Chapter 18 - Their New Beginning

Park Jin Yang was an aspiring musician. He definitely got what it took to live from playing music and singing, if only one day he decided to do it. He was excellent with drums, good with guitar, and adequate on piano. He could also sing but he's not the kind who'd venture as a lead vocalist anywhere anytime soon. He's a member of a band and took the position as the drummer.

One thing that he tried since he knew Ga Eun better was song-writing. The song just popped into his head the day after that first date. For almost two years, he had perfected the song into something worth-listening. He just didn't feel like sharing it to anyone yet. It's a personal song, written for very personal reasons, about someone very dear to him.

But he was tired of waiting, of being attentive and caring and waiting for her to realise his feelings, to give him a chance, to reach out to him.

Lee Myung Hwan was out of the way for his enlistment. He thought that it was then or never. The tips from Ki Jun pushed himself to do this. He was giving himself a real chance with her. If he had to be embarrassed afterwards, then so be it. At least he had done his very best.

Ignoring the silly fact that his hands were shaking, he still sent the text message to her.

"Please go to the Music Club today after classes are over. Please, please, please!"

And Ga Eun did go.

Jin Yang was sitting alone there. Nobody was around. There was only him, his nervous smile, and his guitar.

"Hello, Jin Yang," she greeted softly.

"Thank you for coming," he said breathlessly, her presence pulling and drowning him but he fought to be calm and did his purpose.

"Why did you call me here?"

"I—um—want to show you something."

"Oh. What is it?" she asked as she swept her glance around the room, "A surprise?"

"Y—yes. H—how did you kn—know?" he stuttered, mentally slapping himself by doing it.

"Ki Jun gave a hint."

"Ah."

"But all he said was 'Be nice to Jin Yang today.'"

He laughed, his nervousness abated a little.

"So, uh—I play music. You do know that, right?"

"Ne. I see you when you perform with your friends at the cafeteria."

"Yes, well. Besides drumming, I play guitar too."

"Jeongmal? Guitar? That's great!"

"And recently, I've been trying to write a song."

"Wow," she exclaimed, happy to know this side of Jin Yang.

"The song is....uh....about you.....and I just finished it yesterday. I want you to listen to it."

She was clearly touched. "It's about me?"

"Ne. I've been writing it slowly since we became friends. But it's, uh.....I'm not a good singer so don't laugh, okay?"

"I won't. I'm sure it's good."

"Don't say it before you listen to it. How would you know? You might hate it."

"I won't."

He smiled. "Okay. Here we go."

He sat on a chair and started strumming his guitar. His nervousness evaporated for the time being. What's left was only the wish to sing properly and make her understand what he felt.

The song was definitely sweet, easy to like, and floated around them like clouds.

Star that shines in the sky

Star that shines far away from me

Seems like you came down to my heart

Star engraved in my heart

Star that shines in my heart

I think that might be you

Can you hear a quivering voice? Oh star

Can you feel my passionate heart? You're my star

From a very long time ago

I know that you are the love I've been dreaming of

Let us always be together

Even if time passes

(hope that you) Always shine on the same place

My heart, will only be given to you

Can you hear a quavering voice? Oh star

Can you feel my passionate heart? you're my star

From a long time ago

I know that you are the love I've been dreaming of

Let us always be together

Even if time passes

(hope that you) Always shine on the same place

My heart, will only be given to you

The star engraved in your heart

The star that shines in your heart, I hope that is me

Forever I will love you

My eyes will only look at you oh

oh will you only look at me too

Let us be each other's star

It was not hard to see that it was a song dedicated to her. She was really moved and flattered by it. To think that someone would do this for her was overwhelming.

It was a beautiful song.

She clapped her hands enthusiastically after he was done.

He beamed and bowed

"A beautiful song."

"Gamsahamnida."

She said nothing so he continued with, "So..."

"So?" she asked.

Jin Yang closed his eyes. He had prepared an eloquent confession. Even wrote it somewhere. But finally the words that came out were the essentials. Simple, but real and honest. The very definition of him.

"I really like you. I want us to be more than friends. Please."

Ga Eun gasped. She knew, of course. She just chose to close her eyes and not answer that notion all this while.

"Jin Yang.....honestly.....I've been loving someone else for quite long already....."

"I know."

"Ah. The always informative Ki Junnie"

"Ne."

"Well, does this guy love you too?"

".....No"

"Does he know you love him?"

".....No."

"Ever tried to tell him?"

"I'm not as brave as you are," she smiled, "Besides, it will ruin things if I confess."

"Then please...just be with me. It's hard to love someone and your feelings is unanswered. Trust me, I know that."

"Do you?"

"Yes."

With you, Jin Yang thought. But he guessed she knew that already. There's no need to emphasise it.

"Ga Eun?"

"Ne?"

"What do you want?"

"...Me? Like anybody else in this world. My wish is simple but not always easy to achieve."

"And that is?"

"I want to be happy."

They looked at each other for several moments, treading cautiously on unknown grounds.

"Then please be with me. I'll do everything I can to make you happy."

"Jin Yang.....even if I say yes...probably I will only be able to see you as a good friend."

"Try. Let's try it. Give me a chance. Please."

She was amazed by the thoughts running in his head.

He's nice and kind. And I trust him. And he loves me.

It's incredible to realise that you could trigger that kind of feeling in someone.

And I wish, I wish to be happy.....

"Ahrasseo," she finally said.

"You mean—" his eyes widened.

"Yes."

"Are you sure?"

"Are you?"

"Yes!"

"And you are okay with my feelings for– for another guy right now?"

"I'll take it. But I'll do everything I can to change your mind. To—make you only think of me," he whispered the last sentence, walking closer and closer to her.

Ga Eun nodded.

Jin Yang's face stretched into a smile as wide as it's possible.

She said yes. She. Said yes. She said. Yes.
