"He won't even hear what I have to say," I whispered, sniffing back the hot tears that prick the corner of my eyes.
My heart clenched in pain as I thought of the reason he was cold to me. Aria. It was because of her. I had seen her in the arena today and tried to distract Kaiden. That worked. But in return, he snapped at me and disregarded my feelings. This wasn't the first time.
I met with Kaiden the moment I arrived at the black moon pack, but we weren't close until he helped me fight off some of the bigger kids picking on me. I was only ten at that time, and Kaiden was fifteen.
"Hey, Lizard! Over here." Someone shouted, followed by a whack on my head. I winced, staring at the pebble that had hit me on the ground, before looking up at the boy. He was a kid, a bit on the heavy side with a blotchy face and a little older than I was.
"Isn't she that freak's stepsister? A ginger and a lizard, what would that make?" A friend of his grinned, eyes twinkling with mischief.
