The world went dead, hollow, and silent.
The sound of the wind, the crackle of dark lightning, the grinding of tectonic plates—everything vanished beneath the overwhelming, deafening ringing inside Rehan's skull.
Ishita hung suspended on the massive, jagged void-steel blade, her frail body trembling. Drops of her warm, gold-flecked blood dripped steadily onto the cold volcanic earth below, splashing against the toes of Rehan's boots.
Lord Ghost Demon's crimson void eyes widened slightly in surprise, before a sickening, mocking sneer spread across his shadowy visage. With a callous, violent jerk of his claws, the demon monarch ripped the colossal execution blade backward out of Ishita's chest.
SHRKKK!
A fountain of radiant crimson sprayed into the air as Ishita fell forward, collapsing like a severed flower onto the shattered ground directly between Rehan's chained feet.
"A fragile shield throwing itself away for a dead god," Lord Ghost Demon whispered, stepping back as he watched her lifeforce drain into the earth. "How delightfully pointless."
"ISHITA!"
Rehan's scream was no longer human. It was the roar of an enraged, broken god whose world had just burned to ash.
CRACK—BANG!
The four corrupted Asura chains binding his wrists and ankles turned boiling red as Rehan's soul detonated from within. Driven by unadulterated agony and despair, his Zenith Sovereign Domain flared with suicidal intensity. The immense soul pressure pulverized the blackened iron links into microscopic dust, freeing his limbs in an explosive burst of golden-emerald shockwaves.
Rehan fell to his knees in the dirt, his trembling hands reaching out to catch Ishita before her head struck the jagged obsidian stone.
He cradled her upper body against his chest, his hands glowing with a frantic, desperate aura of green-gold Life-Reversal Authority.
"No, no, no... stay with me! Look at me, Ishita!" Rehan cried, tears of pure anguish streaming down his face, burning trails through the soot and ash on his cheeks. "I have the Death God's healing... I can reverse the rot... I can fix this! Please, just hold on!"
He poured his divine vitality into her shattered sternum, but the necrotic curse of the execution blade had severed the spiritual anchors of her soul. The golden light simply slipped through her wound, dissipating into the cold air like mist.
Ishita looked up at him through half-lidded, fading eyes. She saw the tears spilling from the boy who had always stood invincible before the cosmos—the boy who had carried the sky on his shoulders without ever asking for help.
Slowly, painfully, Ishita raised a blood-stained, trembling hand, her delicate fingers gently touching Rehan's tear-streaked cheek.
"Don't cry... Rehan..." she whispered, her voice barely a breath, fragile and soft like falling snow. "Please... don't cry for me..."
"Why did you do that?!" Rehan sobbed, his voice breaking completely as he pressed her fading hand against his face. "Why did you jump in front of the blade?! You were supposed to stay behind me!"
A weak, heartbreakingly beautiful smile touched Ishita's pale lips.
"I'm sorry..." she choked softly, fresh blood welling in the corner of her mouth. "I'm so sorry... because of my weakness... you and Zahir had to bleed so much... I couldn't protect anyone... I was only a burden..."
"You were never a burden! You were our light, Ishita! Don't say that!"
Ishita's golden eyes shimmered with an infinite, tender warmth, looking into the depths of Rehan's soul for the very last time.
"Thank you... Rehan..." she murmured, her breathing growing shallow, her heartbeat slowing to a faint, erratic flutter. "Thank you for protecting me across every battlefield... thank you for giving me a reason to fight... and for letting me stand beside you..."
Her fingers began to lose their warmth against his skin.
"In this life... I never had the courage to say it..." Ishita breathed, a single tear slipping from her eye and mixing with the blood on her cheek. "...I love you, Rehan. Live... please... live..."
Her hand slipped from his cheek, falling limp onto the dark stone.
The radiant gold light within her eyes dimmed, flickering out into eternal stillness.
Ishita was gone.
Rehan froze. He held her lifeless body tightly against his chest, burying his face in her hair as the quiet, hollow wail of an utterly broken soul tore through his lungs.
Behind him, the air began to boil with an ancient, apocalyptic thirst.
