Chapter 113 - Chapter 113 – Wind of Change

The Luminous Stadium was a colossal architectural relic of Nexus Prime. Centuries ago, the massive arena had been built directly on the surface, directly beneath the open sky.

But as the population exploded and the Accord authorized endless urban expansion, new city layers were built directly over the old ones. Decades of unyielding vertical growth eventually swallowed the stadium entirely.

Now, the Luminous Stadium sat entombed on the 3rd floor down, a sprawling, artificial cavern capable of holding just under a million people.

Deep inside the heavily secured green room, away from the deafening roar of the gathering crowd, Percival sat alone. He was quietly twiddling his silver mask between his fingers.

In truth, a profound, suffocating hesitation was weighing heavily on his heart.

Nexus Prime was his home. He was born here. He was raised in the cramped, grimy lower sectors. He had experienced his happiest, most innocent moments running through the neon-lit alleyways. But it was also the epicenter of his deepest trauma.

This was the exact place where his mother had callously walked out the door and never returned. It was the place where, at only eight years old, he had been violently thrust into adulthood, forced to figure out how to raise a toddler Lyra and a baby Marcus all by himself.

But strangely, ever since he had bought the farm and moved his family to the pristine, sunlit fields of Planet Friton, all he had dreamt about were the good parts of Nexus Prime. He found himself genuinely missing the damp, sunless halls, the smell of ozone, and the massive, canyon-like openings in the sector floors where you could look down and see the glowing, infinite layers of the city below.

He closed his eyes. All of this chaos, this entire planetary standoff, had started with a single, horrifying spark. It all traced back to that fateful evening when a random Zynar man was casually shot in the head by a Legionnaire while eating a bowl of noodles. Dorian had been right there, shielding Lyra and Marcus from it.

That one brutal execution had ignited the underlying unrest. And today, with the leaked files of Jakor's torture, that unrest had mutated into a full-blown demonstration.

Dorian bowed his head, letting out a long, heavy sigh.

Originally, he had drafted a fierce, aggressive setlist for tonight. He had planned to sing a roaring, defiant rallying cry to spark even more passion within the oppressed people of Nexus Prime. He wanted to give them an anthem to march to.

But Dorian's intellect was too sharp to ignore the grim geopolitical reality. Nexus Prime was a mere industrial hub in the Mid-Rim. Its economy relied entirely on importing goods and an external workforce. They produced tech, not food. If the people did something truly reckless tonight, and the Accord responded by deploying a naval barricade around the system... millions would starve in weeks.

If he pushed them too far, he wouldn't be saving his home. He would be turning Nexus Prime into a multi-layered coffin.

Knock, knock.

The green room door hissed open, and Ratik stepped inside, a datapad glowing in her hand. The ambient roar of the nearly one million attendees echoed into the room before the door slid shut again.

"The crowd is at absolute maximum capacity," Ratik said, her eyes studying his slumped posture. "Are you ready?"

Dorian took a deep breath. The hesitation vanished, replaced by a cold, calculated resolve. He lifted the silver mask and securely donned it over his face, letting the cool metal ground him.

He stood up and looked at his manager.

"Ratik," Percival said smoothly. "I need you to pull a massive favor from the Planetary Governor for me."

Ratik blinked, her datapad lowering slightly. "What?..."

…

For the first two hours, the concert went incredibly smoothly. The attendees inside the Luminous Stadium were entirely captivated by the Star Maker's performance.

Yet, standing in the shadows of the backstage wings, Raja noticed something highly concerning. Ratik's hands were visibly shaking as she gripped her datapad.

The PR manager frowned, leaning closer to her. He had been with the team during the Mord Tida concert, the absolute jankiest, most dangerous venue he had ever witnessed. Back in that dirt pit, when the main generators had completely died and plunged half a million volatile miners into total darkness, Ratik hadn't looked even a fraction this nervous.

"Ratik," Raja whispered over the roaring bass of the stadium. "Are there any active variables to this show that I don't know about?"

Ratik slowly turned her head to look at him. Her expression was pale and incredibly tight.

"Let's just say," Ratik murmured, her voice trembling slightly, "there is a very specific reason I currently have our pilot sitting on active standby in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon with the thrusters pre-warmed."

Raja's eyes widened in sheer horror. 'A getaway ship?' His mind raced. Was the Composer actually going to do something reckless? In the short time Raja had known and managed him, Dorian had never done anything genuinely reckless. Cheeky? Yes. Spontaneous? Absolutely. But not dangerously reckless. A pre-warmed exfil ship meant they were anticipating a high-stakes threat.

