Ezrik glared at the professor as they followed him into his office, Navian and Quinn trailing close behind. The moment Remi gestured for them to sit, Ezrik remained standing, arms crossed, while Navian dropped lazily onto the couch, crossing one leg over the other and shoving his hands into his hoodie pockets.
"I don't see why you had to drag us in here, Professor Remi," Ezrik said flatly, his stare hard.
Remi only smiled. That calm, irritatingly pleasant smile. "Because it's compulsory. The Genesis Academy Ascendants will crush you otherwise."
Ezrik snorted. "They wish."
Navian glanced at him. "Do you know something about this, Veyne?"
Ezrik turned his glare on him. "Why would I know anything about an unwanted competition?"
Navian didn't answer, just gave him that unreadable look. It was calm, too calm. The kind that made Ezrik feel seen in ways he didn't like.
"What?" Ezrik demanded. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
