Leonard could feel the terrifying presence in the well; he certainly didn't want to wake it and even less wished to confront it.
So, he thought it would be prudent not to disturb this thing.
However, Duke disagreed: "We appeared here, most likely because of its tricks. Why do you think it brought us here?"
The presence in the well was clearly developing and growing, and Duke and his companions were most likely its nourishment.
"Besides, I think it can't be that powerful, or it wouldn't have only dragged the four of us in," Duke said.
After all, Black Oak Town had plenty of slave creatures, including four Level 2 slave creatures.
If this presence were truly powerful, why not drag those four Level 2 slave creatures in as well and gain more nutrients?
Therefore, Duke believed they needed to act quickly rather than passively waiting.
Even though it involved some risk, it was worth trying; watching it slowly grow stronger from here was certainly unwise.
