*Boom*
Luck's body sailed through the air as the goblin chief gave chase.
It was safe to say that Luck abhorred frontal assaults, especially ones that relied on endurance.
Luck had clashed with the orcling several times, and each time he had lost ground and was settling rocketing.
The chief's strikes, although initially imbued with massive strength, were still manageable as he could parry them, thereby directing the force elsewhere. Now with its life on the line, the orc attacked with a whole new ferocity, slashing like a madman and leaving the young necromancer unable even to parry, his only option being to dodge.
Unfortunately, the opportunity rarely presented itself. Though it wasn't that bad, as with him lasting this long against the orcling, he was slowly gaining ground as his shadows mercilessly destroyed its insides.
Shockingly, though, the chief's strikes grew more fierce as its body deteriorated further.
Luck landed on the floor as he rolled backward upon landing, just barely missing the chief's heavy slash.
Grabbing the axe as the halfling raised it for another assault, Luck launched himself over its head, immediately stretching out his palm as several magic circles appeared behind him.
"Barrage"
*Boom*
The orcling's body was dragged across the floor from the explosion as several injuries of all kinds opened on its body, and to Luck's utter surprise, they didn't seem to be healing.
(Make sense. His internal body must have his special traits' full attention.)
Luck suddenly began to cough as blood was soon splattered on the floor—his blood.
Luck couldn't lie to himself. No matter how talented he was, he couldn't face an A rank who was an anomaly separate from the rest of his species without making a few sacrifices. No amount of planning could completely sustain the unknown.
By breaking his restraints and using all his movement-related skills to heighten his speed to a level that was even slightly above the orcling's, he was harming his body.
Air pressure, sudden movements, flexibility, and a whole lot more were forced on his body to handle.
His body was simply not yet built to handle such speeds.
Not to mention, this rampant use of mana was harming his internals and his core. He Mana Regeneration that was actually saving him from collapsing, as the mana was also used in keeping his internals together for the time being.
(!!!)
Luck's perception banged his brain, causing him to immediately look up.
To his surprise and horror, the orcling had reached him. Its axe was already swinging towards him.
He was quick to react, but even with that, he only managed to put his scythe in between them in a desperate block.
*Clang**Boom*
Luck instantly crashed into a tree as he spat out more blood. His internal system became more grave.
The orc closed the distance as it slashed again.
In his disorientation, he only managed to put up a few Skeleton Shields and Shadow walls.
It was far from enough.
*Boom*
Luck flew through several trees, finally smacking into the wall, with his body dangerously close to shutting down.
Not wanting the necromancer to recover, he attempted to follow, but unfortunately for the goblin, it was intercepted by the boy's summons.
*Crackle*
Asher's spear crackled violently as he lunged at the chief, piercing its body and sending it into another spiral of pain, only made worse by Luck's internal mayhem.
The pain caused it to stumble violently, setting it up for a brain-shaking uppercut, courtesy of Dwayne.
For a split second, its vision went black as it was sent sprawling to the side, its senses scattered to the point it didn't notice the undead shieldsman who swung its mace at its leg.
*Craack*
The sounds of bones breaking were heard as the chief rolled onto the floor.
Seeing their prey on the ground, weakened, the undead rushed towards the orcling like thugs looking for a gangbang.
To its credit, though, it still seemed to have enough energy to protect itself as the summons's weapons rebounded off the skin of qi shielding it.
The orcling stood up, shaking like a leaf, but with one heavy swing of its war axe, it managed to send the summon hurtling back.
*Boom*
The halfling turned back just in time to see Luck shooting towards him.
Blood was pouring from his eyes, nose, and mouth, but that didn't seem to stop him as he closed the distance between them like it was child's play.
Luck was burning his mana heavily. It allowed him to raise his speed to even greater heights, so that he seemed like a blur to most people on the battlefield.
But the price was further damaging his condition, which was quickly edging toward the point of no return.
Like a seasoned warrior, it moved to intercept Luck, but the necromancer was literally on another level now as he instantly split up.
Yes, I didn't make a mistake as the writer. A black figure quickly separated from Luck's body, immediately morphing into Luck as it swerved to avoid the axe.
They reached the orc's feet quickly as they swung their weapons, dagger and scythe, with such speed that the chief couldn't react.
"Dismantle."
"Shred."
In seconds, its feet were no longer there to support it. One had been diced so cleanly that it resembled meat from an abattoir, while the other had been ripped apart like paper.
It was easy to see that this was the beginning of the chief's defeat.
On bloody stumps, and having exhausted its qi reserves, all the chief could do was execute another sweeping slash.
Luck quickened his steps, avoiding the swing as his scythe glowed with mana.
(Cross beam)
*Flash**Flash*
Two slash marks appeared on the dying orcling's chest, but didn't seem to be finished as he disappeared, reappearing in the air behind the goblin.
"Guillotine."
*Flash*
Another slash. This time, its weapon arm fell to the floor, severed cleanly.
By this time, the orcling was not even responding to stimulus again. Asher quickly finished it off with a quick pierce to the head.
*Ding*
[Quest Completed!]
The notification rang in Luck's head, but he barely heard it.
He had gone too far, and in doing so, he had left his internals in a mess.
Luck needed to act fast. Unless he would soon join the monster he had fought so hard to kill.
