Steve sleeps in his burlap sack on the wooden floor. He'd felt a nudge and opened his eyes to look at Maxwell leaning over him.
"We need to try to escape the camp." Maxwell's expression was hard.
Steve shook his head. "No. It's too dangerous. We'll get killed for trying to escape."
"Steve! It's worth the risk! The reform is overcrowded with people, and we're at risk of starvation!"
"But where would we go?" Steve's eyes widened.
"To Anua. It's a safe country to live in. It's just across the border from here."
"I don't know." Steve scratched his head. "Is it safer to try to escape by trying to sneak on a boat?"
"No. I've known you heard the rumours of Jared escaping the campgrounds. However, the boats aren't coming back here because of the destruction of the wheat fields. Cascadia can't make money from trades with other countries in wheat. So, this is our only option when it comes to trying to escape the camp."
"There are too many guards patrolling the area." Steve shook his head.
"Steve, sometimes you gotta take risks in life. We'll leave in the middle of the night, so it's harder for the guards to spot us." Maxwell said.
"Alright," Steve said. "Let's try to escape together and get out of this hellhole."
