Chapter 20 - No. 1230 and No. 1231

The meaning of this eluded him, a puzzle yet unsolved.

Damian filed the observation away as it disappeared against, his mind already shifting to training. Abby was mad at him right now so he went for the training ground alone.

"I can't believe he's like this" Abby muttered under her breath. She was already acting on her curiosity and frustration. Her anger at Damian's earlier response burned, but so did her curiosity.

"Something isn't right" she muttered pacing her private dorm room.

She called the administrative office, quietly requesting Damian's family background.

The records came back, sterile and sparse. Damian Quin had no registered family, the archive stating "Unregistered", this was weird but could also mean deceased. Abby's chest tightened. Suddenly, Damian coldness, his unapproachable nature, made sense.

Perhaps it wasn't malice or arrogance -- perhaps it was survival, a shield forged from tragedy.

He never had a crest, usually those without a crest on their uniform indicate they have no family, probably dead or unknown (like an orphan) so their family status is really unknown. Those with white crest indicate they are from a middle class or lower family.

She was now angry at herself for not being observant and sensitive enough but still she didn't let the matter rest. She still felt the weight of multiple affinities was absurd. She only ever seen and heard of 2 people who had double affinities but she had seen three from Damian.

So definitely there was more to this boy that meet the eyes. Determined she decided to call in a favor from her family, one of the three Noble Dragons.

She took out a communication crystal from one of her drawers.

"Hey uncle Lee" she said talking to someone

"How is my little ice princess" a voice came from the crystal

" I need your help with something"

"Uncle Lee is at your service"

" Can you run a background check on a first year students for me"

"Sure, tell me his name"

" Uhmm, Damian Quin, from first year class - B"

"Alright I'll get to you in a sec"

"....."

"Uncle...."

"Yes little princess "

"Is it possible for someone to have three affinity"

"Huh?.... 3. No, I don't think so. Chances of a personal even having double affinities are 1 in a billion. Three affinity is basically impossible. Why did you ask?"

"Uhm, nothing really. Just a random question "

Her brows furrowed. 'Does he not have three affinity?, I did see him teleport, is that an affinity and what kind of affinity is that. Even if it wasn't, he did use a mirror to stop Clark's attack, couple with his shadows that's 2, if chances of having double affinities is 1 in a billion then he's still not a normal student. There has....'

"I just found some records on him" Her thoughts were interrupted by her uncle's voice "Apparently he registered the academy form from a small village that ...was recently destroyed just last year. From the information I'm seeing, it appears there was no survivors except this Damian"

"What's the name of the village"

"Elowen Reach. I don't think I've ever heard of this village before"

'His village was destroyed, he's family too might have experienced the same faith. That probably why he was cold towards me, I'm so stupid. I really got mad at him over that'

"Should I investigate further?" Uncle Lee asked

Abby shook her head. "No, that's enough for now" yet her curiosity still gnawed at her

"Thank you Uncle Lee" she said as she turned off the communication crystal.

"I'll ask him myself and if he wishes not to say a thing I'll respect that" she said as he tapped the screen of her watch with decisive motion. A message sent, her words simple: Please meet me at the rooftop of the cafeteria at 8.

Damian was in the training ground when the message arrived. Shadows twisted around him, curling like ink on the polished floor as he moved. He had been focusing on his shadow affinity, attempting to be more profecient with them and use them in a more versatile way. He knows later in the future he will be put in dangerous situation especially now a top noble considers him and enemy. He knows that revealing his affinity when things get hard isn't exactly a smart move considering his anomaly.

He stopped mid-motion as the watch on his wrist vibrated, a soft light illuminating the screen. Abby. He blinked, surprised. He didn't even know the watch could be used to communicate.

Please meet me at the rooftop of the cafeteria by 8

His eyes flickered, reading her words. His mind went back to their earlier encounter, he wondered if she did find anything about his past. He also remembered how he had acted earlier towards her and how helpful and friendly she had been inspite being a new ble.

He sighed softly. "She stood by me yesterday and I replied so harshly to her" with that thought he agreed to meet her and considered an apology too.

Meanwhile, in Lord Harry office. Clark was cursing at Damian and going on about how he wanted him dead. Lord Harry was also angry at Damian for the shame he had brought to his name but he wore a grim expression as two figures knelt before him, their faces hidden beneath a mask they wore.

"No.1230 and No. 1231, those are your names correct?"

"Yes sir" one of the kneeling figure spoke

"We are at your service, Lord Harry. What are your commands"

The same night Lord Harry discovered he would have to expell his son he had called in a favor from a particular faction that specializes in what he had planned for Damian.

Harry's gaze hardened. "Tonight, you will capture this student" he said throwing a picture to them "his name is Damian Quin, a first year. Bring him to me without anyone. His life is no longer his own, leave no room for error"

"Understood sir, your will, will be done" they replied in unison, rising slowly before cloaking themselves in shadows as they seemingly vanished.
