Chapter 292 - Chapter 292: The Attacked Base

Chapter 292: The Attacked Base

Knowing Dom well, Ron absolutely didn't believe he would betray his "family," unless there was only one possible scenario: a family member was being held hostage by Cipher or her organization, forcing him to resort to such desperate measures.

Therefore, upon taking on the case, Ron's first order of business was to deploy his men to protect his loved ones.

There was no need to worry about George and Mary back home; with Forrest around, no one could harm them. The only thing that troubled Ron was the fact that he had so many women in his life. Ron didn't know how deeply this mysterious operative named Cipher would investigate him, so he had to deploy comprehensive protection.

Fortunately, Ron had enough personnel, especially the veteran operatives at the retirement facility. Besides their impressive skills, they also had the ability to blend in with their relatively harmless appearance, making them perfect for covert operations.

"Tej, how's the search going?" Ron asked, walking into the control room and observing the dazzling information flashing back and forth on the massive screen.

"This woman is very cunning, check this out," Tej operated on the computer for a while, and countless red dots appeared on the world map on the big screen: "London, Seoul, Miami, Manila... There are reports of Dom being spotted in almost every major city in the world."

Ron frowned: "How is this possible? Did that woman cut Dom into pieces and scatter him across the globe?"

"No, she just used advanced spoofing technology to send data packets to random locations around the world, cleverly masking Dom's true location with information containing his facial recognition data."

"So our God's Eye system is basically useless right now?"

"Not at all!" Ramsey shook her head: "In order to send false data packets to God's Eye, they used a universal logic array, which means there must be a synchronous random number generator. We can reverse-trace the signal from this generator and find Dom's actual location through it."

"I don't know much about the tech stuff, but since you're confident about it, let's give it a shot."

With Ron's approval, Tej and Ramsey immediately began the reverse-engineering process. The red dots on the world map vanished one by one, until only the red dot representing California remained blinking.

Ron felt a sense of foreboding. Every time he felt that way, something bad would happen. Although it wasn't smart to directly associate such a vague feeling with operational work,

Ron couldn't help but ask, "Mr. Nobody, can you tell me what location this is?"

"That's interesting. This is our current position." A strange smile played at the corner of Mr. Nobody's mouth. Just as he was still trying to figure out what had gone wrong...

"BOOM!"

A massive explosion tore through the base's main entrance. A round metal object was thrown in from outside. As it drew closer, Ron could see it clearly.

It was a small disc with several cone-shaped projectiles protruding from it. As the disc spun, the projectiles shot out in a random pattern in all directions.

Although Ron had no idea what it was, his years of combat experience didn't prevent him from recognizing it as bad news.

He didn't want anyone going to such great lengths to break into this classified military facility just to deliver him a present.

Unless that person was the Easter Bunny!

And that moron Hobbs actually reached out and caught one of the cone-shaped projectiles out of the air. Ron's eyes widened in horror.

"Drop it! Hobbs!" Ron yelled, startling Hobbs so much that he quickly dropped the device. But it was too late. The projectile exploded in the air.

The fire and shrapnel that Ron had expected did not appear, but the ear-piercing sound that followed the explosion was extremely loud, making people feel nauseous and want to throw up last night's dinner.

Damn, it's a flashbang!

Ron reacted immediately, but it was too late. The other flashbangs launched into the air exploded one after another. Ron could only grab a soft object and cover his head.

"BZZZZ~"

The intense sound waves from the flashbangs continued to assault Ron's eardrums, but Ron no longer had time to feel nauseous, because he knew that someone would take advantage of their disorientation and attack them soon.

Sure enough, a slender woman led a squad through the blown entrance and strutted in. "How do you like this new toy? The latest sonic disruptor..."

"BANG!" Ron didn't wait for her to finish, firing a shot from behind the table in the direction of her voice.

Unfortunately, he was so severely affected by the sonic disruptor that even with his service pistol, the shot went wide, and had no effect other than startling the woman.

"Whoa!" the woman jumped. "How is someone still conscious?!"

"You said it's just a toy. Do you expect a toy like that to take down a whole room of federal agents? Don't underestimate us FBI guys!"

Ron hid behind a table, fighting back the vertigo that was pounding in his head. Although he kept his voice steady and spoke in his usual tone, he wasn't sure if the enemy was buying it, so he deliberately identified himself as FBI to throw them off.

But his trembling hands betrayed his current condition.

"I don't buy it! This device will keep disrupting your nervous system until you pass out. You must be in agony right now, aren't you?" the woman said in a sultry voice, taunting Ron while quietly signaling to her team.

Ignoring the scattered unconscious figures, the two squads quietly flanked Ron's position. When they finally reached the table where he was hiding, the two point men gestured to each other and simultaneously lunged forward, their weapons trained on the area behind cover.

But behind the table was already empty. They could only helplessly signal to the woman, indicating that no one was there. Dom's anxiety finally settled, a sigh of relief filling his heart.

As long as Ron was okay, everything would be fine. There was still a chance for a comeback. He had always had unwavering faith in Ron.

What a joke! How could Ron, with all his combat experience, just stay put and wait for death after revealing his position?

As soon as the woman's team began to move, he caught their movements in the reflection of broken glass on the floor. Then, using the cluttered equipment as cover, he quietly repositioned behind another support column.

But the bad news was that the effects of the flashbangs were still wreaking havoc on his system, and his current combat effectiveness was less than ten percent of his usual capacity!
