Chapter 149: Another Strange Mode Appears
For a moment, it seemed as if countless black webs were radiating outward from Spider-Warrior Xi Nian's dual form above the giant wave.
These webs, enhanced by Venom's power, were far tougher than normal spider silk, capable of stretching for kilometers with ease.
Within seconds, dual-form Xi Nian used the mountains beside the town, tall buildings within the city, and the intact lighthouse as anchor points, weaving a massive dark web above the town's coast.
But that wasn't all.
Standing firmly on one delicate web strand, the eight spider limbs on Xi Nian's back moved in unison, piercing the chaotic sea behind like dark, elongated spears, embedding deep into the seabed beneath the town's coast.
From each of the eight dark spider spears, more black webs surged out, like a highly adhesive black slime with a will of its own. The strands twisted and connected, forming a massive barrier that protected the ruined ocean biology museum, now reduced to just a single layer.
The giant waves roared and slammed against the web barrier, spilling over from the coastline into the town.
The once peaceful seaside town turned into a merciless human battlefield. Low-lying houses were instantly submerged, waves continued destroying buildings and roads, and ships and ocean debris were swept along in the flood.
Xi Nian had no choice. Faced with such a sudden natural disaster, his first priority was to save the people inside the ocean museum.
Boom!
A tall, striking figure emerged from the water, Diana transformed into Wonder Woman, leaping from the sea.
She saw the black web Xi Nian had spun and swung her mighty arms. The nearly limitless lasso floated to the surface, capturing nearly a dozen people, including Mary Jane and Felicia.
The lasso lifted them into the air, hooking them onto the sticky black webs. Soaked through, they felt like they were seeing sunlight again, spitting out seawater as they dried under the sun.
Wonder Woman's head and upper body barely emerged above the murky water. Her silver tiara glimmered, black hair flowing like a waterfall into the sea. The golden lasso twisted like a dragon before plunging back into the water.
She met Xi Nian's gaze atop the black web. No words were exchanged, only a silent nod of understanding.
Wonder Woman took a deep breath and dove back into the sea. Even with the dark web shielding the museum from the waves, ordinary people in the water were still in danger.
Now, the race against death truly began.
"Let me think… what to do…" Xi Nian squinted, looking down at the trash-filled water.
He wasn't alone in his thoughts—Gwen was strategizing too.
"That will do," Xi Nian decided quickly.
He detached the eight spider limbs from his back and closed his eyes. In this strange symbiotic state, Gwen's Spider-Sense spread outward like a static field, permeating the water and covering the submerged museum site.
Debris, ocean trash, marine life, and humans—all their shapes and locations appeared in Gwen's mind.
Because Xi Nian and Gwen were symbiotic, sharing thoughts, he directly received the feedback.
It was an incredibly subtle feeling. Xi Nian wasn't a true symbiote, just a human with symbiote powers. It felt like their inner souls were intimately connected.
"This just got a lot easier…" Xi Nian murmured, flicking his wrists to shoot two black web strands toward the water below.
Splash! The webs sank into the sea for half a second. Xi Nian pulled his hands up, tearing the surface in two spots. The webs acted like black fishing nets, each scooping up five or six soaked students and parents.
It was like a giant fishing game. Those captured in the water were placed on the black web.
In less than thirty seconds, Xi Nian had almost everyone in the museum area safely on the large web.
Some harder-to-reach people among the debris were rescued by Wonder Woman diving into the water.
As a result, hundreds of ordinary people, suspended above the town on the black web and out of the wave's reach, hung like humanoid fish and shrimp, creating a spectacular and surreal scene.
Xi Nian quickly scanned the web and saw almost all students and parents had been saved—except Instructor Rott.
He had likely been swept elsewhere by the waves, which made his survival uncertain.
"Don't worry. He made it through the New York battle. He'll be fine this time too," Gwen reassured.
"Hope so," Xi Nian nodded.
Nearby, at the base of the mountain, a loud splash sounded.
A massive shark-like figure rose from the waves, landing on the mountainside. It had arms and legs, walking on land, carrying a burly human man on its shoulder.
If not Rott, then who? The mysterious shark threw Rott to the ground. Coughing up water, he curled up in panic. "Don't eat me! I taste awful!"
"Who said I'd eat you… if not for the boss's scent… never mind," the shark muttered, adjusting its jeans, pausing briefly, then dove back into the waves.
"A talking shark?" Rott was dumbfounded.
Looking at the town, half destroyed by the tsunami, Gwen's eyes held a cold glint. Xi Nian, increasingly in tune with the supernatural, sensed this was no ordinary natural disaster.
Who could be behind this?
He doubted it was Aquaman. At least, the current version didn't have this power.
"What is that?" Xi Nian raised his eyes. Amid the giant waves in the distance, a graceful female figure moved freely through the turbulent sea.
"Gwen, tell Auntie to stay here and wait for me…" Xi Nian squinted.
Gwen realized what he planned and shouted in his mind: "Wait! Don't go!"
Before the words finished, a black liquid separated from Gwen, forming a thin black web, shooting swiftly toward the figure deep in the sea.
