Chapter 14 - Chapter 12: The Hunter is Hunted

Part 1

I stood atop the cliff staring onto the beautiful night sky. The bright glowing chasm was ruining the view

Gates of Heaven...

I heave a sigh... What might have attracted their attraction so early on? This is bad... Really bad. I'm not yet ready for the fight. If it's Michael or even Gabriel...I'd lose almost immediately...so would Sanroku.

A little away from me the vampires are clashing. I won't interfere... it's their battle. If I babysit everyone in my army...I'd be raising a bunch of wimpy kids...that's the last thing any leader would want.

A few moments ago I felt Kyoraku and Asim's presence fade. Kyoraku's could still be felt after concentrating a little. But Asim's...it had disappeared without a trace. Dammit!

I stand up as I notice two figures appearing from the chasm. They both release an attack on the ground below them. Just after that I notice a red chain which grasps around one of them and he is yanked with a great force in the opposite direction

I smirk as I recognize the red chain- Sanroku... Well that reduces the trouble...reminds me of the old days a little..when we used to divide the task...until that son of a b*tch killed me. I'd never forgive him for that. In the next war... he'll pay for it.

I create a magic circle beside me... a long rope shoots out of it and pierces into the leg of the new arrival. I yank him towards myself.

As he crashes on the ground in front of me with a loud thud I recognize him almost immediately... I had battled him once...no wait... I had killed him once.. standing before me is – The Hunter

Part 2

Hunter...he still looked the same as before...not that I got to see his real face the last time. I only recognize him by the imperial gold knight armor and the celestial bronze longsword.

I heave a sigh of relief... at least it isn't Michael...or some angel of the higher order. But Hunter...he would still be a formidable opponent. If I end up using too much power, I might risk revealing my identity to the Heaven. For now, I plan on maintaining a low profile as long as possible.

I mutter under my breath, "Hell! This is gonna be a pain in the ass!"

The gaps in his armour spew out dark fumes. If you didn't know him better, you'd think he was one of us...the same way people think that I am one of the angels.

"Hunter..." I mumble in a low voice. "It's been a long time since we last met." My gaze falls to the huge gash in his breastplate. "I bet you still haven't forgotten the consequences you had to suffer...after our last duel."

A mechanical, almost spectral voice replies, "I live with it every day, Lucalus. The humiliation...the memory that I was defeated by the likes of you...By someone so vile...it haunts me... I can't endure it anymore. Fortunately...my Lord gave me the opportunity to face you again...To restore my dignity and destroy you, you filthy devil."

I roll my eyes. "You Heaven guys are soooooo....boring. Could you stop being so formal and dramatic?"

" It would be a disgrace to converse informally with someone so base. Forgive me, but I would rather commit suicide."

"Don't push it. Even at this stage...I'm a thousand times stronger than you. And about committing suicide...you need not go through all that trouble...I'll kill you myself!"

Hunter stomps his foot on the ground. A loud and sharp sound of metal clanging floods the air around us. The ground itself starts shivering. The air grows thicker as he swings his sword in a wide arc and plunges it into the ground. It starts expanding until it becomes twice its original size. He lets out a guttural scream, and his armor radiates a blinding bright light. I turn my head to avoid direct exposure. He is getting into his primal form...staring at the transformation is considered dangerous for devils. Earlier, I used to stare at this shit without even a hint of fear...but now I don't wanna take any risks... might just follow the books.

As the light slightly reduces in intensity, I look back at the mammoth standing before me. He has grown twice his original size. A pair of golden wings has emerged from his shoulders. As he uproots his sword from the ground, tremors spread all across the field.

I had expected all this. Knowing the outcome of our last battle, I was pretty certain that this guy would transform into his Primal Knight state almost instantly...not that it's going to help him in any way.

Okay...since this guy has put on so much show... i'd might as well make it worth it...give him some honour.

'Knock! Knock! Chronulus! Rise and Shine!'

' OWW! Lucalus, don't tell me you can't handle this f**cker on your own."

'I could but i don't wanna dishonour him,ya know?'

'Since when did you develop such sportsmanship?'

'Well since it's the second time i will be defeating him...i wanted to be a bit more merciful."

"I hate humans. They changed my Lucalus. You've grown awfully humane. That's the last thing we—"

"Using my own powers might attract attention from the Gods."

"Reasonable."

A golden aura starts developing around me, and a dark black wing shoots out of my left shoulder. My irises reshape themselves. My golden right iris now looks like a clock...the three hands ticking. The left silver one is shaped like a moon clock.

(Moon clock- A special type of clock used by Hell's residents. It is shaped like an inverted teardrop. On the night, when the Blood Moon reigns over sky, it absorbs a part of the moonlight and turns into 'Tear of the Moon' - which basically is a liquid essence of the moonlight. When the'Tear' falls, it indicates that a century has passed.)

i know that the longer i drag it for...the more risks i take . I plan on ending this once and for all...I won't be risking an identity rveal as the power residue will be Chronulus's...Guess i can go all out on this one.

"i am sorry, Hunter, but i need to end this shit quickly...Hope you can understand."

Today is the Blood moon...an auspicious day...the Moon Clock will be refilled today. Baros said it's a lucky day for Eliz Fernis. He has just recently joined my faction in preparation for the war against Sanroku...If he knew me from 3000 years ago... he would have known...that it is a lucky day for one more person, namely me: Lucalus Jikano, the Time Devil.

I raise my left arm to the moon and with a loud voice i chant. "Temporal Reign:The Weeping Moon."

An inverted teardrop with a silver filled till its three-fourths of the teardrop's height appears looms over Hunter like a hangman's noose.

Hunter stares at it with a look of confusion on his face. He tries to plunge at me but he cannot... I've already entrapped him in my time barrier..just like i had done with Max..just this time the barrier is stronger.

"Let me explain how this works in case you are wondering. The level of the silver liquid here... represents the time until which you will live...in centuries. Now imagine what will happen if the entire teardrop empties at once." His armour starts trembling with fear. " Your death has already been written on my hands. The teardrop being three-fourths filled represents that you will die when you have completed seventy-five percent of the purpose for which you were bormnm. Hunter...the Executor of the Vampires...you have slayed miliions on them...for which you have my appreciation. Yet they live on. Which means that your task is incomplete." I pause for a moment. The dark fumes start disappearing slowly to reveal the face of a fair skin beneath. His helmet falls off...showing the face of a young man...with bronze-coloured shining eyes and long white hair reaching his shoulders. He looks utterly breath taking. i close my eyes to stop my heart from pounding. Maybe Chronulus is correct. I've grown too humane. I continue with a heavy voice,"Now to execute magic of this level...one would require a tremendous amount of energy. But as you may know, I belong to the Jikano clan, which specializes in temporal control. And inside me...i have Chronulus, who is the Devil King's Time incarnation... another reason why i can casually use such magic. Goodbye Hunter! It was nice meeting you."

I clasph my fist and the teardrop shatters into pieces. The silver liquid splashes all over Hunter and finally drowns him. I turn my eyes away as his body slowly melts into the liquid.
