High above the Ashen Plains, the void groaned under the pressure of two colliding titans.
Rehan's Twin Death Swords pressed mercilessly against Lord Ghost Demon's hardened shadow claws. The golden-emerald resonance hummed with terrifying density, threatening to shear straight through the demon monarch's dense void armor.
Lord Ghost Demon's crimson eyes narrowed, but a sinister, jagged grin split his shadowy face.
"You possess raw power, boy... but your mortal heart is tethered to fragile threads," Lord Ghost Demon whispered, his voice splintering into hundreds of disorienting, illusory echoes that bypassed Rehan's physical ears and resonated directly inside his mind.
"Mind Sovereign Art: Phantom Mirage of the Severed Soul!"
VUMMMM—!
A subtle, microscopic ripple distorted Rehan's spatial perception. For less than a hundredth of a second, an illusion flashed before Rehan's vision—the phantom figure of Morath weeping over Sarya's lifeless body, blending seamlessly into an image of Ishita falling into pools of blood.
The momentary cognitive dissonance caused Rehan's twin blades to waver for a fraction of an inch.
That fraction was all the primordial monarch needed.
Lord Ghost Demon's lower shadow arms whipped forward, striking Rehan's chest with a concentrated burst of kinetic Nether lightning. The shockwave detonated at point-blank range, sending Rehan hurtling across the stratosphere, tearing through miles of clouds before stabilizing his momentum with his phantom arm.
The Catastrophe on the Plains
Down below, the battle had reached a lethal turning point.
Taking advantage of the shockwave that shook the entire dimensional floor, Kaelthar went completely berserk. The six-eyed demon sacrificed his remaining bone armor to ignite his own lifeforce, erupting with blinding, toxic purple flames.
"Die, human wall!" Kaelthar shrieked.
"Abyssal Execution: Triple Mountain Cleaver!"
Kaelthar blurred into a feral phantom, swinging his colossal bone-cleaver three times in the span of a single heartbeat.
Zahir planted his boots into the shattered bedrock, bringing his heavy broadsword up in a desperate parry.
CLANG! CRACK! BOOOOOOM!
The first strike shattered Zahir's cerulean defensive aura. The second fractured the blade of his broadsword down the middle. The third struck Zahir directly across the chestplate with catastrophic force.
"GAAAH!"
Zahir coughed out a torrent of crimson blood as his heavy armor caved inward, fracturing multiple ribs. The violent kinetic blast threw him violently across the dirt, slamming his body through three massive stone pillars before he crashed heavily into the earth, motionless in a pool of his own blood.
"ZAHIR!" Ishita screamed in sheer terror, running forward as tears streamed down her face.
Kaelthar didn't even spare a glance at the fallen vanguard. He dragged his blood-soaked cleaver along the scorched soil, his six burning crimson eyes locking onto the defenseless healer.
"A healer..." Kaelthar hissed, his fangs dripping with acidic saliva as he took slow, menacing strides toward Ishita. "First I will snap your limbs one by one... then I will bathe in your radiant blood while your friends watch from above!"
Ishita's hands trembled as she erected a radiant golden barrier, but her exhausted spiritual reserves caused the light to flicker like a dying candle in a violent storm.
Kaelthar raised his massive cleaver high into the air, ready to bring down total execution.
High in the sky, Rehan's eyes widened with pure fury as he prepared to descend at absolute terminal velocity: "ISHITA!"
"Don't you dare look away from me, boy!" Lord Ghost Demon's shadow materialized instantly in front of Rehan, his massive void claws sweeping forward to intercept and lock Rehan in the sky.
On the ground, Kaelthar laughed maniacally, muscles coiling to chop Ishita in half.
From the rubble behind the demon, a trembling, bloodied hand gripped the broken hilt of a broadsword.
Slowly, painfully, Zahir dragged himself out of the crushed stone. His face was soaked in crimson; his chest was mangled; his legs shook under the sheer agony of torn tendons.
He looked at Kaelthar approaching Ishita. He looked at the sky where Rehan was momentarily locked in combat.
A deep, absolute stillness washed over Zahir's eyes. The pain, the exhaustion, the fear—all of it vanished, replaced by the resolute calm of a man who had reached the edge of his mortal destiny.
"There's no other way left..." Zahir murmured under his breath, his voice devoid of doubt.
He raised his bleeding left hand, slamming his palm directly onto the center of his own shattered heart.
A suffocating, ancient pressure suddenly descended upon the entire battlefield. The air stopped moving. The ground ceased to tremble. A terrifying, blinding azure-crimson pillar of forbidden spiritual flame began to ignite deep within the marrow of Zahir's soul.
Every single entity on the plains froze.
Ishita turned her head, her eyes widening in pure horror.
Even high in the sky, Lord Ghost Demon paused mid-strike, his crimson void eyes trembling in sheer, unadulterated shock as he sensed the apocalyptic, forbidden technique awakening from a mere mortal vanguard.
Zahir glared at Kaelthar's back, his voice dropping into a low, terrifying growl that resonated through the fabric of the dimension:
"Forbidden Vanguard Secret Art: Heavenly Gate of the Iron Asura..."
