"DXD: Infinite Loot System"Chapter 294: I Am Lord Tenra's Tool
"Raynare, you really seem to be thriving as the Red Dragon Emperor's pet."
Chessia's voice dripped with mockery.
Raynare stretched, her posture lazy and unbothered. "Ever since I started serving my master, I've felt truly free. My soul isn't shackled anymore."
"Free? Don't flatter yourself."
Chessia's sneer sharpened. "You're as shameless as ever—a traitor, through and through."
"Traitor? Are you talking about betraying Azazel?"
Raynare's eyes narrowed, a faint black aura curling around her.
"Don't play dumb. You're not even worthy to say Lord Azazel's name!"
Chessia's anger boiled over. "You betrayed Azazel, you betrayed the Fallen Angels—how do you even have the nerve to show your face in this world?!"
The girls behind Chessia glared daggers at Raynare. For all their own evil, they despised traitors even more.
Raynare just looked at them, pity in her eyes. "Honestly, Chessia, are you still worshipping Azazel? Still hoping for his favor, one day?"
Chessia snorted. "So what if we are? One day Lord Azazel will understand our devotion and accept us. You, though—a traitor—will never have that chance."
Raynare burst out laughing, nearly doubled over. "Azazel's love? Please. That's the funniest thing I've heard all year."
She wiped a tear from her eye, voice thick with sarcasm. "Face it, Chessia. Azazel's never going to look your way, no matter what you do. How long are you going to keep lying to yourself?"
She leaned in, tone conspiratorial. "Just my theory, but I think Azazel's been over women for ages. No matter how hard you try, it's pointless."
Chessia and the others were livid. "Liar!"
"How dare you slander Lord Azazel like that!"
Raynare's smile turned cold. "Sure, maybe I am. What are you going to do about it?"
She didn't care about badmouthing Azazel—if anything, she relished it. And it wasn't entirely baseless. Plenty of Fallen Angel women had worshipped Azazel, hoping for his attention, but he'd never shown the slightest interest. If anything, he spent more time sneaking off with Odin to human geisha houses. Raynare was convinced: if Azazel wasn't sick, he had some serious quirks.
Chessia's eyes were nearly red with rage. If they weren't standing on Devil territory, she'd have killed Raynare right then and there.
But Raynare just watched them, amused. She saw her old self in these girls—once, she'd worshipped Azazel too. She would've died for him. Looking back now, it was laughable. Pathetic, even.
Only her master was truly worthy. Compared to him, Azazel was nothing.
Whether out of spite or pure pettiness, Raynare had long since written Azazel off. I'm a petty woman—deal with it.
Chessia clenched her jaw, but slowly regained her composure. She raised a hand, stopping her furious followers. Her gaze shifted to Mittelt and Kalawarna, who'd been silent the whole time. A sly glint flickered in her eyes.
"Well then, Mittelt, Kalawarna—why not come back to our side?"
Chessia's voice was syrupy sweet.
Mittelt and Kalawarna stiffened, exchanging uneasy glances. Even Raynare's expression darkened.
Damn Chessia—trying to split us up.
Before the two could respond, the Fallen Angels behind Chessia started protesting.
"Lady Chessia, Mittelt and Kalawarna are traitors, just like Raynare!"
"Shut it! They were obviously forced by Raynare!"
Chessia shot the girl a death glare, wishing she could slap the stupidity out of her.
The others caught on quickly.
"Lady Chessia's right. Mittelt and Kalawarna are loyal—they must've been coerced!"
"Mittelt, Kalawarna, come back. We forgive you."
"That's right, we're your real comrades."
One after another, the girls chimed in—smiles sweet, eyes cold and mocking.
Raynare snorted. Mittelt and Kalawarna weren't idiots. If they went back, their fate would be worse than miserable.
Chessia pressed on, voice icy. "Well? Mittelt, Kalawarna—are you really going to betray us, betray Lord Azazel?"
Mittelt and Kalawarna bowed their heads, silent. Old habits died hard—Chessia's authority still scared them, even now.
Raynare stepped behind Mittelt, gently stroking her cheek. "Don't bother, Chessia. They're not going anywhere."
She leaned close, voice low and commanding. "Mittelt's perfectly happy with her life now. She's found meaning as Master's tool—used and needed."
"Mittelt, tell them. You're Master's tool. You'll never betray him."
Mittelt's body locked up. She knew—if she defied Raynare, this crazy woman wouldn't hesitate to snap her neck.
"I—I'm sorry, Lady Chessia. I'm Lord Tenra's tool. I can't betray him."
Chessia's mouth twitched. "Are you serious, Mittelt?"
Mittelt nodded, eyes downcast. "Mm…"
Part of it was fear, but part of it was true. She'd never felt so fulfilled. Even as a tool, body and soul at Tenra's mercy, her life had never felt so meaningful. She was needed, accepted, surrounded by reliable comrades. No fear of abandonment.
And most of all, she'd come to see just how vast Tenra's potential was. She worshipped him, heart and soul.
Chessia turned to Kalawarna. "And you? Is it the same?"
Kalawarna was calm, almost defiant. "Yes, Lady Chessia. I won't betray Lord Tenra."
Raynare laughed, savoring Chessia's frustration. "Looks like your little scheme flopped, Chessia. Mittelt and Kalawarna aren't going anywhere."
Chessia's face twisted, teeth grinding. She wanted to kill all three of them, but reason held her back. Not here—not now.
"We're leaving!"
She snapped, motioning to her followers.
Raynare appeared in front of them, blocking their path. "Leaving already, Chessia? That's no fun."
Chessia's eyes narrowed. "You planning to keep us here?"
Raynare's smile turned wicked. "Come on, Chessia. Just walking away is boring. Why don't we go somewhere private and play a little?"
Chessia let out a harsh laugh. "You got a death wish, Raynare?"
Back in the Fallen Angel camp, Raynare had never been her match. Now, Chessia's side had double the numbers. She truly had no idea where Raynare found the nerve.
Raynare shrugged. "Who dies is still up for debate. I'll be waiting outside."
She called Mittelt and Kalawarna, striding toward the exit.
Chessia had bullied her plenty in the past. If Raynare didn't pay her back, she wouldn't be Raynare. Besides, she'd just thought of a new trick—maybe she could even deliver a surprise for her master.
One of the Fallen Angel girls hesitated. "Lady Chessia, Raynare's cunning—could this be a trap? Should we go?"
Chessia smiled cruelly. "Of course we go. Against overwhelming power, all schemes are just jokes."
"We couldn't touch them inside, but if Raynare's dumb enough to walk into our hands, let's oblige her."
With a cold smirk, Chessia led her group out after Raynare…
