Chapter 17 - Cloth Coupon from Fourth Aunt

Xu Mumu held the two kids' homework, and they both felt a bit nervous, as if facing their sister was like facing the principal for the first time.

Xu Mumu looked at the homework they had done. No matter right or wrong, at least they had written something, and this made her satisfied.

As for the results, well, no wonder they are good brothers—they got everything wrong together.

"You don't know any of this?" Xu Mumu looked at the two scared kids. These two probably hadn't even memorized the multiplication table. Fortunately, they were only in third grade, so there was still time to teach them. If they waited until middle or high school to catch up, that would be a headache.

"Nope." The two nodded honestly, admitting they didn't know, as during class they were either whispering or playing.

"You both have the same amount of mistakes, so you'll split these chestnuts later. But whoever learns first will get them first," Xu Mumu said calmly.

To be the first to eat the candied chestnuts, the two kids were quite serious. At least they understood what Xu Mumu taught them.

Xu Minglei had a slight edge and got to eat the candied chestnuts first.

Watching the two enjoy their chestnuts happily, Xu Mumu silently calculated the money she had. It seemed that food could motivate these two to study, but apart from eating at school, she didn't have much left. She needed to find a way to earn more money.

Xu Mumu let the two kids go play on their own while she returned to her room to think about how to make money.

She didn't have any capital or anything to sell. She wasn't Xu Xue and didn't have the female protagonist's good luck to risk anything in the black market; people would surely be caught there. Better not to get involved.

Therefore, making money became a somewhat troublesome issue.

Racking her brain, Xu Mumu couldn't think of a good idea. It seemed there were scholarships at school, which was worth striving for, but that was still a few months away before the end of the term—rather far off.

For now, she had no clue how to make money.

When Xu Xue got home, she saw Xu Mumu tutoring Xu Minglei and Tiedan with their homework.

This made Xu Xue look at Xu Mumu twice. Although she had only been reborn for two days, the Xu Mumu she saw now seemed like a completely different person from the one in her memory.

While feeding the chickens, Xu Xue pondered about Xu Mumu. Given Xu Mumu's past dislike for her, she probably wouldn't behave as if she didn't see her now. This made Xu Xue suspect whether this Xu Mumu was the original one.

Focused on earning money, Xu Mumu didn't notice Xu Xue's doubts, and even if she did, she wouldn't care.

Xu Mumu scratched her head; earning money wasn't something she could solve immediately. There were too many restrictions in this era.

At the dinner table, it was still sweet potato porridge with various wild vegetables, but Li Caixia proudly bragged about her daughter, saying how capable she was, even helping her brother with his homework, with Xu Hai chiming in.

Sure enough, with the praise from Li Caixia and her husband, the old couple looked at Xu Mumu with even softer eyes.

"My sister is really something," Xu Minghui said with a smile, holding a wild vegetable pancake in his hand.

Watching everyone boast about her, Xu Mumu felt a bit embarrassed.

"Mumu, can you also teach our Little Tao and Jiaojiao next time?" Sun Huiping asked, looking at Xu Mumu. Xu Jiaojiao and Xu Tao were also eight this year, preparing to attend the village school later this year.

Sun Huiping hoped her children could learn more from Xu Mumu.

"Teaching Minglei is already tiring enough for Mumu, teaching two would be even more exhausting," Li Caixia first objected.

"Mom, if Fourth Aunt wants Little Tao and Jiaojiao to learn, I can teach them while teaching Minglei," Xu Mumu reassured her mother.

Xu Jiaojiao and Xu Tao were more obedient than Xu Minglei. After all, they were cousins; even if relations weren't good with the second family, maintaining a good relationship with the fourth was good too.

"Really, thanks, Mumu." Sun Huiping gratefully looked at Xu Mumu, "Hurry and thank your big sister."

"Thank you, big sister," Xu Jiaojiao and Xu Tao obediently greeted her.

Xu Xue watched calmly. None of this concerned the second family. She only wanted to split the family now; living here felt suffocating to her.

But there was no opportunity, and even after returning to her room, Xu Xue was still pondering how to divide the family.

Suddenly, Xu Xue remembered something important: her third uncle wasn't one to be trifled with either. Perhaps when he returned next time, that would be a good opportunity.

Finally, a faint smile appeared on Xu Xue's face. While nothing had happened yet, it was approaching, and she had to prepare soon.

"Sister, I want to study with big sister too," Xu Wan's voice came, very softly.

"What do you want to learn? I can teach you," Xu Xue said gently, looking at her younger sister. Despite losing a lot of money being deceived by that man in her last life, she did learn quite a bit from him.

After splitting the family, she planned to try to exchange some stuff to make money, then buy a set of textbooks, since there was just over a year until the college entrance exam, and she needed to start preparing.

"Really, you know how?" Xu Wan looked at Xu Xue in confusion. They had only studied for a year, learning only some common words and numbers, not much else.

"Yes, I do," Xu Xue nodded firmly.

This life, she would not only change her fate but her family's too. She wanted to earn money, and her younger sister, still little, needed to go to school. Coming from the future, she naturally knew the importance of education.

Once she could do business, she intended to involve her family too.

The two sisters whispered in their room while Xu Mumu prepared to return to her room when Sun Huiping stealthily handed her a ticket.

Xu Mumu didn't refuse; she knew Fourth Aunt wanted her to pay more attention when teaching Xu Jiaojiao and Xu Tao.

The ticket was for a yard of cloth, not much use, so Xu Mumu turned around and headed to Li Caixia's room.

"Mumu, why are you here?" Xu Hai asked, puzzled, seeing his daughter.

"Mom, Fourth Aunt gave me this just now; you keep it," Xu Mumu handed the ticket to Li Caixia.

"Sun Huiping does have some sense," Li Caixia's eyes lit up. Cloth tickets were valuable; she had saved some, planning to get some fabric to make new clothes and pants for her daughter.
