Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: Father and Son Turned Enemies

When Qin Yong and others went to catch the suspect, Lu Chuan was already asleep on the lab sofa.

After staying up all night, Lu Chuan was also feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Although it was his first time at a crime scene, and the novelty overcame the dullness of the work, then comparing photos all night and making another trip to the scene wore him out; even an iron man couldn't take it.

When Lu Chuan woke up, it was already late morning.

He uncovered the blanket covering him and walked out of the lab.

In the Crime Scene Investigation office, Yang Sen and Old Bai were chatting over tea.

Seeing Lu Chuan come in, both of them quickly stood up: "Lu, you're awake?"

Yang Sen pulled out a chair for Lu Chuan to sit down, and Bai Wenhai took a thermal box from the desk: "The cafeteria made some soy milk and fried dough sticks this morning. Still warm, have some."

Lu Chuan felt somewhat flattered.

Since joining for half a month, this was the first time Lu Chuan didn't have to mop the floor or tidy up the office, and he didn't have to make tea for his seniors.

"Thanks, Brother Bai," although Bai Wenhai's age was comparable to Lu Chuan's father, in the unit, as long as they were not leaders and older than oneself, men were all called brothers and women sisters: "Is Master at a meeting?"

Yang Sen nodded: "Just left, the case is solved, the team is starting to write the closing report."

"Solved?"

Lu Chuan looked up in confusion: "The culprit was caught?"

"Thanks to you, the DNA information on the cigarette butt narrowed the clues down to Zhang Wen's son."

Bai Wenhai continued the conversation: "That guy cleaned up the scene well, but his psychological quality wasn't good, I heard he confessed on the car ride."

"Haha!" Yang Sen patted Lu Chuan on the shoulder: "This time our crime scene investigation has made quite a name for ourselves, and you're definitely the main contributor!"

Lu Chuan was quite excited inside, after all, this was his first real case.

As for the incident at the wedding site half a month ago where he caught the groom, that was entirely thanks to the Eye of Truth.

But the Eye of Truth isn't effective for all cases, it's most suitable for capturing wanted criminals.

Whenever he had free time, Lu Chuan could patrol the streets, maybe this would help solve another case and bring more rewards.

The look in Yang Sen and Old Bai's eyes towards Lu Chuan was actually envious.

Being a cop, who doesn't want to earn merits and get rewarded?

But such things are like a thief stealing honey, after one try he'd want to do it more often, but his abilities might not allow it.

Yang Sen, back when he was a cop, saw plenty of street workers, some charged fifty, others wouldn't settle for less than eighty.

People vary in beauty, abilities also differ in levels.

Lu Chuan was obviously handsome and capable.

"By the way, why did Zhang Minlu want to kill his father, they are blood-related, right?"

This father-son betrayal plot, Lu Chuan had only seen in novels, it was his first encounter in real life.

"It's for money." Yang Sen lit a cigarette, blew softly, and a smoke ring drifted up, which was Old Yang's specialty: "Zhang Wen had an old house in Second Factory Valley, which went through relocation just last month."

"But Zhang Wen didn't give any of this money to Zhang Minlu; it all went to his current wife's son."

"Was he his biological child?"

Old Bai sneered: "Biological? My foot! The current wife's son was with her ex-husband, no relation to Zhang Wen."

"Zhang Minlu's daughter had leukemia, and Zhang Wen didn't give a single penny to help..."

"Damn!"

Lu Chuan uttered with disdain, biting down the last piece of dough stick: "Seems like that old man didn't die unjustly."

Bam!

While chatting, the office door opened, and it was Captain Qin Yong.

The three immediately stood up to salute.

"Hello, Captain Qin!"

Qin Yong pressed down with both hands, a kind smile on his face: "Everyone has worked hard, on behalf of the team, I extend my regards to the crime scene investigation office."

Even though the office had few people, being the money-pit of the team, they saw Qin Yong quite often.

But non-holiday greetings like this... was a first.

"So this is young Lu, indeed young and promising. How are you feeling, tired?"

Lu Chuan didn't expect Qin Yong to address himself directly, paused a moment: "I'm okay, just took a nap, and mostly recovered."

"Haha," Qin Yong stepped forward and patted Lu Chuan's shoulder: "Take care of your health; only being healthy can you work better. How about this, take a day off, have a good rest."

Watching Qin Yong leave with hands behind, Lu Chuan was a bit perplexed.

Didn't he just get a merit?

Why was he being given time off?

"Master, Captain Qin… what does he mean?"

Liu Guodong let out a breath, patting Lu Chuan's shoulder: "Just rest if you're given time off, isn't a break nice?"

The Criminal Investigation Team had an unwritten rule, granting someone a day off meant rewarding them.

After all, things like salary increases aren't decided by one or two people, awards aren't within the team's discretion either.

Verbal praise was like painting a big picture, a day off was the most tangible reward, and was what everyone liked.

So while the entire team was still busy, Lu Chuan became the most idle person.

"Ding!"

"Advanced task completed: The host discovered clues through crime scene investigation, assisting the task force in solving the case."

"System Reward: Basic Footprint Analysis Skill Card."

"Would the host like to claim the reward?"

"Claim!"

Woosh!

A stream of light shone in Lu Chuan's mind, and knowledge and experience about footprint analysis took root deeply in his brain.

Regarding footprint analysis, Lu Chuan had studied it at Public Security University.

The most important weapons in crime scene investigation are fingerprints, footprints, and DNA samples.

Because these three traces can serve as the only evidence to identify a suspect's identity.

There is no one in the world who has the same fingerprints, DNA information, or the same footprints.

Everyone's footprints are unique.

In crime scene investigation, footprints are also one of the most important pieces of information extracted.

Yesterday morning, Lu Chuan looked down following the sunlight to observe ground traces, actually to determine if there were footprint traces.

However, realistically, the probability of solving cases using footprints remains low, generally used as supporting data to solve cases.

For example, people like Liu Guodong can only roughly estimate a person's height and gender from footprints.

The average step length is about one-seventh of a person's height, and the length-width ratio of footprints can determine gender.

However, with the Basic Footprint Analysis Skill Card Lu Chuan acquired, he can more accurately determine a suspect's height, weight, age, and general body shape through various proportional calculations of the footprints.

Among them, the most complex is calculating age, yes, calculation.

Crime scene footprints rarely have bare footprints; most are shoe prints left behind.

In footprint analysis, by comparing data from footprints at different angles, it is possible to determine the age range of the owner.

Highly skilled footprint analysis experts can identify comparison points on different footprints to derive calculation data.

The Basic Footprint Analysis Lu Chuan obtained can accurately estimate the owner's age within a range of no more than five years up or down.

Originally having left the Criminal Investigation Team, Lu Chuan returned to the office once more.

With nothing else to do, now armed with a new skill, Lu Chuan decided to give it a test!
