Chapter 3 - Realization...

"So I really am inside of a novel, damn..."

After successfully and completely reading through the book, there was one thing Kael understood—he really had been transmigrated into a novel world he had once read: [Hero, The Savior].

Everything he read, even though it was just the basics—like the power scale of this world, the Lunius Continent, its core kingdoms and empires—was exactly the same as the setting in [Hero, The Savior].

Though he still couldn't fully believe this situation, he had to at least pretend to accept it.

"[Hero, The Savior], ah... it brings back such sweet memories..." As he muttered these words, he seemed lost in deep thought… drifting further and further into the memories of his previous life, before he died.

---

Kael's Thinking POV:

[Hero, The Savior], as the name implies, is the story of a hero who becomes the savior of the whole world. He becomes the strongest under the heavens, blessed by Mana itself.

But unlike how the MC should have been, he chose his own path—even going against his fate.

He didn't choose the path of a Magician, where he would have been easily overpowered. Instead, he chose to be a Swordsman, saying:

"A real man should swing a sharp sword, not some piece of shi—ahem, wood."

That dialogue was insanely famous among readers. Even in other novel communities, people mentioned it from time to time. And yeah, I was also a hard-ass fan of it. Like, who wouldn't love a grinder-machine type MC, right? Hahaha...

Anyway, besides that, the story was similar to other novels—but because of the unique MC, it was a lot more fun.

It had adventure, a little harem romance, action fights, and finally... the war between humans and demons.

!!

"Ayee... wait! Wait a second, doesn't that mean I also have to participate in that war?!"

If I'm inside the novel, then as a human, I'll also have to participate—or else I might be considered a spy for the demons, since more than 70% of humanity fought in that war. Ah, fuck that war. "Will I even survive until then?!"

Let's leave the war part aside for now... Even surviving until the war arc is impossible. Because after the first few introductory arcs comes the complete upheaval of the story, when high-level demons are summoned right into Savior Academy—the place considered one of the safest in the world, like the royal palaces of great kingdoms and empires.

Many die there... mostly extras, but even some side characters. Yet... there was never anyone named Kael Morwin. Which means... "I'm a complete nobody. An extra! For real??"

"..."

"...Ah... my head..."

---

Staring at the ceiling, Kael sighed. He had been trying to fall asleep, but, "Ah, I can't... ahh, my head." Forget sleeping—he now couldn't even stay awake clearly.

After that big revelation, now he was facing a pounding headache. "Ah fuck... what time is it now?" He got up from the bed and looked toward the window. "Damn..." It was already dark.

He grabbed his phone, still uselessly left on the table. "Well... at least I know what time it is." It showed 5:56 p.m.

"Ha... it's already about to be night." Looking again at the window, the curtains were swaying in the evening breeze, and through the gaps he could see the darkness slowly swallowing the last bit of the daylight.

*Growl...

'Right, I haven't eaten anything since waking up here. Sigh...' Just thinking about food made his hunger spike tenfold.

'But...' Taking another glance around, he sighed again. "There's no kitchen here, wow..." He really felt like one of those desperate extra MCs he had read about in novels.

In search of anything edible, he decided to open the drawer he hadn't checked yet—the one attached to the table—and... 'Thank god, there's something to eat.' He found some chips and chocolates inside.

Grabbing a packet, he tore it open and began eating. While chewing, he decided to take a look outside the dorm since he haven't stepped outside till yet. 'Might be lucky enough to gain some valuable info,' he thought.

To prepare, he stuffed two chocolates into the left pocket of his trousers, and his phone into the right. 'Maybe it'll come in handy, who knows. At least it shows me the time,' he reasoned.

'Hmm... should I change into something else...?' He pondered, staring at his clothes. At the moment, he was wearing just a half-sleeve t-shirt. He didn't want to draw unnecessary attention by overdressing, but he also didn't want to walk around in just a half-sleeve shirt.

He opened the wardrobe which just beside the table, 'yeah I got no separate room for changing' he looked through clothes, weren't many but wasn't too few, "Agh, whatever. Hoodie is the bestie."

Finalizing his choice, he grabbed and threw on a hoodie over his shirt. Then he side-eyed the other drawer he hadn't opened yet. "Ah, I didn't check that one. What might be inside?"

Opening it, he found a set of keys. "Oh! Keys... yeah, how could I forget those. Sigh..." After grabbing them, he shut the drawer with a thud. Before heading for the door, though, he decided to do the most important, final thing.

...

"Just... a little here... and there... ah! Completed! Now I look more handsome than before, hehe..." The most important task, apparently, was fixing his black hair. It wasn't too long, but long enough to style however he wanted.

"Okayyy, now let's goooo..." And off he went—growll!

"..."

'Ah... let's hope there's something nice to eat there...'

Where? To the canteen, yeahh!!

---

Kael's POV:

"Ehh... n-no... I-I didn't know a-and I was in a h-hurry so I fo-forgot...." I didn't have any excuses.

The woman at the counter looked at me like I was the most wanted person in the academy. "Well, let's say I believe you might have forgotten to bring your student ID in a hurry. But what the heck do you mean by 'you didn't know'?"

Literally—what the heck do I mean by that?

"Everybody in this academy knows that the student ID holds merit points, which can be used as currency. How come you didn't know?"

She was right, 100%. But how could I make her believe I really forgot in my rush? Damn this hunger.

"Mr. Whatever-you-are, you really look suspicious. Wandering around without an ID card... I might have to report this. Sorry."

Shit!!

"Ahhh please don't!! Anything but please don't report me. I'm really a student here! I really just forgot my ID in a hurry, and because I was starving, I just blurted whatever came to mind. Please believe me!" I pleaded while clasping my hands together.

Shit. I really did forget my student ID. Ah, my hunger, you little bastard. Because of you, I might actually die—and I'm not joking. If this woman really reports me to security, damn... my first day here will be my last day.

Everything was going smoothly—why the hell did I get tangled up like this here?

Sigh... my life...

"I don't believe you. There have been many like you who used this kind of excuse to get food free of cost. Do you guys take us for fools—"

Growll...

"..."

"..."

She looked at me. I looked at her.

The silence stretched for a few more seconds.

"Ah... okay, I'll bring my student ID. Sorry for the trouble..." Feeling embarrassed, I quickly decided to just run away... but—

"Wait! Are... you really that hungry?" she asked softly, her tone different this time. Instead of suspicion, there was a little worry in her eyes.

"Ah, no... it's just... actually I forgot to eat lunch and since then... I haven't eaten anything..." I answered in a low voice, though I avoided looking her in the eye.

"Then what about breakfast? I've never seen you here before. Where do you usually get your food?"

At that question, I fell completely silent. Not because I didn't want to answer... but because, 'I don't even know if this body ate breakfast. How do I explain that I really don't know?' So I just stayed quiet.

Maybe taking my silence as a 'no,' she sighed. "You brat. Skipping meals at your age—how will you survive at this academy if you don't eat properly? Whatever. Tell me what you want to eat."

"Ah... wait, let me bring my ID real quick—"

"Ha... no need. I'll make an exception. But only for today, and no more, got it?"

"..."

"Really?"
