His voice wasn't loud, but in the quiet coffee shop, Serena Sutton still heard him.
She raised her head a little awkwardly and giggled at Caleb Lockwood.
She hadn't expected her disguise to fail this badly. She'd even specially borrowed a sports hoodie and sweatpants from Ginger Sloan, thinking she could blend in. Who knew Dr. Lockwood would be this sharp.
"Hehehe, how did you find out?" Serena took off her cap and asked curiously.
Right after, she hurried to explain, face not red, heart not racing, "I didn't specifically follow you here. My roommates said this place has great coffee, so I came to try it, and pick up some for them on the way back."
Even she didn't really believe that excuse.
Caleb had told her not to come, and she'd still secretly tailed him over. He wouldn't be mad, right?
"It's not just me. They probably saw you too. Your act wasn't convincing." The man's tone carried a hint of helplessness as he helped straighten her hair.
