When Daphne finished eating, Alaric reached for her hand and helped her to her feet.
Then he led her out.
As they walked through the corridors, every knight they passed bowed.
When they reached the cell, the guards opened the doors at once. The knights bowed again, then backed out quickly, leaving the three of them inside.
Arel looked up from where he was bound, then smiled.
"So," he said. "you still won't give us space to talk? Not even for a moment?"
Alaric didn't hesitate. "Don't even dream of it."
"You have twenty minutes," he continued coldly. "You will talk. You will answer her questions, and when that time is up, this ends."
Arel chuckled under his breath. "Still so protective."
Alaric's jaw tightened. "Start talking."
Arel's gaze shifted to Daphne. The smile softened, just a little. "Ask whatever it is you need to know."
Daphne took a breath.
"How do you know about our past life?" she asked.
Arel didn't answer right away. His expression changed at first.