"Do you need me to call in the rest of the private security detail?" Raja asked urgently, reaching for his comms earpiece.

Ratik shot him a terrifying glare, looking at him as if he were completely crazy. If he alerted the standard security, they might try to pull the plug on the show. She let out a highly stressed sigh and firmly pushed his hand away from his earpiece.

"No," Ratik ordered. "Just... be ready for absolutely anything."

Out on the stage, the main setlist had finally reached its end.

Dorian walked over to the edge of the stage and sat down, letting his legs dangle over the massive drop as he used a towel to dab the heavy sweat from his neck.

Hovering completely invisible to the screaming crowd around him were two ethereal projections.

On his left floated Aphrodite. On his right hovered the Goddess of the Hunt, Artemis.

Dorian took a deep breath, focusing his mind. From his Mnemonic Echo, he felt the divine resonance of their respective Boons washing over him. From Aphrodite, he drew the aura of Charm, the magnetic, intoxicating presence needed to absolutely sway a crowd. From Artemis, he drew the deadly precision of a Critical Hit, the hyper-focused clarity needed to strike at the absolute core of his target.

For what he was about to do, he needed all the buffs he could possibly get.

Artemis crossed her spectral arms, looking out at the deafening, flashing sea of fans. "Is this the so-called 'concert' you talk so much about, Aphrodite?" the Huntress asked, her tone laced with skeptical curiosity.

Aphrodite smiled, casually twirling a lock of her hair. "Yes... though I must admit, this particular one has a rather slight, grim tension in the air compared to the others."

Artemis scoffed lightly. "Humph. You say that as if you have been present at every single one."

Aphrodite giggled. She floated closer, gently resting her ethereal chin on Dorian's shoulder. "Oh, but I have. Isn't that right, my sweet Creator?"

Artemis simply rolled her eyes and let out another "Humph." Dorian smiled softly beneath his mask. The divine banter successfully took the edge off his anxiety. He stood up, tossing the towel aside, and grabbed his microphone off the stand.

"HELLOOO NEXUS!!!" Percival's voice boomed like thunder across the stadium.

Nearly a million hometown fans roared back, the sheer volume shaking the reinforced acoustic panels of the cavernous arena.

While the crowd cheered, a rapid flurry of movement occurred behind him. Several stagehands rushed out, quickly dragging a full acoustic drumkit into the center of the stage. A few members from the Proximata Orchestra pit, specifically the bass player and the rhythm guitarists unplugged from their classical stations and jogged up the ramps to join Percival on the main platform.

A stagehand quickly approached Dorian, handing him a sleek, jet-black electric guitar. Dorian strapped it over his shoulder, plugging the heavy audio jack into the base. He looked back at his makeshift band and gave them a sharp, authoritative nod. They were ready.

Percival turned back to the crowd. "Tonight, I want to do something very, very special for Nexus Prime."

A small, high-fidelity orbital camera detached from the ceiling array and floated down, hovering directly in front of the Composer's masked face.

Dorian subtly glanced toward the left stage wing and gave Ratik a firm thumbs-up.

In the shadows, Ratik's hands shook one final time before she steeled her nerves. She tapped the master override sequence on her holo-wrist.

"Broadcast it," she ordered the tech team.

At that exact second, a digital hijacking of unprecedented scale occurred across the entire planetary network.

Countless public screens all across Nexus Prime violently flickered.

Deep in the lowest, sunless floors of the city, a grimy, noisy cantina suddenly went dead silent as the local sports broadcast was instantly replaced by the high-definition feed of the masked Composer.

Up on the pristine surface levels, a squad of fully armed Accord Legionnaires stopped mid-patrol, the glowing reflection of the concert broadcast reflecting perfectly across their sterile white helmet visors.

Above the massive, gaping abyss of the Zelva Canyon, the colossal corporate holo-billboards glitched and immediately switched to the feed. Up in the luxurious, manicured pathways of Norva Park, wealthy pedestrians froze in their tracks as giant holographic screens materialized in the sky.

Every single public monitor and every unencrypted network channel on the planet had just been forcibly tuned in to Composer Percival's live broadcast.

The entire world was watching.

…

The stadium was completely silent, waiting with bated breath.

