The golden energy beam slammed into Goku's invisible energy shield.
The impact pushed him back dozens of meters, but he held firm. With a deep breath, Goku raised his arms and shattered the Gamma Explosion Flash.
Just as he was about to attack again, Goku noticed something off about Vegito.
Vegito's body was shaking, his form flickering in and out like a dying flame.
"…Your fusion is breaking down?" Goku muttered, his sharp eyes catching every detail. He didn't attack. Deep down, he knew—Vegito should've separated long ago. The only reason he was still here was because of his stubborn will to fight.
This battle… might never see a clear winner.
Vegito stared at his arms, fading in and out of existence. His fists trembled. "My body…" A trace of regret filled his eyes.
Even if he forced it, the Potara fusion wasn't meant to last under this much power. The world itself couldn't handle a warrior like him.
(If only… I wasn't just a fusion…) Vegito thought, his heart heavy. He wasn't only Goku, and he wasn't only Vegeta. He was himself. A fighter who wanted to exist, who wanted to keep clashing until the very end.
But that wish didn't matter now. His only regret was that he couldn't keep fighting his rival in front of him. The burning flame of battle in his chest was being smothered by shame and loneliness.
Of course, Goku noticed.
"Oi, Vegito," he called, his voice cutting through the silence, "how long can you hold out like this?"
Vegito turned to him, his body flickering. "If I don't fight… maybe one minute. If I fight, even less."
"…So our fight won't have a winner after all," he said quietly.
But Goku shook his head, smiling. "One minute? That's more than enough. Stop acting so negative. You're me and Vegeta together. If it were me, I wouldn't waste even a single second!"
Hearing that, Vegito froze. Then his lips curled into a wild grin.
"…Heh. You're right. I shouldn't waste this. I'll fight until the very last moment!"
His eyes blazed with fire again, his fighting spirit reigniting. "One move! One move will decide it, Goku!!"
Divine power surged wildly in his body, stronger than before. All his doubts and regrets vanished, leaving only pure battle intent.
Goku's own aura flared, his snow-white hair glowing as purple destruction energy bled through. His eyes sharpened, a hunter's gaze meeting Vegito's. "That's more like it. Let's end this the right way."
"Haaaaaaaah!!!" Vegito roared, throwing everything into one final attack. The golden and blue destructive energies fused together in his palms, lightning bursting around it, tearing at the seams of the world itself.
"Gamma—Explosion—Turtle Style—Kamehameha—Cannon!!!"
The attack roared like a dragon, its power shaking reality apart. Cracks spread through the barrier of the world, spiderwebbing across the void.
Goku's body shone in silver and purple, his power of blood and destruction merging into one. His hands came together, forming his strongest move.
"Ultimate—Destruction—Kamehameha!!!"
A dark red and purple beam erupted, more terrifying than anything before. Its pressure alone could erase all twelve universes.
"TAKE THIS, GOKU!!!" Vegito screamed, his entire soul poured into the blast.
BOOOOOOOOM!!!
The two ultimate techniques collided, splitting the void apart. Cracks spread endlessly, time and space screaming as if about to shatter completely.
Neither side gave an inch. Their beams locked, their wills crashing harder than their power. The battle became a contest of endurance—whoever lasted longer would win.
But Vegito's time was running out. His form shook violently.
"…Drink!!!" he shouted, forcing every last drop of energy into his attack.
The collision exploded.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!
The entire dimension was swallowed in a blinding storm. Time, space, light—everything froze in silence.
Far away, in the King's Palace, King Quan, the Grand Priest, and the two guards watched quietly, their faces unreadable.
…
Minutes passed. Slowly, the light faded. The dimension's barrier was on the verge of collapse, covered in endless cracks.
Goku and Vegito stood a hundred meters apart, both back in their normal forms. Their bodies were covered in cuts and bruises, yet their spirits still burned.
Goku chuckled softly and raised a thumbs-up. "Looks like it's a draw, Vegito."
Vegito stared at him, then smiled too.
Crack… CRASH!
The Potara earrings shattered. Vegito's body began to flicker, fading into nothing.
"This fight… I'll never forget it…" he said, his voice heavy with both pride and sadness. "…Too bad… we'll never get another chance."
And with that, his figure vanished into the void.
With one final sigh, Vegito's body broke apart, splitting back into Chrono Goku and Chrono Vegeta.
Because Vegito had forced himself to exist far longer than he should have, and with how much power he burned in that fight, all the weight came crashing down on Goku and Vegeta.
