Chapter 220 - Big Sis' Go-To Shield Axe

Now, the armor fabrication was complete.

The remaining materials belonged to the highest quality tier. According to Andrew's calculations, they were completely sufficient to support the crafting of a complete weapon.

And speaking of Diablos's well-known weapons... it was undoubtedly the Great Sword crafted from the Diablos's massive horns.

If reinforced to the limit, one could even add materials from its subspecies, the Black Diablos, to merge and create the Cera Cymmetry, a weapon resembling a double-bladed battle axe.

With the extreme weight of the Diablos and Black Diablos materials, combined with the unparalleled sturdiness of their hard horns... as long as one could lift it and use it as a Great Sword, then under the blessing of that weight, the weapon itself would be enough to represent the ultimate violence held in one's hands.

With a single swing, all surrounding objects would be instantly shredded beneath its thick, heavy blade edge.

Not cut in two.

But razed to the ground by the ultimate violence brought about by sheer weight.

It could be said that although this weapon didn't have any elemental damage, relying solely on pure raw stats, it became the most universally applicable one among the weapons Diablos could produce.

So when Andrew mentioned crafting a Diablos weapon, his first reaction was to think of this one.

However, Andrew soon discovered a very awkward fact.

That was... the initial Diablos Great Sword, in the final analysis, was basically just sticking a rod into a broken Diablos horn. It was completed just like that.

It was so rugged it gave people the feeling that the workshop was slacking off.

And the subsequent Cera Cymmetry Great Sword required the horns of a Diablos and a Black Diablos to be combined and polished together. This was a bit awkward.

After all, a Diablos definitely only had one pair of large horns.

Leaving aside the fact that the original pair of large horns had already been turned into the armor's pauldrons by Andrew, the horns of that specific Diablos had already become twisted themselves.

Even if he had saved them to craft the Cera Cymmetry, they would probably only turn into some grotesque shape.

As for the normally required Black Diablos materials, that wasn't too big of an issue for Andrew.

After all, the main reason Black Diablos materials were needed was that when a female Diablos turned black due to pregnancy, the strength of the shell and horns on her body would increase significantly.

And that Diablos he encountered during the concert... as an individual stepping onto the path of a Deviant, even if there was still a considerable distance from the complete form, the strength of the materials on its body was not something a Black Diablos could compare to.

So using them as a substitute was absolutely no problem.

But if he didn't make a Great Sword, what weapon to make instead actually put Andrew in a difficult spot.

Relying on materials of this strength, the Lance was actually also very compatible.

But the problem was, Andrew already had the Odogaron's "Otherworldly Rotary Fire" Lance.

Although it couldn't compare to the thickness and sturdiness of Diablos materials, as a weapon whose blueprint technology had completely matured, its strength in terms of protection and combat could be said to be more than enough.

Under the circumstances where the two weapons couldn't open up a qualitative gap, using the already scarce materials to craft a duplicate Lance was really a bit too extravagant.

After all, in New Eridu, a place where there were no Hunters using other weapons to coordinate with, and no one to borrow from if he encountered a need for other weapon types... and considering he would likely have to run around everywhere for a good while to search for and hunt various monsters that had run from the Monster Hunter world to New Eridu...

The Diablos armor itself was already extremely thick and heavy. If he used a Lance on top of that, he wouldn't be able to move quickly at all. At that time, he wouldn't be able to catch up to those small monsters that might exist.

He feared he would only be able to stare helplessly at those monsters.

And the Insect Glaive had the same problem. Without a Kinsect, the Insect Glaive was almost equivalent to severing one's own arm; one's strength could at most only be exerted to sixty percent.

So crafting an Insect Glaive was similarly a waste of these already scarce materials.

The Bow and Bowgun also had a fatal flaw. That was ammunition.

Although the Bowgun already had avenues to obtain ammo, until the Ancient Tree sprouted, there was an incomparably huge deficit in the Honey and Bitterbug fluids needed for crafting.

It was simply impossible to spare capacity to produce ammo.

As for the planted Blastnuts, just expanding the planting scale would take at least half a month to start. By the time enough ammo was produced to satisfy combat needs, could it be that he would just watch helplessly as those monsters that ran over from the Monster Hunter world did as they pleased during that period?

Hunt once, rest for three days, and tell the monsters to come back and invade in three days? If something really happened, they wouldn't wait.

