Chapter 52 - Vampire Detective (34)

For the past three days, I've been living in a detached house, rolling around with Choi Seonmi.

First, Choi Seonmi's body was excellent. Second, I harbored a lingering unease about her potential betrayal.

Even as she lay beneath me, moaning and writhing, there remained the possibility that she was secretly plotting against me.

After all, she betrayed the Black Cross Society in the original drama.

I'd taken certain precautions.

First, I threatened to leak high-definition sex videos filmed without her knowledge across South Korea and internationally if she tried anything foolish.

Choi Seonmi valued her life above all else, and her ambition for success burned just as fiercely. The prospect of having her success with my help make her desperate to gain my favor.

She's even more obedient than I expected. Is this genuine Stockholm Syndrome?

I lay on the bed where I had been rolling around with Choi Seonmi until this morning, staring at my smartphone.

A text message from her was coming in.

Choi Seonmi: As per Yujin's orders, I came to work without panties.

She sent me a photo taken in the office restroom. It showed her lifting her tight skirt to reveal her crotch, wrapped in coffee-colored pantyhose.

There were no panties visible. The pantyhose pressed against her pale pubic hair and prominent labia, leaving them fully exposed in the photo.

What is she? Was she born with a genuine slave mentality?

She does everything I tell her to do. No joke, Choi Seonmi faithfully carries out my orders.

If I asked for a video of her masturbating in the bathroom, she would actually masturbate in the bathroom and send me the video.

Choi Seonmi - Yujin-nim. My pussy is throbbing so badly. I want to taste your cock soon...

She had been sending me messages like this intermittently. I hadn't asked her to do it; she was sending them of her own free will.

...Ha. Was she just a naturally lewd bitch all along?

As I texted Choi Seonmi to masturbate, I recalled the information she had previously shared about the Black Cross Society.

Although she belonged to the Red Light Division, she also worked at the Black Cross Society headquarters. The division was merely a facade.

The Black Cross Society has already deduced my abilities.

They had thoroughly investigated and analyzed Red Light's psychic power, focusing on its connection to machine manipulation in other words, hacking.

Even I was astonished. After using hacking only a few times, they've already figured out this much.

Red Light's collaborator... This was a miscalculation.

The Black Cross Society believes Red Light has a collaborator. They're currently mobilizing to find both Red Light and his accomplice.

Vampire hunting operations have been temporarily suspended, meaning they're focusing all their resources on capturing Red Light alone.

...And they've even planned a trap to catch him.

They're creating a training facility for Vampire Hunters, disguised as a fitness club like Sunset Fitness. They've been subtly leaking information to the underworld, betting that Red Light a madman confident in his skills will strike again.

Hmm. If Choi Seonmi hadn't warned me about the trap... I might have gone.

This seemed like nothing more than an opportunity to thin the ranks of Vampire Hunters. To be honest, I was confident I could wipe out even a hundred of them.

But this is supposed to be a well-prepared trap.

The Korean Black Cross Society must be truly enraged. They've not only stationed snipers around the trap but also secretly planted bombs throughout the building.

The funniest part was when I heard they were even mobilizing Javelin missiles to capture me.

Those are anti-tank missiles! They'd use something like that in Seoul?

It was clear just how desperately the Black Cross Society wanted me dead.

But I can just not go.

I'm not arrogant. It's true that my close-quarters combat skills are exceptional enough to slaughter Vampire Hunters. But I'm not invincible.

The most obvious example is sniping. There's no way to dodge a bullet fired from an unknown location. And then there's being surrounded in a wide-open space. If they surround me and open fire, even I would be riddled with bullets and die.

Still, we need to thin out the Vampire Hunters. There aren't many left now.

I received information from Choi Seonmi about Vampire Hunters who operate independently rather than in groups. My goal is to assassinate them. If Choi Seonmi's information is accurate, there shouldn't be any real danger.

Vrrr.

A message arrived. I thought it was Choi Seonmi, but it was Moon Ji-Hyeok.

Moon Ji-Hyeok - Taker: Found him.

Taker - Oh. I didn't expect you to find him before me. Who is it?

Moon Ji-Hyeok - Sergeant Ji Anseok. A special forces soldier who retired five months ago after being wounded in Iraq.

Moon Ji-Hyeok - He has a motive. His only father, who ran a factory, reportedly committed suicide due to harassment from a major corporation.

Moon Ji-Hyeok - Upon investigation, it was revealed that the Dawn Group had been pressuring Ji Anseok's father financially while also using gangsters to torment him for an extended period. Ji Anseok only learned of this shortly before his retirement.

I nodded. That was the correct answer.

"Moon Ji-Hyeok is certainly capable. I never thought he'd actually find it."

If Moon Ji-Hyeok hadn't found it, I was planning to just tell him. It would have been easier to manipulate him that way.

Taker - Exactly. Ji Anseok. He's someone I've been suspicious of too, but I didn't say anything because I wasn't certain. Ji Anseok went to Mexico three months ago.

Taker - He probably met a broker in Mexico and acquired weapons and explosives. The problem is, Ji Anseok's current location is completely unknown.

Moon Ji-Hyeok: You can't track Ji Anseok's location?

Taker: I'm not omnipotent. Besides, Ji Anseok was just one of the suspects I was investigating. I haven't dug into him properly yet.

Taker: I'll contact you after I've thoroughly investigated Ji Anseok.

Moon Ji-Hyeok: We don't have time, Taker.

Taker: I know. Don't rush me. Rushing won't speed things up. We need to stay calm to stop him.

Taker: Rest and wait. Catching him is your job as a vampire and a detective. Don't go wandering around and get hurt.

Moon Ji-Hyeok: Understood.

I grinned and stood up.

