Chapter 168 - Chapter 168: Explosive News

When Woj posted that tweet, it was like dropping a nuclear bomb into the ocean. A massive shockwave spread outward from that single post.

"Holy shit!"

A fan lying in bed and scrolling through Twitter froze, his eyes glued to the tweet.

After reading the content and confirming the poster's ID, he jumped straight out of bed.

"Kevin Durant to the Kings?! The league is about to change!"

The same scene unfolded all across the world...

At the Mop headquarters back home, the newsroom operated 24/7 to keep up with breaking stories—and tweets from sports media legends like Woj were their top priority.

Two fresh college grads were on the night shift, eating their freshly bought breakfast.

"What?!"

One of them gaped in disbelief.

"What's with the yelling?"

The other, his mouth stuffed with buns, chewed like a chipmunk. "You've got zero composure. What could possibly be so—"

"What?!"

Both froze on the spot.

A few seconds later, realizing they had just witnessed history, they snapped back to reality at the same time.

"Fake news, right? There's been tons of Durant rumors lately. Probably another fake story."

"Fake my ass! Look properly—Woj! This is Woj's tweet!"

The two huddled together, double-checking every detail before confirming it wasn't some random reporter's clickbait.

"Hurry, hurry! Screenshot it, write the story, get it submitted for review!"

The bun-eating guy frantically barked orders while fumbling with his phone, speaking into the mic with a trembling voice.

"Wake up, everyone! Don't sleep! Check the news! Boss Chen just poached Durant! It's happening—holy crap!"

"What are you shouting about?"

Having quickly finished and submitted the article, the other turned curiously—only to see the bun guy's WeChat screen glowing.

It read: Mop Internal Kings Fan Group. The group was packed.

"You're a fan too?"

"Why wouldn't I be? It's our own team—of course I support them!"

Because of the time difference, it was still early morning back home. Countless people woke up to this historic news.

"Holy crap, the Kings are taking off!"

"They reached the Western Conference Finals last season, and now they've got the Foreman! Boss Chen's dead set on going for the championship!"

"Unreal! They even got Durant! The Kings' roster is stacked beyond belief!"

All across the country, Kings fans went completely wild.

...

Meanwhile, across the ocean in Sacramento.

Ranadivé stared at the news on his phone, so thrilled that he slapped his thigh hard against the couch.

"Daddy, what's got you so excited?"

Anjali, dressed in silk pajamas, curiously walked into the living room.

"I knew keeping Chen Yilun on our side was the right call. Look—he actually brought in Durant."

"Durant?!"

Anjali's delicate brows lifted as she rushed over in two quick strides to see the headline.

"He actually signed Durant!"

Her breathing quickened. "This will be the most glorious moment in Kings franchise history."

As she said that, her cheeks suddenly flushed. "Daddy, if Chen Yilun is that capable, do you think he could sign Curry too?"

Ranadivé's smile froze. He knew his daughter was a die-hard Curry fan.

"Uh… sweetheart, signing Curry's a bit of a stretch. Let's talk about that later, alright?"

...

In Oklahoma City, Chen Yilun had just stepped out of the shower, towel in hand, when someone started pounding on his door.

"What the hell! What's the rush?!"

Grumbling, he walked over and opened it.

The moment the door swung open, it felt like he'd been thrown back to the rush-hour crowds of a subway station.

Malone, Divac, Peja, Tang Zhou, and a swarm of staff members all burst into his room.

"Hey, hey! What are you doing! Hands off—I'm not dressed yet!"

Seeing them charge in like a pack of hungry tigers, Chen Yilun felt a chill run down his spine. He tightened his robe and darted into the inner room.

"It's done! It's done!"

Malone's face was flushed from cheek to neck as he stammered,

"Breaking news—Durant has agreed to sign with us!"

"What?!"

Chen Yilun froze. "Wait, I didn't even know that yet. How did you find out?"

"Woj tweeted it! The whole league's going crazy!"

Divac held up his phone for him to see.

"He… ah!"

Chen Yilun was about to ask something when it hit him—while soaking in the bath earlier, he thought he'd heard his phone ring once. But at the time, he'd been too busy enjoying the jets to care.

He bolted to the bed like a cheetah and grabbed his phone.

There it was—a missed call from Rich Kleiman.

Chen Yilun quickly dialed back, and the call connected almost instantly.

Rich Kleiman's familiar voice came through the line.

"Yilun, Kevin has agreed to join Sacramento. Come over tomorrow morning to finalize the contract details."

Rich's words rang in Chen Yilun's ears like music.

"Great, no problem! How about 9 a.m. tomorrow? We'll be there on time!"

As soon as the call ended, Chen Yilun couldn't hold back anymore. He pumped his fist into the air and shouted,

"Yes!"

Everyone piled onto him in celebration. Weeks of intense work had finally paid off.

"Hold up! Don't celebrate yet!"

Snapping out of the moment, Chen Yilun quickly pulled free from the excited crowd.

"The contract isn't signed yet—we can't pop the champagne at halftime. Divac, go double-check our cap space."

"Peja, get the contract terms drafted clearly. I don't want anyone fumbling tomorrow."

After the two hurried off, Malone turned to him. "And you?"

"Me?"

Chen Yilun blinked. "Get out! I'm putting on clothes first!"

...

Meanwhile, in the office of NBA Commissioner Adam Silver.

Silver stared at the news on his phone, frowning deeply.

"This doesn't make sense… how did Durant end up in Sacramento?"

He slowly stood and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing out at the city lights below.

"Chen Yilun, just how many of my plans do you intend to ruin?"
