The room they had given Silas at the IRS facility was small and plain. There was a metal table, two chairs, a wall-mounted camera, and a phone fixed beside the door. Nothing in it suggested that the man sitting there had once been able to move money across countries with a few instructions.
Silas had been there long enough to understand the routine. People came in, asked questions, took notes, and left. Sometimes they returned with another question because the first answer had created two more problems. He had stopped trying to guess what they knew. It was wasting energy.
His thoughts kept returning to the report his men had given him earlier.
They had found the courier.
The man had told them almost exactly what the other evidence suggested. He had been paid to collect a package, take it to a location, and leave it there. He did not know who had prepared it. He did not know who was supposed to receive it. He had never opened it.