While Moon Ji-Hyeok is obsessed with Ji Anseok... maybe I should kill a few Vampire Hunters.

Wearing the Clown Mask and adopting the identity of Red Light, I began assassinating Vampire Hunters who were operating independently.

The information Choi Seonmi provided was accurate. She had truly submitted to me.

Sunday.

Moon Ji-Hyeok decided to take a proper break for the first time in a while.

Lately, he had been so swamped with work that he hadn't had a proper rest. Physically, his vampire body could handle the strain, but mentally, he felt somewhat drained.

"This place's budae jjigae is really good, right?" Yang Jeongmin said with a smile from across the table. Seeing her smile, Moon Ji-Hyeok unconsciously smiled back.

Being with her made him forget all the mental exhaustion he had been feeling. It was like a warm breeze blowing through his weary mind, causing flowers to bloom.

Moon Ji-Hyeok had to admit it: he had fallen in love with Yang Jeongmin, the woman before him.

He never imagined that simply being in her presence could bring such comfort and happiness. He was surprised by his own feelings, but it wasn't an unpleasant sensation.

"Yes, it's really good. It was worth waiting in line for an hour."

"It's a famous place that was on TV. They say it's the best budae jjigae in Incheon."

"It tastes even better eating it with you, Jeongmin-ssi."

Moon Ji-Hyeok immediately regretted saying that. Even he thought it sounded cheesy.

"Really? I was thinking the same thing! Maybe we have something in common."

Yang Jeongmin smiled brightly. Moon Ji-Hyeok couldn't take his eyes off her. That pure smile made his heart flutter.

Vrrring.

His oblivious smartphone vibrated. He wanted to ignore it, but his profession wouldn't allow it. Urgent calls or messages often came at odd hours.

"Haa..."

"I'm fine. You should check it."

"Okay. Excuse me for a moment."

It wasn't a call, but a message. And it was from Taker, whom he'd been contacting frequently lately.

Taker: We've got a major problem! Ji Anseok has already infiltrated South Korea and is currently driving to Dawn Group headquarters! He's heading there now! Plus, Dawn Group headquarters is hosting its 60th anniversary celebration, so there's a huge crowd gathered there!

Moon Ji-Hyeok's face suddenly hardened. Yang Jeongmin, seeing his expression, was startled. She had never seen him look so serious before.

"...It must be urgent?"

"Yes, yes. I'm sorry, Jeongmin-ssi. I need to go right away."

"It sounds like a case. There's no helping it. I'll give you a ride."

They had come in Yang Jeongmin's car today because she had suggested visiting the famous budae jjigae restaurant in Incheon.

"No, it's alright. I can take a taxi."

"My car is faster than a taxi."

"...It's dangerous."

"I'm a police officer too."

Moon Ji-Hyeok finally decided to accept her help.

"...Then I'll take you up on that."

"Yes! I'll show you what the Traffic Division's driving skills are all about!"

Moon Ji-Hyeok and Yang Jeongmin raced toward Dawn Group's headquarters.

We need to get to Dawn Group HQ first and capture Ji Anseok!

His leg trembled nervously in the passenger seat. A quick online search revealed that over ten thousand people had gathered at the headquarters for Dawn Group's 60th anniversary celebration.

The entire chairman's family would be attending the event. Ji Anseok planned to kill not only the chairman but his entire family.

Damn it! I was too complacent! I never imagined Ji Anseok would involve civilians in his revenge! The bastard's already lost his mind to vengeance!

Ji Anseok had already disregarded his own life.

Yang Jeongmin, unable to hide her anxiety, asked Moon Ji-Hyeok, "I never thought you'd be so flustered, Ji-Hyeok-ssi... What's going on?"

"It's terrorism! A retired soldier is planning a terrorist attack on the Dawn Group!"

"What?!"

Startled, Yang Jeongmin bit her lip and pressed harder on the accelerator.

Moon Ji-Hyeok pulled out his smartphone and called Team Leader Oh Jeongjin.

"Oh, what's this? Detective Moon? Why are you calling so suddenly?"

"Team Leader! It's terrorism! Retired Sergeant Ji Anseok is planning a bomb attack on the Dawn Group headquarters! We need the police SWAT team's support immediately! Hurry!"

"What? What are you talking about?"

"It's a terrorist attack, Team Leader! If we're too late, thousands could die!"

Damn it. Is this intel reliable?

"Absolutely! Ji Anseok's father committed suicide due to pressure from the Dawn Group! He's heading for their headquarters right now! We need to secure the roads around the building immediately!"

Fuck. A bomb attack in South Korea? Unbelievable.

Click.

The call ended. Even if Oh Jeongjin usually slacks off, he'd take this seriously. He's probably requesting backup from higher-ups right now.

Moon Ji-Hyeok - Taker! What's his exact location?

Taker - I don't know! All I know is he's in a cannon truck.

Moon Ji-Hyeok - A truck? Do you have the license plate?

Taker - 6734!

This was valuable information. Moon Ji-Hyeok quickly sent a message to Team Leader Oh Jeong-jin:

"I've arrived!"

"Thank you! Jeongmin-ssi, please wait here!"

Bang! Moon Ji-Hyeok flung open the car door and stepped out, scanning his surroundings. Directly ahead, a commemorative event was underway in front of headquarters.

A professional singer was performing on a stage set up for the occasion. In the distance, dozens of police cars were speeding toward the scene.

Where is he? Judging by the police cars, they probably haven't caught him yet!

Moon Ji-Hyeok soon spotted a suspicious man. Dressed in a black jacket and wearing a baseball cap pulled low, the man was walking toward headquarters.

Instinctively, Moon Ji-Hyeok knew.

Ji Anseok! That's him!

Moon Ji-Hyeok sprinted toward headquarters.
