Chapter 260 - A Great Battle That Almost Destroyed Asgard?

Thor, outside the screen, nodded seriously upon hearing this. Becoming a king had never been his goal; he would have preferred someone else to rule Asgard so he could be a general, charging into battle and enjoying his life.

If Loki had been up to the task, he wouldn't have minded at all.

However, under no circumstances could this position be given to this suddenly-appearing sister. She wouldn't be a good ruler, unable to bring happiness to the people. In fact, she might only want to turn all of Asgard into a realm of death.

At this moment, as a son of Odin, he had to stand up and defend all of Asgard. This was his responsibility, whether he liked it or not, whether it might lead to his death.

Hela manifested her helmet, ready for battle, and declared, "That throne is mine!"

Thor stood up from the throne and quickly walked down, saying, "Father once told me that a wise king never provokes war!"

Hela countered, "But he must always be ready to fight!"

The two sides had fundamentally different ideologies, so of course, they couldn't come to an agreement, and a battle erupted in an instant.

At this moment, the camera didn't continue to show the two sides fighting, but instead shifted to the outside. On the Bifrost, countless Asgardians were fleeing like refugees, evacuating from the Bifrost.

But they couldn't escape at all. A giant beast, with a body like a small mountain, directly blocked one end of the Bifrost, blocking everyone's escape route.

Perhaps no one had ever imagined that this paradise, which had been at peace for an unknown number of years, would face war.

"The giant wolf, Fenris Wolf?" Agent Hill said, she wasn't quite sure, but the body size did seem to match.

Then everyone looked at Thor, and Thor also looked innocent, saying, "I don't know either, I've never seen the mythical giant wolf Fenris Wolf!"

He had later looked up this information, but he didn't know why the humans of Earth knew so many things that even he didn't know.

For example, this giant wolf Fenris Wolf.

But he really hadn't seen it before.

Apparently, this giant wolf, Fenris Wolf, was mostly on his sister's side.

"I see, Thor is stalling for time!"

Captain Rogers immediately understood, putting together the previous scenes.

"Combining this with Hela crushing Thor's hammer, plus her using the Bifrost to return to Asgard, it's likely that the people of Asgard don't want to submit to this tyrannical woman's rule, and want to escape Asgard!" Captain Rogers analyzed.

Everyone nodded, this was the most likely scenario.

They just didn't know how Thor, who had been thrown out of the Bifrost, had returned to Asgard.

But they had generally figured it out.

"So Thor is using his life to buy time, allowing his people to escape!" Captain Rogers looked at Thor, clearly impressed by Thor's selfless act.

He'd never held much respect for nobles.

While some nobles possessed a sense of honor, he'd seen the rotten underbelly of most of them when he led troops through Europe.

If the debauchery of the vast majority of nobles were exposed, it would probably disgust the public for a hundred years.

Even though Thor was a god, he was still essentially a prince. Seeing him willing to sacrifice himself for his people stirred some respect within him.

Seeing the admiring gazes of the others, Thor wanted to feel proud, but he realized they were in extreme danger. He quickly said, "As a prince of Asgard, no, as the King of Asgard, protecting my people is what I should do!"

Based on the length of his hair, he guessed this should be the timeline after his father's death. At that time, even though he had just lost his father, he didn't even have time to grieve, instead having to use all his strength to protect his people.

What saddened him even more was that, according to Lin Feng, he had protected almost nothing.

Asgard was not saved, and most of its people were dead.

He had completely failed his father's expectations.

And at this moment, in the image, just as everyone was about to suffer, a spaceship flew over, directly using its firepower to block the Fenris Wolf, but it could only hold it back temporarily.

What surprised everyone was that they saw Bruce Banner in the spaceship.

After a moment's thought, everyone realized that Thor must have used some method in the arena to awaken Bruce Banner and then brought him to Asgard.

This also corresponded to Bruce Banner later being directly sent to Earth via the Bifrost.

"I see," Bruce Banner said, a little puzzled. "It should be that Thor found a way to wake me up and brought me to Asgard. Later, Asgard experienced Ragnarok, and I was teleported to Earth. But there's still one point I don't understand: why was I in that arena?"