Their minds and bodies were drained completely. Both of them collapsed into unconsciousness, unable to wake up for now.
The only one still standing was the other Goku. He stared quietly at the spot where Vegito had disappeared.
(So that's it… Vegito's gone.)
A small smile tugged at his lips. Even though the fusion had ended, he believed—someday—they'd meet again.
Shaking off his thoughts, Goku glanced around at the broken void. Cracks spread across space like shattered glass.
"Man… good thing this place didn't get destroyed," he muttered, a little shaken. "If it did, I don't even know where we'd end up."
The barrier around him trembled, on the verge of collapse. The last time he got dragged into a mess like this, he ended up in another timeline. He wasn't about to let that happen again.
As the battle's shockwaves faded, the fractured world slowly began stitching itself back together. The cracks healed, bit by bit, like a wound closing.
Goku stood still, extending his senses. He followed the flow of energy through the cracks until—
"Found it," he said.
He reappeared in front of the unconscious Chrono Goku and Chrono Vegeta, lifted them onto his shoulders, and used Instant Transmission to leave the rift.
…
On a ruined Earth.
Trunks pushed his energy sense to the limit, searching desperately for signs of the battle. Beside him, East Supreme Kai, Shin, did the same.
"The aura of my dad… and that dark man… it's gone," Trunks said, his voice heavy. "It's like they're not even in this world anymore."
He clenched his fists, uneasy. "I don't know what happened out there…"
Shin placed a hand on his shoulder. "Don't lose hope, Trunks. The future will return to normal. Goku and Vegeta alone couldn't defeat him, but Vegito is different. His power surpasses everything. Even Majin Buu, after absorbing Gohan, was nothing compared to Vegito. Trust him."
To Shin, Vegito was invincible. In his mind, no one could stand equal to Vegito except Beerus himself.
But that was the logic of single warriors. Vegito was more than that—he was rare, special, something different entirely.
WHOOSH!!
The space around them split open.
Trunks and Shin spun around.
There stood Goku—holding the unconscious Chrono Goku in one arm and Chrono Vegeta in the other.
"Dad?! Uncle Goku?!" Trunks' eyes widened in shock.
"This… this can't be!!" Shin shouted. "Did Vegito actually lose?!"
To him, Vegito was supposed to be unbeatable. The idea that he'd lost shook him to his core.
Trunks' chest tightened. (If even Vegito couldn't win… who's left to protect this world?)
His hands trembled, but then his eyes burned with resolve.
"Dark Man… if you're still standing… then your next opponent is me!"
His aura exploded. Flames of godly power burst around him as he transformed into his unique Super Saiyan God form.
His strength was nothing compared to Vegito's, but it didn't matter. This was his world, his home. He had to fight, even if it meant dying.
"This is my responsibility," he said through clenched teeth. "If humanity has to be saved… then it's me who has to do it!"
"Trunks, stop." Goku raised his hand, his voice calm. "There's no point in fighting. I'm not your enemy."
But Trunks' eyes saw only the monster who had tormented his world. To him, Goku was the Dark Man.
"Shut up!!" Trunks roared, tears burning in his eyes. "I'm the last warrior left. If you want to kill mankind… you'll have to kill me first!!"
His energy swelled higher, his body shaking with rage.
Shin backed away fast, fear written on his face. Against these warriors, even a stray shockwave could kill him. And if he died, then Beerus would vanish too. The stakes were too high.
Trunks' rage peaked. "Dark Man!! For the future of the Earth—I'll end you!!"
He charged his attack, white and purple flames coiling around his body.
"GALICK CANNON!!!"
The blast screamed across the sky, tearing the ground apart as it flew toward Goku.
"…Man," Goku sighed, shaking his head.
He casually raised one hand and released a small wave of energy.
CRACK!!
The Galick Cannon shattered instantly, scattering into nothing.
Trunks' face went pale. Even after fighting Vegito, even drained, Goku's strength was still on a level Trunks couldn't touch. The gap was crushing.
He bit down on his lip, ready to charge again—when a weak but familiar voice stopped him.
"…Trunks… stop… he's not the Dark Man…"
Trunks froze.
He turned. Chrono Goku and Chrono Vegeta were awake, their voices strained but firm.
"There's no reason… for this fight anymore," Chrono Goku said, breathing hard.
"…He's not your enemy," Chrono Vegeta added.
Trunks' hands shook as the truth started to sink in.