[Scorpions - Wind of Change]

Standing in the center of the stage, Percival gently plucked the strings of his electric guitar, playing a series of incredibly clean, echoing arpeggios.

And then, he stepped up to the microphone and simply began to whistle.

Fweee-fweee-fweee-fwooo...

The hauntingly beautiful, incredibly simple whistle melody echoed out through the Luminous Stadium and across the millions of hijacked holographic screens all over the planet. It sounded exactly like a solitary citizen, hands in their pockets, wandering alone down a quiet, neon-lit street in the dead of night.

Percival closed his eyes and leaned into the mic, his voice dropping into a warm, grounded register.

"I follow the Zelva...Up to Norva Park..."

Across the planet, millions of people physically gasped.

Deep in the treacherous, smog-filled Zelva Canyon, the protesters who had been holding hands slowly walked over to the reinforced metal railings. They looked up and down the massive, vertical drop, making eye contact with strangers across the different floor levels, all of them completely mesmerized.

Up on the surface in Norva Park, the wealthy elites and the marching citizens suddenly realized what was happening. The Composer was singing a completely new, original song. And the sheer geographic precision of the lyrics meant this song was written specifically for them. It was an anthem for Nexus Prime.

A wave of people immediately raised their datapads and comm-orbs, desperately recording the giant holographic projections in the sky.

"Listening to the wind of change..."

The lyric painted an act of passive, peaceful observation. Percival was telling them to stop, listen, and simply feel the atmospheric shift of their own world.

"An Ogust summer night...Soldiers passing by..."

It was Ogust, the current month in the Nexus calendar system.

Down in the commercial district, a heavily armed Accord Legionnaire, his hands gripped tightly around his lethal photon rifle, froze. Hearing the gentle lyric, the soldier slowly turned his head to look at his squadmate.

The tension in their shoulders subtly dropped. With a single verse, Percival had completely recontextualized their presence. He framed them simply as soldiers "passing by" on a warm summer night.

"Listening to the wind of change..."

Ever so slowly, the rest of the makeshift band began to weave into the track. The drummer introduced a soft, steady kick drum and rhythmic rim-clicks that perfectly matched a walking heartbeat. The string section in the pit added subtle, hauntingly beautiful vocal harmonies that lifted the clean guitar arpeggios.

Percival stepped back from the mic, playing his guitar and whistling the lonely, wandering melody once again. The simple tune disarmed the anger of an entire planet.

When he returned to the mic, the lyrics shifted.

"The world is closing in..."

It was a phrase of sheer panic and claustrophobia, an exact vocalization of how it felt to live trapped beneath many layers of durasteel and corporate oppression.

"Did you ever think...That we could be so close, like brothers?"

Percival addressed the local citizens and the military directly. He marveled at the sudden, shocking realization that the people they had all been trained to fear; the lower-class workers, the upper-class elites, the faceless Legionnaires were actually just people.

In a crowded transit plaza, a family of four, holding each other tightly, slowly turned their heads. Standing just a few feet away from them was a towering Legion trooper.

But the trooper wasn't aiming his weapon. He had his photon rifle lowered, his masked head tilted up toward the holographic screen, completely captivated by the song.

The father of the family and the soldier exchanged a quiet, profound glance. They were sharing the exact same music.

"The future's in the air...I can feel it everywhere..."

The gentle breeze from the first verse was accelerating. Percival recognized that the entire planet was currently standing on the razor's edge of a new historical epoch.

"Blowing with the wind of change..."

Inside the Luminous Stadium, the near-million students, workers, and elites didn't need to be told what to do. One by one, they began to raise their arms. They activated the luminescent lights on their comm-wristbands, slowly swaying them back and forth to the steady beat of the kick drum.

Looking out from the stage, the cavernous, sunless stadium completely transformed. It had become a breathtaking, unified sea of glowing stars.

Suddenly, the full rhythm section engaged. The heavy bass and the crashing snare drum kicked in simultaneously, instantly propelling the song from a quiet, atmospheric ballad into an active, driving rock track.

Percival gripped the microphone, his voice soaring upward as the narrative violently pivoted from the grounded reality of the streets to a sweeping, aspirational plea.

"Take me to the magic of the moment...On a glory night..."

The focus of the song shifted entirely away from the present conflict and aimed directly at the next generation.

"Where the children of tomorrow dream away...In the wind of change."

Deep down in the lowest, poorest floors of Nexus Prime, the music was already taking root. Running down a damp, metallic corridor, a gaggle of little street children were currently marching in sync.

