★Nuel's POV★
EARLIER THAT DAY
I was already awake when the servant girl entered my room, a soft knock first, then the quiet creak of the door as she stepped in, bowing slightly before speaking.
"The Alpha requests your presence," she said in that calm, practiced tone of hers, low, careful and void of emotion, as though even her voice feared him. She didn't meet my eyes. None of them ever did when it came to Noca's orders.
I rose from the bed and pulled the thin shroud around my shoulders. The early morning chill bit into my skin, though it wasn't as cold as the thought of facing him again. It was barely dawn, yet Alpha Noca had sent for me. Whatever reason he had wouldn't be anything pleasant as it never was. Each summons meant another reminder of my place, another performance of humiliation he found entertaining.
I started down the corridor toward the dining room, assuming that was where he'd want me, but the servant's voice stopped me again.