"Is it possible that you were captured?" Tony Stark paused and then said, "What's the name of the owner of that arena? Grandmaster? Is it possible that he's a very powerful cosmic force, collecting powerful warriors everywhere to fight in the arena to entertain himself and his guests? You know, look at the Colosseum in ancient Rome, it's pretty much the same. Maybe the Hulk's reputation has already spread throughout the universe?"

Hearing this explanation, Bruce Banner thought it made a lot of sense, and it was very likely.

However, he only felt his hair stand on end. If that were the case, wouldn't he be captured by the Grandmaster again in the future?

And it sounded like he'd be forced to become the Hulk for many years.

This wasn't good news!

In the picture, besides the Fenris Wolf, there was also a skeleton Executioner's Army, and the leader was Skurge. Everyone had seen them before in the scene where Thor defeated the fire giant Surtur.

Because of his negligence, Thor was almost killed.

"This damn guy, he was derelict in his duties. I'm already being lenient by not punishing him, and yet he dares to betray Asgard!" Thor was furious.

He was already very angry about Skurge's betrayal, but he was also curious about where Heimdall, the original guardian, was.

"Are there only this many Asgardians?"

Tony Stark complained, "It doesn't look like there are even ten thousand people. Is this Asgard?"

Everyone thought it was absurd. The Asgardians, who intimidated the universe, were a dominant civilization famous throughout the cosmos, yet they only had so few people.

Well, maybe many had been slaughtered, but it was still too few.

One could roughly gauge it by looking at how many people were on Earth – the population was just too small.

"Actually, the Asgardians weren't always this few. But later, a great war occurred. My father, Odin, fought my sister, Hela. Ultimately, it led to the loss of our elite forces, and the population has never recovered!" Thor revealed this astonishing past.

Originally, this was an Asgardian secret that shouldn't be leaked, lest anyone see how weak Asgard was. But these weren't outsiders; they would need to interact with them in the future.

Everyone couldn't help but frown. They had seen the clash between Odin and Hela, although it was on another timeline. Odin had easily stripped Hela of her divine power and banished her to Earth.

But, they thought, the situation on the sacred timeline must have been different.

Odin hadn't suppressed Hela so easily, and the conflict involved not only a battle between the two, but also their respective armies.

Odin must have paid a huge price to suppress Hela.

And for a smart person like Tony Stark, this undoubtedly explained a lot of things. For example, why there were so few people in Asgard, and why most of them looked like ordinary people, even to the point of being invaded by the Dark Elves and hesitating to fight even Frost Giants.

Such a reputation was that of a prominent, universe-level power, but the true essence of Asgard had been wiped out in that battle.

That's why Odin stopped conquering the Nine Realms and was content with a state similar to feudalism. He didn't even care much about Earth, which was supposedly his territory.

Now that he thought about it, did Odin clash with Hela because he was tired of fighting and wanted to enjoy peace? Or was it the other way around: he had a major conflict with Hela first, suffered heavy losses in suppressing her, and finally had to take the route of peace, eventually forming a situation where the Nine Realms nominally belonged to Asgard, but were actually independent?

It was hard to say!

And these people were not the same as the powerful civilization of Captain Rogers that he and the others had recently heard about from the Asgardian envoy. There were so many old, weak, sick, and disabled people, with no combat power.

This level of combat power might not even be able to defeat Earth's civilization.

Now, all the mysteries were solved, because there had been a fierce conflict before, not just limited to the conflict between Odin and Hela, but a major battle between two extremely terrifying elite forces, comrades who had once fought side by side.

The real elites were mostly dead, and the current Asgard was just scaring people with a tiger skin. The only thing they could really rely on was Odin's terrifying reputation as a Skyfather.

"Does this Skyfather-level expert really have that much influence?" Tony Stark couldn't help but ask.

Apparently, the reason Asgard could still stand was mainly due to Odin, the Skyfather-level big shot.

You could only say that the magical civilization and the technological civilization were simply not on the same level.
