Chapter 37 - she met death

He adjusted his glasses.

Everyone's eyes turned toward him.

He blinked once… and walked out.

Calliah was talking to the auction guy, shocked, staring at what was happening.

"Someone followed him!" someone shouted but as people raised their phones to snap pictures, he pulled a gun from his trousers.

She was holding the ring

The barrel passed through the ring hole and aimed at the auction guy close by

 Photos flew everywhere.

He smirked at Calliah… aim and shot the man who had reported on his eyes. Then he jumped into his car and drove off.

"What !!!someone get him!"

 "Call 911!"

"Two people need a doctor!"

Calliah's eyes went wide. Grey eyes full of shock, fear. Lips parted. Life in danger.

 ####

"There was an incident at the auction," the news reporter said, urgency in their voice.

"The Raines Company boss has returned… seeking revenge for his missing ring!"

"An unknown man with purple eyes identity still unknown, whether he is the boss or not shot two people dead!"

"This is him!" A photo of the masked man flashed on the screen.

"If you see him… run for your lives!"

"The winner of the auction is Mrs. Calliah. I hope she will be safe… because the next target could be her."

The TV broadcasted everything, chaos spreading across the state.

"Switch that off," Axel said, rubbing his eyes. He went to the tap and turned off the TV.

"It's Calliah! Aren't you supposed to put her in a safe place, boss? Her life is in danger!"

"What can I do? I don't even know who the hell that guy is," he muttered.

Josh sighed.

"She has family to protect her… she has a father."

"Uhm…Jones said he's coming to the state soon,"josh changed the topic.

"Uhm," Axel muttered.

 *****

"Shut your trash, or I'll throw a hot rod on your dick, ass," a female police officer snapped.

"Shh," her backup whispered, calming the prisoners.

They stopped at a cell. She pulled a key from her trouser band, twisting it until it clicked.

Another officer raised a gun as the female police opened the cell door.

"Don't make a funny move… or you'll see hell," she warned.

She carried the bleeding man, nearly half-dead, out of the jail.

"Take him to the ward," she instructed the others.

"Beatrice," the man muttered.

"Your brother has returned," she said to the man who had beaten the other prisoner.

 "And?"

"He lost the family ring… to a girl called Calliah," she mentioned.

 "Do you see his face?"

"No. But rumors say his eyes were purple the rare color and he killed two men at the auction."

"Hmm… when will the operation be carried out?"

"Next week, when all sergeants and officers are out," she whispered.

"You did a great job watch over Calliah. Keep a close eye on my brother."

"Yes, boss," she nodded and left.

"The fool isn't afraid anymore. He returned in full force, haha," the prisoner laughed evilly while gymming harder.

"I miss you, brother. Tell my regards to dad," he added, laughing as he lifted weights.

Vains nearly popped but he didn't care.

 *****

"Calliah, are you alright?" Mom ran over, touching her all over.

"Mom, I'm alright," she said, breathing heavily.

"You sure?" her mom asked, checking her thoroughly.

"Yes," Calliah said.

"Oh," Mom exhaled, relief flooding her. "I watched the news… you almost got shot. What should I have done? I can't let you get hurt… not even a scratch."

"And who the hell is that guy with purple eyes?" she asked.

"Mom, I don't know. He felt familiar… and strange at the same time. Maybe I've met him before," she murmured.

"No, you haven't. That guy returned from Italy, and you weren't there then."

"I remember… I saw him at the auction when I arrived," Calliah said.

"That doesn't matter, sweetie. Be careful," Mom warned.

"Hmm," Calliah replied, walking to her room.

She placed the ring atop the table, away from her purse.

She couldn't imagine seeing death so close. Her heart still vibrated thinking of the bullet moving toward her.

If he really is the Raines Company boss… why is he hiding? Why hasn't he taken control of his company yet?

Question for the readers:

Who do you think the masked guy is? Were you surprised when the bullet moved toward Calliah?

I'm so excited to find out who he really is. The prisoner's story… just like you all!
