Lyra's POV
I've been watching them.
I notice the broad smile on her face, and I see how they spend time conversing. I can't hear them, but the conversation seems meaningful. The change in their expressions tells me so—it's not constant, shifting whenever new issues come up between them.
I can't recall the last time I had such a conversation with Cassian. He's let everything between us grow cold.
The last time we had such a conversation must have been when he promised to make me his mate. Of course, we wanted to see if the connection would strike naturally between us.
But things aren't in good shape. His curse needs a cure.
Things would have still gone as planned.
Not until Elara showed up.
All my efforts to be with him… wasted?
"Lyra…"
I raise my gaze to see him standing at the door.
His footsteps are so quiet I don't even notice when he opens it.
I sit upright on the bed. "Cassian."
