Chapter 135 - TOA 135: The Working Ghost

After lingering in his rest area for about half an hour, Morpheus wandered out, strolling through Chaldea as if nothing was amiss.

He first visited the medical bay, where he saw Romani bustling about alongside other uninjured medical staff. The area was overcrowded with wounded patients on beds. Those without beds received temporary bandages and were placed in the corridors.

The medical wing was swamped, predominantly with patients.

Mana could heal fatal wounds easily, but at Chaldea, despite its powerful mana furnace, the available mana for medical use was scarce... most was reserved for other purposes.

Thus, the medical bay relied heavily on scientific equipment for less severe cases, saving mana for those near death. This was Chaldea's triage system.

"You're here? Why aren't you resting?" Romani asked, approaching Morpheus.

Morpheus shrugged. "Just checking if I can help."

"It's tough…" Romani said quietly. "The outside world is abnormal, like Singularity F, draining the World's mana. Even if we wanted to use mana for healing, it's nearly impossible to gather enough."

"So, life's been drained, causing a mana desert, right?"

"Exactly. But no need to panic. Chaldea's built on Earth's blueprint. As long as the planet exists, we can draw mana from the leylines... it'll just take time."

"How long?"

"About four days to gather enough mana. For now, we prioritize critical patients, keeping them stable. Others get treated with tech to maximize resources and save the most people."

A cold choice, prolonging some patients' pain but ensuring survival. The only issue?

Morpheus asked, "She's short on staff, isn't she?"

"Desperately. If a third of them recovered, it'd ease the shortage significantly," Romani nodded, sighing. "But we must conserve mana for the other Singularities and to restore the summoning circle for Servants to boost our forces."

Morpheus fell silent, raising his right hand. A golden dagger... or rather, a shortsword... appeared.

The medical staff tensed, unsure why he'd draw a weapon here.

Romani, startled but not intervening, asked, "What are you doing?"

"Helping with healing. You can't expect the poor Director to handle everything with so few people. Even as a spirit, no sleep's fine, but constant high-pressure work would break anyone's mind," Morpheus said, the dagger orbiting him.

"Hot and humid."

With his cryptic words, a breeze emerged in the sealed space.

It wasn't strong, but it was there, stirring the air.

Dense wind elements gathered around Morpheus, and everyone faintly sensed something descending.

The room warped, as if a violent force distorted the space, sparking panic among the staff.

"Carrying a magic circle sure is handy," Morpheus muttered. His left hand summoned a book. As it opened, a page flew out, expanding into a massive sheet enveloping the medical bay.

The mana radiating from it froze everyone... it was Noble Phantasm-level power!

"In the name of YHVH, the divine shall heal all…"

Morpheus chanted, and to everyone's shock, an angel's silhouette appeared behind him. Though a mere shadow, it instilled primal fear.

The moment the angel appeared, Chaldea itself trembled!

The overwhelming power seemed capable of erasing the entire facility from existence!

"What is this?!"

"An angel?"

"Can humans really summon angels?"

"I've heard of borrowing angelic power, but direct summoning?"

Gasps filled the room. Romani, silent, stared at Morpheus in shock.

Unlike the others, Romani, as Solomon, had a contract with God. He knew the might of angels.

But this angel's power surpassed anything he knew, threatening the very planet beneath their feet!

If ranked by divine tiers, this angel... Raphael... matched Earth's entirety!

Where did this angel come from? How had he never known angels could be this powerful?

If angels were this strong, what were other gods even doing? Slacking off?

Romani couldn't fathom this angel or how Morpheus summoned it.

But he understood why Morpheus could join divine battles in ancient Greece and slay Typhon, the Father of Monsters, whom even Zeus feared. Even in a sealed state, Typhon wouldn't stand a chance against Morpheus!

As the crowd reeled in shock and fear, the angel vanished. Its immense power transformed into healing energy, washing over the patients. Those in agony relaxed, closing their eyes and slipping into deep sleep.

The room's distortions normalized. Morpheus clapped his hands and walked away.

Romani stared, dumbfounded.

"He's not gonna say anything?!"

Someone shouted, "Dr. Romani, their injuries are healed!"

"What?!" Romani turned, seeing patients sleeping peacefully, their vitals stable on monitors, as if perfectly healthy.

That was a healing spell... no, magic! Romani thought, shouting, "Check everything! Make sure we didn't miss anything!"

The staff, briefly stunned by Morpheus's actions, sprang back into action. Meanwhile, the once-suffering patients slept like babies in deep slumber.

Having taken full command of Chaldea, Olga Marie worked tirelessly, poring over documents. Her eyes scanned each word meticulously to avoid missing critical details.

She floated midair, unaware, so engrossed she'd entered a trance-like state.

The staff noticed but said nothing. As magi, they knew of spiritual bodies, and while they might not have seen one, they weren't about to yell, "Ghost!"... that'd be embarrassing.

"Pfft, not even noticing your state? Comfy floating up there?" Morpheus's laugh drew her attention, making the staff below straighten up, working harder.

Olga Marie was strict... mistakes meant harsh penalties. And someone dared tease the Director?!

They stole glances, curious about the commotion.

Olga Marie felt drained. The workload was overwhelming. Even with prioritized tasks, future steps needed planning, and progress was slow due to staff shortages.

"Here to mock me?" She snapped at Morpheus, pouting, shocking the staff.

This was the Director?!

She didn't chew him out and kick him out?

As they gaped, Olga Marie set her documents down, realizing her desk was below while she floated above.

She coughed lightly, cheeks flushing, and descended to the floor. "It's because I'm a spirit now! I'm just making the most of my time to get used to this body!"

In Chaldea, she could mimic a human state, her spiritual body nearly indistinguishable from flesh. But here, her ghostly form was slightly transparent.

Without careful mana control, she'd float involuntarily.

"Low density does that," Morpheus said casually, snapping his fingers.

Olga Marie felt her mana surge, her body solidifying until it was indistinguishable from a human's, no longer transparent.

Now, even without focus, she stayed grounded, not drifting.

"Oh? You're actually helping?"

"With that dress, floating around might cause a wardrobe malfunction," Morpheus grinned, then bolted.

Olga Marie froze, her face turning beet red, feeling the heat in her cheeks. She waved her fists, shouting, "That's none of your business!"

The staff stayed silent, not daring to comment.

As Morpheus vanished, Olga Marie sighed, picking up her documents. His interruption felt like a release, easing her tension.

"Was he trying to help me relax?" She shook her head. "No way. That jerk's too obnoxious for that. Just a fluke!"

The lifelong workaholic, never having time for romance, wailed, "We're so short-staffed! If I had ten more people... no, even five... it'd speed things up and ease the situation!"

"Director!" A familiar voice called. Olga Marie, listless, asked, "Romani, what is it?"

"It's done!" Romani's excited voice came through the communicator. "The patients in the medical bay are nearly all treated. They can return to work tomorrow!"

Olga Marie blinked. "What? Treated? How many? Weren't we saving mana for critical cases?"

"Morpheus did it. He healed all the patients in the medical bay. They're healthy now, just needing mental recovery. They're resting and will be back tomorrow."

"Wait, all of them?" Olga Marie thought she was hallucinating.

"Yes, all except the frozen ones. Everyone else is healed!"

Her jaw dropped, feeling like she was dreaming.

She pinched her arm, feeling pain but showing no discomfort, murmuring, "It's real?!"
