"DXD: Infinite Loot System"Chapter 279: Not Your Decision to Make
"I didn't realize you'd been through so much, Tsubaki-san. That must have been hard."
"Do you still hate them? The Shinra clan members who exiled you and your parents?"
Tenra's voice was gentle, tinged with genuine sympathy.
"Maybe I did, once. But none of that matters anymore."
"All I want now is to follow Sona-sama."
Melancholy flickered across Tsubaki's beautiful features as she shook her head, but it was quickly replaced by steely resolve.
From the moment she and her parents were cast out, she'd cut all ties with her former clan. The girl standing here now was Sona Sitri's servant—her loyal follower. That wouldn't change, now or ever.
"Sona really lucked out with her Queen. Even I'm a little jealous."
Tenra's words were sincere, not a trace of flattery. Of course, whether it was his own Queen, Yubelluna, or Rias's Queen, Akeno, both were exceptional in their own right. For any King, having such remarkable retainers was a rare blessing.
"N-no… it's not… I mean…"
It was a compliment, wasn't it? It had to be. Tsubaki's face, which had just regained its composure, turned scarlet all over again.
"Tsubaki-san, don't underestimate yourself. Your talent and your loyalty as a servant are beyond question. Sona treasures you—and honestly, I'm quite fond of you myself."
Tenra stood and closed the distance between them, his gaze intent.
"So, Tsubaki-san… you'll follow Sona for life, won't you?"
"Y-yes! I'll follow Sona-sama for life!"
Tenra's proximity made Tsubaki's heart thunder in her chest, but she didn't hesitate. Her answer only made Tenra's smile widen.
"Sona may not want to go public about us just yet, but someday she'll be my wife, just like Rias and the others."
"And since you'll always be by Sona's side—and I happen to like you quite a bit—how about joining my harem too?"
Join my harem… harem… harem…
Only Tenra could say something so outrageous with such calm, at least among all the people Tsubaki had ever met. His words echoed in her ears, looping endlessly, until her mind went completely blank.
"I-I can't… Tenra-sama…"
"We… we…"
Tsubaki was utterly flustered, her cheeks burning hot. All composure gone, she was lost.
Did he just confess to me? Was that a confession from Tenra-sama?!
Tenra watched her adorable panic with a mischievous, satisfied grin. The vice president was usually an imposing ice queen, but this flustered, bashful side was just too cute to resist.
Of course, there was a playful edge to his approach, but Tenra wasn't joking. He genuinely liked Tsubaki Shinra—and he wanted her in his harem.
With a girl this outstanding, how could he not?
And his ambitions didn't stop there. He'd already set his sights on the rest of Sona's peerage. If he'd conquered the King, why not claim her pieces too? Just like he had with Rias.
But there was no need to rush. These things could wait.
"Tsubaki-san, you don't have to decide now."
"Think it over. I'll be waiting for your answer…"
He leaned in, whispering wickedly in her ear, then waved and strode out of the lounge without another word.
As Tenra's footsteps faded, Tsubaki simply collapsed to the floor, overwhelmed.
The days that followed were peaceful, almost idyllic.
Tenra went to class with Rias and the girls, spent afternoons coaching the kendo club, and occasionally joined them to hunt down stray devils or restless spirits.
But tranquility never lasted long. News soon arrived from the Underworld: Tenra's match against Sairaorg was officially set—ten days from now.
Sairaorg wasn't just any opponent. Tenra was genuinely excited for the challenge, and Yubelluna, along with the rest of his peerage, threw themselves into training with new intensity.
Within the Sancta Diabolus Hall—
"Jeanne-san, how have you been these past few days?"
Tenra lounged on his throne, eyeing the woman chained before him—Jeanne d'Arc.
Ever since capturing her during the Kyoto battle, he'd kept her locked away here. If he hadn't suddenly remembered, he might have forgotten about her entirely.
"Hehehe… So the Red Dragon Emperor finally remembers this onee-san?"
Jeanne lifted her head, chains rattling softly. She looked a little pale from confinement, but her allure hadn't faded one bit.
As the reincarnation of the legendary Saint Jeanne d'Arc, she radiated an unmistakable holiness. Yet her personality was nothing like her past life—she was all sultry charm and mature, teasing energy.
Two utterly contradictory qualities, fused in one woman. Add in her striking face, golden curls, and statuesque figure, and Jeanne was a temptation no man could ignore.
It was enough to make anyone want to worship at her feet.
"Sorry. I've been busy lately. Didn't mean to keep you waiting."
Tenra's expression didn't change, though his "busy" days were mostly spent lazing around with Rias and the others.
"Onee-san doesn't mind. But what do you plan to do with me?"
Jeanne blinked innocently, batting her lashes and sending a few waves of flirtatious electricity his way.
Vixen. Absolute vixen, Tenra cursed inwardly.
"Jeanne d'Arc, how about joining me? Work for me from now on."
"You want onee-san to betray her old comrades?"
"You could put it that way."
"Hehehe… I may look easy, but getting onee-san to betray her companions is impossible."
Tenra's olive branch was met with a gentle, unyielding refusal.
He hadn't expected much, but her resistance still irked him.
Rising, Tenra strode up to Jeanne, lifted her chin, and gave her a wicked smile.
"That's a shame. But whether it's possible or not… that's not your decision to make."
