Kiyomizu was pulled into a group chat. The group was composed of everyone who had voted for Kikyo Kushida. It included girls who were close to Kushida, like Kokoro Inogashira, as well as a few boys, like the usual suspects Haruki Yamauchi and Kanji Ike. Kiyotaka Ayanokoji was also in the group.
What surprised him, however, was that Mii-chan wasn't there. In his memory, Inogashira and Mii-chan were inseparable friends. Kushida also often chatted with them, and the three of them seemed to get along quite well. The friendships between girls were truly more subtle than one might imagine.
Just then, Kushida sent two messages to the group:
Kikyo Kushida: Thank you all so much for your votes~
Kikyo Kushida: By the way, I'm planning to go to karaoke after school today. Anyone who's free should come along!
At the same time, Kushida's cheerful voice came from the other side of the classroom. "Everyone has to come!" She was smiling and waving at a few classmates.
(Our Class D is visibly improving. We're already starting to form cliques.)
Kiyomizu silently rolled his eyes. With two leaders in Class D, it was inevitable that they would each have their own small groups.
Another message popped up in the group. Ike was already eagerly claiming which songs he would sing, while Yamauchi was trying to get Kushida to sing the latest love song.
"I'm not..."
Before Kiyomizu could finish typing his refusal, he suddenly caught a faint scent of jasmine. He turned sharply and found that Kushida had appeared behind him at some point. "Kiyomizu-kun, you should come too~ It's more fun with more people," she said, tilting her head slightly.
"Sorry, I have plans tonight!" Kiyomizu shook his head, declining. He had no time to go to karaoke with her right now. He still hadn't heard from Class B or Class C. Making a big business deal with the other classes was the real priority.
"...Is that so?" Kushida's smile froze for a moment. "That's a shame."
...
Of course, Kiyomizu wasn't just making an excuse; he really did have other business to attend to. He planned to take a trip to the student council office. This idea had first come from the boxing club captain, Satou's, earlier hint—"go check out the student council more often." As a senior from Third-Year Class A, Satou's words often held a hidden meaning, and his brief hints were all the more intriguing.
Walking down the hallway, Kiyomizu couldn't help but recall the special status of the student council in Japan. Unlike what one might imagine, the student council here held real power. Not only did it handle all sorts of disputes between students, but in some matters, its authority even surpassed that of the homeroom teachers. For example, if students got into a fight or caused trouble, it was entirely up to the student council to handle it. The homeroom teachers could only stand by their students and say a few words in their defense.
Based on his impression from last night, Manabu Horikita seemed to be a rigid and formal type, which made him a bit worried about whether he would agree to his request.
When he arrived at the student council office, he found a few people already waiting in line. The girl standing in front of him had blue hair and an aura that reminded Kiyomizu of a sharp, cold weapon. But before he could think more on it, the line started moving quickly. Soon, it was the blue-haired girl's turn.
Standing at the office door, Kiyomizu could vaguely hear a heated conversation inside—"violent incident!" "does it only count if it's caught on camera?" "many people have been injured!" "you're not going to do anything? is this even a normal school?"
Just a few minutes later, the office door was thrown open. The blue-haired girl stormed out with a dark expression, slamming the door shut with a loud bang that made the notice board on the wall tremble.
"Next!"
A commanding male voice came from inside the student council office. Only then did Kiyomizu pull his gaze away from the blue-haired girl in the hallway, straighten his collar, and gently push open the student council door.
A few student council officers were busy at their posts. At the president's desk in the deepest part of the room sat a composed man wearing silver-rimmed glasses. It was the student council president he had met last night, Manabu Horikita. He deliberately scanned every corner of the room but couldn't find the vice president. According to the rumors, Vice President Nagumo had blond hair.
(Looks like he's not in the student council office today.)
"Please close the door."
Kiyomizu's attention was drawn to the voice. A purple-haired girl with her hair in a fluffy bun was standing next to the student council president, looking at him with a somewhat cold expression. "Alright."
The lock clicked softly. The moment he turned around, Kiyomizu recognized her—this must be the rumored student council secretary, Akane Tachibana-senpai.
"Hello," Tachibana said, closing the file in her hand. "What brings you to the student council today?"
"I hope the student council can act as a third-party guarantor to ensure the security of a transaction between myself and a student from another class," Kiyomizu said, looking directly at Manabu Horikita, his tone crisp and direct.
This unexpected request clearly took Tachibana by surprise. She widened her eyes slightly. "A... guarantor?"
Manabu, however, maintained his signature composure. "Let's discuss this in the meeting room, Kiyomizu-kun." After saying this, the president turned and walked towards the student council's meeting room.
Tachibana's steps suddenly faltered. She turned around. "Kiyomizu-kun... have you and the president met before?"
Sensing the probing nature of her question, Kiyomizu thought for a moment and then met her gaze frankly. "You could say that. I'm deskmates with his sister, Suzune Horikita. We've met once."
"I see..." Tachibana murmured, falling into a brief thought. "The president has a sister..." A moment later, she reverted to her usual cool expression. "Sorry to have kept you. Please follow me."
Kiyomizu slowly stepped into the meeting room and calmly took a seat across from Manabu Horikita. A brief silence filled the room, broken only by the regular ticking of the wall clock.
"I'm curious," Manabu suddenly broke the silence. "Why did you come to the student council?"
Kiyomizu looked up slightly. "I plan to sell information and equipment rental rights to other classes. Because the transaction amount is large, I need to ensure that the contract between both parties is properly executed. Simply put—I need a guarantor that no one would dare to default on."
"So, you plan to make a deal with Kakeru Ryuen from First-Year Class C, but you're worried he'll default and use violence, and not pay the points, so you came to the student council for help?" Manabu's gaze swept over his profile, his tone more of a statement than a question.
"Strictly speaking, I'm just worried he'll cheat me out of the points," Kiyomizu paused. "As for violence... I'm not particularly concerned about that myself. President, can you accept my request? After all, in this school, points should be able to buy anything."
"I can," Manabu's fingertips tapped on the desk. "The student council can help you hide your identity and will also provide a corresponding standardized contract and performance guarantee to ensure the transaction proceeds normally. The condition is that 5% of your personal points from the transaction will be deducted. This portion will be paid to the school, similar to taxes in society."
Without hesitation, Kiyomizu nodded in agreement. "Acceptable."