Leading them was a young boy with a cheap, second-hand electric guitar slung over his shoulder, proudly imitating Percival's exact stage posture as his friends cheered him on.

Back on stage, the tempo held its steady, marching pace. Percival began the second verse.

"Walking down the street...Distant memories...Are buried in the past forever."

The lyrical speaker had resumed their walk, but their internal landscape had permanently altered. The threshold had finally been crossed. The old, oppressive world of quiet suffering was officially dead and buried.

"I follow the Zelva...Up to Norva Park...Listening to the wind of change."

What had begun as a cautious, apprehensive observation in the first verse was now a comfortable, defiant reality. The wind was still blowing, and the change happening across the planet was undeniably real.

The heavy drums built up to the chorus once again.

"Take me to the magic of the moment...On a glory night..."

Standing in the middle of the surface-level plaza, surrounded by peaceful protesters, one of the elite Accord Legionnaires slowly lowered her photon rifle. Her hands trembled slightly as she reached up to the seals of her pristine white helmet. With a sharp hiss of pressurized air, she pulled the helmet off.

The faceless, terrifying soldier was suddenly just a young woman. The warm Ogust wind blew her sweat-dampened hair across her face as she looked up at the holographic projection of the Composer, her eyes glistening with unshed tears.

"Where the children of tomorrow dream away...In the wind of change..."

The crowd of voices singing along across the planet was growing exponentially larger, solidifying the track into an absolute anthem of unity.

High up in the luxurious official residence of the Planetary Governor of Nexus Prime, Governor Parvis Nox stood alone in his grand office.

He was staring out his floor-to-ceiling windows at the massive holographic screens illuminating his city. The aging politician looked at the masked Composer with deeply hopeful eyes.

This young man had just thrown him an absolute lifeline. The peaceful, unified passion radiating from the streets below was exactly the leverage Parvis needed for his brutal battle in tomorrow's Mid-Rim Senate meeting.

Down on the stage, Percival pushed his vocals to the absolute limit.

"The wind of change...Blows straight into the face of time!"

The gentle breeze of the song officially escalated.

"Like a stormwind that will ring the freedom bell...For peace of mind!"

Percival recognized the sheer, unstoppable force of a peaceful revolution. He was weaponizing the culture of an entire world. And then, he delivered the most devastatingly localized lyric of the entire night.

"Let your Naralaika sing...What my guitar wants to say!"

Down in the crowded Zelva Canyon protest, an old man tightly holding his traditional, multi-stringed Naralaika suddenly felt a gentle tap on his shoulder.

The old man turned around. Standing right behind him was a local teenage boy, a cheap, battered electric guitar secured on a sling across his chest. The boy offered the old man a wide, bright smile, plugging his instrument into a portable amp. The old ways and the new ways, standing side by side.

In the Luminous Stadium, the track hit maximum volume. The Proximata Orchestra layered massive, stacked vocal harmonies over the heavy rock instrumentation.

Percival ripped the microphone off the stand and marched directly to the front edge of the stage. He planted his boots wide, gripped his jet-black electric guitar, and struck the strings with everything he had.

WREEEEEEEE!!

A massive, screaming, deeply emotional electric guitar solo tore through the cavernous stadium. He bent the high notes, making the instrument weep and roar in perfect synchronization with the passionate cries of his home world.

Across all the layered floors, across the canyons and the parks, Nexus Prime physically felt it. In the span of a single song, Composer Percival had ignited a spark of hope that had never been lit before.

Sweat flew from his hair as Dorian thrashed his head, his fingers dancing across the fretboard of the electric guitar. He poured every single ounce of his exhaustion, his love, and his hope into the strings.

As the blazing solo finally reached its soaring conclusion, the heavy distortion faded. Percival smoothly swung the guitar behind his back and grabbed the microphone stand with both hands. He leaned in, panting heavily, and sang the final, triumphant chorus.

"Take me to the magic of the moment...On a glory night..."

Inside the stadium and out on the streets, the massive crowd sang in absolute unison, their voices forming a planetary choir that drowned out the heavy drums.

Then, Percival delivered the crucial, subtle lyrical change that completely anchored the song.

"Where the children of tomorrow share their dreams...With you and me!"

The children were no longer just dreaming "away" in isolation. They were sharing their dreams with the present generation. With that single, deliberate change of words, the generational gap was beautifully, permanently bridged.