And the Bow went without saying; there wasn't even a way to acquire the arrows needed. Suitable materials for crafting them hadn't been found up to now either.

As things stood, only two relatively suitable types remained selectable: The Sword and Shield (SnS) and the Charge Blade.

But at this juncture, Andrew instead made a decision very quickly. That was the Charge Blade.

Although the SnS was much simpler and more brain-dead than the Charge Blade, whether in terms of crafting difficulty or subsequent usage difficulty, a higher skill floor often meant the skill ceiling wouldn't be too high either.

Moreover, compared to the Great Sword, which was also a heavy weapon, although the Charge Blade was similarly a heavy weapon, its agility in Sword Mode didn't lose out to the SnS at all.

The shield, which was a size larger than the SnS's, not only wouldn't waste the sturdy characteristics belonging to the Diablos materials, but its defensive area and capabilities were also much stronger.

Its combined Super Amped Element Discharge (SAED) was one of the Hunter's strongest output methods.

"Big Sis AED, Second Sis ED II, Super Sis SAED... Electric Sis, Sword Sis, Aerial Discharge (Mistake)..."

A full combo set had a wide variety of tricks.

If used properly, among all Hunter weapon types, this could already be said to be an incomparably powerful weapon. It could be said to be a weapon second only to the Long Sword (Confirmed).

As for why it was only "second to"... That was because for a Long Sword user, in his heart, no weapon could compare to the Long Sword! This was the stubbornness belonging to every Long Sword user!

However, while the Charge Blade's extremely high ceiling was good, an extremely high ceiling often also meant its floor would become extremely low.

Placing a Charge Blade in the hands of many Hunters who couldn't use it proficiently, the process was basically...

Slash, slash, slash, load phials.

Slash, slash, slash, charge Red Shield.

Then slash, slash, slash, and unleash the damn thing.

Then the SAED whiffs.

Finally, shouting a loud "GG!" on the Cart, followed by the quest reward being instantly reduced by one-third.

But for Andrew, who could be said to be proficient in all weapons under the Sapphire Star's drilling, such a situation inevitably would not happen. And without the drawbacks, the benefits of the Charge Blade naturally didn't need much explanation.

Thinking of this, Andrew got to work immediately.

Using the Diablos's heavy bones as the foundation, paired with Ether Alloy to craft the most basic frame, he then added the Diablos shell and began the step-by-step polishing and assembly.

As a transformable weapon, the complexity of crafting the Charge Blade was a large cut above the previous Lance.

And this time, Andrew didn't slack off by choosing a universal template. Instead, he similarly chose to use the crafting method of the "Magic Diablos" Charge Blade weapon he had seen in the ancient records before to create a custom version.

Unlike the Diablos Charge Blade weapons made from universal templates fitted with different monster materials back in the New World... the weapon crafted according to the blueprints designed to perfectly display the material's strength could be said to be incomparably hideous and handsome.

It could be said to complement the Diablos armor on Andrew's body perfectly.

The styling of the Charge Blade's shield belonged to the same style as the Odogaron's "Otherworldly Rotary Fire". In Andrew's hands, it was like a Diablos head that was only one size smaller.

And that sword paired with the shield imitated the shape of the Diablos's spine from head to back. In Andrew's hands, it looked just as if Andrew had extracted that segment of the spine and turned it into the longsword in his hand.

As for the sword tip, it used the Diablos's most massive fangs. After splitting the fangs horizontally in half and polishing them until sharp, they were crafted into the front end of the sword.

As fangs that not only assisted in combat but also constantly helped crush hard rocks during digging, the hardness of this pair of fangs was on par with the Diablos's large horns.

Even because they were essentially teeth, although the toughness might be a bit worse, they would be even superior in terms of hardness.

Coupled with their moderate size, using them as the sword tip of the Charge Blade could be said to be perfect.

And when the two combined into Axe Mode, accompanied by the axe blade popping out as a shield, it was just like the Diablos had resurrected. Accompanied by the hissing of the sword blade sliding past the slot in the shield during the popup... the Charge Blade was like a Diablos extending its head, beginning to stretch its body.

Hideous yet handsome.

As for who to give the remaining secondary materials to, that instead put Andrew in a difficult spot. After all, even if they were lower-grade materials, their unparalleled thickness meant that not a single person around Andrew could attempt to wear them.

Even if its defense was countless times stronger than other armors.

