Chapter 25 - Chapter 23: Wei Yu, Paralyzed for Life

Cheng Jingxue and the people from Iron Forging Manor had already run away without a trace.

In the hall, only the trembling inn servants and the members of Changlong Escort Agency were left.

Luo Qiang's face was livid, clearly enraged by Cheng Jingxue's manipulation and the tyranny of Iron Forging Manor.

"Ya, we have you to thank this time!" Luo Qiang said to Zhao Ya.

He had witnessed the earlier scene; if Zhao Ya hadn't reacted quickly and kicked the table away, few of them would have been able to stand and speak now.

At the same time, the porters realized this too and thanked Zhao Ya one after another.

Zhao Ya waved his hand, "We're all brothers sharing the same pot, no need for thanks. Let's quickly see how Wei Yu is doing!"

This reminder brought everyone back, and Luo Qiang hurried to Wei Yu's side to check on him.

By this time, Wei Yu had already regained consciousness, but he still couldn't get up. He could only look at Luo Qiang with pleading and guilty eyes.

"Uncle Luo..."

Luo Qiang waved his hand, "No need to talk, healing is the most important thing right now."

As he spoke, he took out a small medicine bottle from his pocket, poured out a pill, and fed it to Wei Yu.

A moment later, Wei Yu felt a warm flow rising from his abdomen, significantly alleviating the pain in his chest, stomach, and back.

Wei Yu breathed a sigh of relief and struggled to sit up, but to his horror, he found that his body from the chest down was completely unresponsive.

In disbelief, he pinched his thigh, yet he felt nothing.

In an instant, Wei Yu's face turned as pale as paper.

"Uncle Luo, what's happening to me? Why can't I feel anything in my legs?"

The porters also gathered around at this point, all shocked by Wei Yu's words.

Luo Qiang, however, remained calm.

"It's nothing, probably just injured your tendons and bones. Resting for a few days will make it better."

"Really? Uncle Luo, are you sure?" Wei Yu, as if grabbing onto a lifeline, desperately asked Luo Qiang.

But instead of directly answering, Luo Qiang turned to the inn servant, "Could you please bring a large wooden plank?"

"Sure!" The servant replied and hurried out.

In no time, the servant returned carrying a door panel, "Chief Luo, will this do?"

"Yes, two of you lift Wei Yu onto the plank, and be careful not to shake him at all."

Two porters stepped forward, gently lifting Wei Yu from the floor and carefully placing him on the door panel.

"Uncle Luo, will my legs really recover?" Wei Yu asked fearfully.

Just during the lifting process, Wei Yu realized he had no sensation below the chest, which terrified him to the core.

"Focus on healing and don't overthink it. You should recover!" Luo Qiang gently reassured him, then nodded to the two porters.

The two lifted the plank and took Wei Yu back to the room.

Watching Wei Yu being carried away in distress, Zhao Ya couldn't help but feel a bit emotional.

Just moments ago, Wei Yu had swaggered in on his own, full of spirit, only to now be carried away.

Unlike others, Zhao Ya keenly noticed Luo Qiang's trace of worry after examining Wei Yu's injuries.

Even though Zhao Ya was far away at the time, he had seen everything clearly.

That burly man from Iron Forging Manor had struck Wei Yu's chest and abdomen with a knee blow.

The force had sent Wei Yu flying, crashing into a wall, causing a severe secondary injury.

While others might not understand, Zhao Ya, with his knowledge from modern medicine, knew well how severe this type of injury could be.

If not treated carefully, it might damage the spinal cord, leading to paralysis of the lower limbs.

Indeed, Wei Yu's symptoms confirmed Zhao Ya's suspicions.

His body below the chest had completely lost sensation, which wouldn't simply heal after a few days of rest.

A minor recovery might mean permanent paralysis.

Through this event, Zhao Ya gained a more direct understanding of the turmoil and dangers of the Jianghu world.

After Wei Yu was carried away, Luo Qiang's expression grew serious.

"This place is not safe for staying, so we must hurry on our way."

"Now that Wei Yu is seriously injured, he obviously can't move, so we need two people to stay here to take care of him. When we finish our escort and return, we'll bring him back together. Who's willing to stay?"

No one spoke.

Those who were usually close to Wei Yu remained silent.

No one was foolish; they all could see how serious Wei Yu's injuries were.

With such severe injuries, it's uncertain if Wei Yu could even stand again, let alone practice martial arts.

Truth be told, Wei Yu's path in the Martial Dao might be cut off completely.

Given this, those who were once his friends naturally reassessed their own situations.

Without any more use, who would willingly stay to serve a paralyzed person?

Seeing the silence from everyone, Luo Qiang was not surprised and decided to call out names.

"Luo Feng, you stay to take care of Wei Yu."

"Yes!" Luo Feng replied with a bitter expression.

Even though he didn't want to take on this task, he didn't dare to disobey his uncle Luo Qiang, so he reluctantly agreed.

Just then, Zhao Ya suddenly said, "How about I stay as well."

Hearing this, even Luo Qiang was a bit surprised.

After all, Zhao Ya's relationship with Wei Yu wasn't particularly close.

"Zhao!" Luo Feng exclaimed excitedly.

He believed Zhao Ya was staying entirely for his sake, feeling deeply grateful.

Zhao Ya gave him a slight smile, then said to Luo Qiang, "Uncle Luo, I think leaving Luo Feng alone is a bit lonely. Two people can look out for each other."

Luo Qiang looked at Zhao Ya approvingly and nodded.

"Alright, then you stay. The rest, gather your things and follow me."

By this time, the snow had stopped, and the escort agency quickly packed their things, leaving the inn, trudging towards their destination.

"Zhao, I really have to thank you. If I had to stay alone to care for Wei Yu, it would be so boring," Luo Feng sincerely thanked him.

Zhao Ya smiled, "There's no need for that kind of talk. Let's go check on Wei Yu's condition."

Upon returning to the room, they found Wei Yu lying in bed, staring blankly at the ceiling, not even looking over when he heard footsteps.

"Wei Yu, are you hungry? Should I ask the kitchen to make you something to eat?" Zhao Ya asked softly from beside the bed.

Although it had only been half a day, Wei Yu's eyes were sunken, his face sallow, showing none of his previous vigor.

Hearing Zhao Ya's question, Wei Yu lightly shook his head, "I don't want to eat anything."

"Maybe you should eat something. How else will your injuries heal?" Luo Feng chimed in.

But this remark seemed to hit a nerve, and tears instantly streamed down Wei Yu's face.

"Will my injuries even heal?"

Zhao Ya and Luo Feng fell silent. Zhao Ya finally offered some comfort, "Don't worry, you'll definitely get better!"

"Ha, there's no need to comfort me. I have no feeling in my lower body now; it won't get better. It's all my fault for being seduced by that enchantress..." Wei Yu said, weeping bitterly.

Zhao Ya and Luo Feng could only offer kind words of comfort.

The entire day passed this way, and by evening, Wei Yu reluctantly drank some noodle soup and drifted into a restless sleep.

After exchanging a few words, Zhao Ya and Luo Feng also fell asleep, fully dressed.

Soon, the room was filled with the sound of snoring.

Time passed.

Suddenly, Zhao Ya sat up and quietly got out of bed.