The heavy rock instrumentation slowly began to decrescendo. The crashing drums faded into a soft heartbeat. The grand piano and the weeping cello took a gentle step back.

Percival brought the song full circle. His fingers returned to the clean, echoing guitar arpeggios, and he closed his eyes, delivering the haunting, solitary whistle one last time.

Fweee-fweee-fweee-fwooo...

As the final note faded into the ether, Ratik tapped her holo-wrist. The planetary broadcast instantly cut off. All across Nexus Prime, the giant holographic screens returned to their normal corporate advertisements, and the local channels reverted to their scheduled programming.

But the message aggressively lingered in the air.

…

Inside the Luminous Stadium, the near-million attendees let out a deafening, earth-shattering roar of pure, unfiltered joy. People were weeping, hugging each other, and throwing their hands toward the ceiling.

Percival unhooked his guitar and handed it to a stagehand. He turned back toward the pit and enthusiastically gestured for the Proximata Orchestra and the backing choir to come up to the main stage.

The elite classical musicians beamed with pride. They abandoned their instruments and walked up the ramps, forming a massive, horizontal line across the stage. Percival stood right in the center, locking hands with the conductor and the lead violinist.

Together, they took a deep, deeply respectful bow.

Percival grabbed his microphone one last time. He looked out at the glowing sea of his hometown, his eyes shining brightly beneath the dark lenses of his silver mask.

"This is the official end of our tour!" Percival shouted, his voice cracking slightly with emotion. "Thank you all so much for everything! I LOVE YOU, NEXUS!!!"

Another colossal, teary wave of roaring cheers washed over the stage, cementing Composer Percival as a true legend.

…

An hour later, deep within the heavily fortified local BSO command center, Senior Lieutenant Verza Zal slammed her fist violently onto the durasteel tactical table.

"Fuck!" Verza hissed, her single visible eye burning with a terrifying, uncharacteristic rage.

She had just arrived on the planet an hour ago, fully prepared to execute her flawless, meticulously calculated social engineering strategy. Her plan had been brilliant: she was going to deploy undercover agent provocateurs into the peaceful protests to incite sudden, brutal violence.

She needed the synchronized Accord media to capture the chaos, blow the "insurgency" completely out of proportion, and let the real citizens blindly follow the riot like a snowball rolling down a mountain.

Once the planet was tearing itself apart, the Legion could step in as the saviors, permanently subjugating Nexus Prime under martial law.

But her brilliant strategy was completely useless now.

Across the command center monitors. The viral footage of the concert, the breathtaking snapshots of lower-class citizens holding hands, and the shocking videos of Legionnaires taking off their helmets in Norva Park had already spread across the entire galactic net. The narrative was utterly dominated by peace, unity, and the Star Maker's anthem.

There was absolutely nothing she or Accord Intelligence could do to spin this in their direction. The cultural momentum was simply too massive.

Verza closed her eyes and took a deep, shuddering breath. She forcefully buried her frustration. She smoothed down her immaculate grey uniform jacket, and instantly, a terrifying, emotionless mask of pure calm fell over her body.

Several minutes later, a secure holo-call connected on the center console. The towering projection of Major Kalzor Darvex materialized.

Verza offered a crisp salute. "Major. Unfortunately, the current socio-cultural shift has been severely miscalculated. My strategies cannot thrive in the new Nexus environment."

Kalzor let out a heavy, synthetic sigh, his silver eyes cold. "I have seen the broadcasts. Then stand down, Supervisor. Redeploy the Nexon Security forces to their original posts immediately, and pull our Legionnaires out of the public sectors."

"What about the Mid-Rim Senate meeting tomorrow, sir?" Verza asked neutrally.

"Those senators are highly unlikely to punish Nexon Security now that the public is entirely on their side," Kalzor stated, dismissing the issue with a wave of his chrome hand. "The Bureau will have to take the brunt of the political force this time. It is nothing but a minor setback to worry about."

But Verza didn't see it as just a minor setback. She saw this as her own personal, agonizing loss. Her perfectionist soul recoiled at the failure. She would follow her orders. She would learn, and she would let it go.

But she would never forget.

"Yes, sir," Verza replied flawlessly.

"Good luck, Verza," Kalzor said before the transmission cut out.

Verza stood alone in the quiet command center, her eye narrowing dangerously at the frozen image of Composer Percival on one of the news monitors.

"Obey and prosper," she whispered into the dark.