But the problem was still the same problem. Where could he find an existence comparable to "Humanoid Platinum" to wear this suit of armor?

At least Andrew was truly clueless right now. He couldn't really just pile them up here, right?

After thinking it over and not finding a suitable candidate to wear it, Andrew couldn't help but sigh, scratching his head with a bit of helplessness. It seemed these materials could only be used when he met a suitable predestined person later.

But no matter what, the full set of equipment had been completely crafted.

Looking at the equipment in front of him, Andrew also let out a long sigh of relief. Although the time seemed quite short, whether it was the crafting of that incomparably heavy armor, or the Charge Blade weapon which was of the highest level in terms of crafting complexity... plus adding Meow-Da's equipment, which, although not particularly complex, also took quite a lot of time...

With all these things stacked together, it was simply not something that could be settled in a short time.

The previous Odogaron set had already taken Andrew two days and two nights, and this time the Diablos equipment took more than triple that directly.

By the time it was thoroughly completed, a look at the date showed it had cost Andrew a full seven days to thoroughly finish.

However, although he spent so much time, Andrew wasn't purely hammering iron in the Seliana Smithy during this period.

Among all the armor pieces, the first thing Andrew crafted was the Diablos Helm. On the day he started crafting, Andrew took the newly made helm and went out to hunt together with Meow-Da, who had found some small monsters.

And because the traces Meow-Da found were all small monsters like Jagras, the original armor couldn't be worn out because it was easy to get surrounded and watched, and the weapon was the same logic.

But in order not to expose his identity to the public... after thinking for a bit, Andrew simply wore just a helmet. He didn't wear any armor on his body, just wearing daily casual clothes, and went out preparing to hunt.

The weapon he used was even the Hunter's Knife usually used for carving materials.

Even so, when hunting those small monsters, Andrew couldn't help but feel it was a bit of overkill. If not for the habit that "even small materials are still materials," coupled with the fact that using fists would cause material damage, Andrew felt he could totally beat these small mobs to death with two punches directly.

But using a small knife also had the disadvantages of using a small knife. That was, at such a short distance, no matter how careful he was when hunting, Andrew would always get stained with some blood spraying out after stabbing.

This led to Andrew's hands always looking bloody after every hunting battle ended, making Andrew, who needed to cook, wash his hands for a long time before cooking that day.

However, this situation improved quite a bit the next day after the gauntlets were made. Because even if blood got on him, it was only on the armor. Simultaneously, because of the armor's own seal, the blood wouldn't flow inside.

So he only needed to wash the gauntlets.

Then the next day was the Greaves, the day after that was the Waist armor, and the last day was the most troublesome and tedious Chest armor.

It was just that... what made Andrew involuntarily feel a bit strange was this: At first, some people would excitedly try to take photos with their phones from a distance when they saw him hunting.

But as time went on, more and more people's first reaction when seeing him hunting turned into taking a picture and running away. This made Andrew a bit unable to make heads or tails of it.

You know, Andrew also often went out wearing armor before, and the previous Odogaron armor was also quite hideous. But no matter what, it didn't reach this extent, right?

Or could it be that the styling of the Bloodbath Diablos armor was too hideous, so it caused others to be scared when they saw it?

Saying this, Andrew carefully examined himself in the mirror.

Clearly, it felt more handsome!

Where was it terrifying!

The previous few times he had become the object of others' praise, but this time he became an existence everyone avoided, making Andrew a bit unaccustomed to it. But after thinking for half a day, Andrew still didn't have the slightest clue.

Sure enough, it was still too weird!

However, as the weapon was crafted, Andrew also temporarily paused the subjugation of the invading monsters.

With Meow-Da coordinating with the Scoutflies, plus the search and positioning of the Legendary Proxy's H.D.D System, all the invading small monsters had been cleared almost completely clean by Andrew.

Afterwards, it was waiting for Belle to conduct analysis based on this data, and then try to see if she could locate the spatial rifts that still existed.

And now. Since the weapon for hunting had already been made, it was also time to start hunting large monsters.

Just right. Recently, Meow-Da collected some traces left on the ground by something resembling an extra-large bat. Coupled with the fact that many fruits on the surrounding fruit trees had traces of being gnawed on...

Andrew had already roughly guessed who the monster that unluckily strayed in here was this time.

It was the monster that appeared and was active in the Coral Highlands—The Paolumu.
