"Young Master, I have the clothes ready." Konosuke Jii picked up Kaito in the car, preparing to head toward Beika Town.
Today was the day Young Master Kaito had agreed to impersonate Shinichi Kudo.
"Good grief. That guy really knows how to crack the whip," Kaito grumbled from the back seat, glancing in the mirror to express his dissatisfaction with Tsuneo.
It's a perfectly good weekend, so why do I have to style my hair in this weird shape...
The person in the mirror—whether in features, skin tone, or hairstyle—showed almost no flaws. Even Kaito, who had impersonated Shinichi Kudo before, felt a momentary sense of disorientation.
"Pop, do you remember what that 'Knight' said last time?" Kaito twitched the corner of his mouth speechlessly at the face in the mirror.
He really knows how to spout nonsense...
After interacting with him for a while, that so-called Dark Knight had completely lost his air of mystery. The supposed heroism was entirely overshadowed by the man's bizarre train of thought.
"Ahem, he said..." Jii, known affectionately as 'Pop', glanced at the Young Master's face through the rearview mirror, then looked at the newspaper on the seat featuring Shinichi Kudo's face.
"He said that perhaps neither Shinichi Kudo nor Kaito Kuroba actually exists. That they are both just roles played by a single person suffering from schizophrenia..."
Even Jii, elderly and experienced as he was, couldn't help but feel that Tsuneo's perspective was simply too explosive.
By day, a revered and famous detective; by night, a phantom thief under the spotlight. That kind of identity switch would certainly be thrilling...
"Please. I've appeared at the same time as that famous detective before. How could that theory possibly hold water?" Kaito didn't shy away, immediately beginning to change his clothes inside the speeding car.
The entire disguise process was smooth and flowing, completed fully within five seconds.
"Young Master, we have arrived. This is the address of my old friend, the Professor." Jii parked the car in front of Professor Agasa's house. He looked at the two residences flanking them; the Kudo house was directly opposite.
"Oh, I've already spotted the target I'm supposed to play!" Kaito pushed the door open and stepped out confidently, looking not far off at a group of brats playing soccer in the yard.
It had to be said, that guy disguised himself well. Mixing in with a group of elementary schoolers, you couldn't spot anything unusual about him at a glance.
"Conan, that big brother is staring at you, isn't he?" Ayumi asked Conan, who was beside her.
I feel like I've seen that face somewhere before???
"Have you forgotten? That's Shinichi-niichan, the one we talk about all the time." Conan revealed a pair of dead-fish eyes.
He looks exactly like me...
"He isn't here to ask the Professor to invent something, is he?" Genta saw the man was accompanied by someone who looked like a butler, and his imagination began to run wild.
He looks like a rich guy.
"No, he seems to be the owner of that 'Ghost House' surnamed Kudo, opposite the Professor's place," Mitsuhiko said, recalling the savior of the Japanese police.
Conan: "..."
Just because nobody lives there doesn't mean it's a Ghost House!
Also, the owner of that Ghost House is me!
"Long time no see!" Kaito waved at Conan, then strutted into Professor Agasa's house with Jii in tow.
Just as the old man and the young man opened the door and walked in, Professor Agasa, wearing his lab coat, walked over with a smile.
"Jii, you made it!"
Everyone had just returned from the campsite not long ago, so the children hadn't gone home yet.
"Agasa, it really is lively in here," Jii said with a smile, nodding to the pair of sisters and Tsuneo inside the room.
It really is enviable to have so many children keeping you company.
"It's better when it's lively!" Professor Agasa laughed heartily, unable to wait to take his old friend to the laboratory to see his new inventions.
"I thought there would be applause upon my entrance..." Kaito watched the two old men walk off, arms draped over each other's shoulders like schoolboys. He sat down on the sofa and spoke speechlessly to Tsuneo, who sat opposite him.
"You three in the room, could you at least give some reaction? Don't just stare at me with those smiles."
"Heh, aren't those gadgets the Professor invents all for your use anyway?" Tsuneo reached out, grabbed the snacks from beside Ai, and ate them happily, completely ignoring her glare.
Kids shouldn't eat too much of this stuff; it impacts development.
Ai rolled her eyes at him, then turned her head, suddenly realizing the face on the opposite sofa was very close, staring right at her.
"You wouldn't happen to be one too, right?" Kaito looked at Ai, asking with a frown.
This elementary schooler also had some strange qualities about her.
Her movements, expressions, plus the scientific journals and fashion magazines spread out in front of her—none of it looked like something an elementary schooler should possess.
"No." Ai simply held up a magazine, blocking his line of sight.
"She's very timid, don't scare her," Tsuneo said. Since he had eaten her snacks, he had to help her out.
"Hmph!" Ai crossed her legs, hugged the magazine, and twisted her head to the side.
Can't be bothered with you people!
Kaito withdrew his gaze, leaned back on the sofa, took the drink Akemi brought over, smiled, and said, "Thank you. This flower is for you!"
As a magician, much like a certain detective, he would try to pull a trick whenever he caught the chance.
Akemi blinked, stunned, as she watched a fresh flower materialize in his hand with a simple clench of his palm.
Seeing such a flawless magic performance up close was indeed astonishing.
"That's nothing, I can do that too!" Tsuneo pulled a deck of poker cards out from under the table.
"I—I'll go wash some fruit for you guys!" Akemi took the flower, blinked rapidly, and immediately turned to head for the kitchen.
"I have work to do as well." Ai hugged the research materials on the table and quickly fled the scene.
Your two magic tricks have been performed a hundred times already. Give it a rest!
"..." Kaito looked at Tsuneo, utterly speechless.
It's all your fault. You killed the vibe.
I haven't even turned into a pigeon yet!
"You two, don't forget the important business." Conan had walked in at some point and was staring at them, unamused.
Especially you, KID!
Right now, you are the high school detective Shinichi Kudo, not a magician.
"Please, I know I'm here to help, but I should have some room for creative freedom, right?" Kaito snapped his fingers. A white dove appeared out of thin air, perched on his shoulder. Its ruby-like eyes looked at the people in the room with remarkable intelligence.
"Can you get me one of those too?" Tsuneo gathered some snack crumbs and held out his hand.
The white dove stood on Kaito's shoulder, turned its head, and groomed its feathers with its beak. It gave him absolutely no face, showing no interest in enjoying the food.
"It's very difficult. You have to pour your everything into it," Kaito said, tapping the dove lightly on the head with his finger.
"You must raise at least a few hundred of them..."
"I don't have that many."
"Spare me one."
"Impossible!"
Conan: "..."
These two are treating me like air...
