Chapter 65

Location: Takeda second home

Takeda's second residence stood as a solitary bastion against the ruined skyline of Tokyo.

Inside, the room smelled faintly of incense and polished wood. Renji sat cross-legged on the floor,

Lily curled in his lap, trembling even as she clutched at his sleeves. The horrors of the gates, the dragons, and Seraphine's overwhelming presence were still vivid in her mind.

Renji stroked her hair slowly, almost meditatively. "Don't worry ok you're safe now," he whispered. "I promise."

Choji sat near the doorway, silent, observing. Even his usually light-hearted demeanor was subdued. "She's… seen too much," he murmured, mostly to himself.

Hiroto leaned lazily against a pillar, one arm behind his head, the other resting on his bandaged torso.

The smirk he usually wore was strained, tempered by fatigue and the memory of what they had faced. "Dragons, generals, gods…" he muttered. "Call them whatever you want. But I don't like what's coming next."

Takeda, standing by the open shoji doors, let the mountain wind brush past him. His eyes were cold, calculating, but heavy with thought.

"If this is truly war," he said, "then hesitation will kill you.

Renji's brows furrowed. I know

But!! "Are we… are we really talking about war?"

Takeda's gaze swept the room, piercing through the lingering quiet. "You've seen Seraphine. You've seen what poured from that gate. She wasn't just a creature. She was a herald. And she spoke of gods."

Hiroto's laugh was bitter. "Gods? Seriously? You think this is divine retribution?"

Quiet!!! Takeda's voice sharpened, slicing through the humor like a blade. After what you've just seen you still don't believe are you that stupid or gullible..

. Hiroto eyes grinned ....as takeda continued speaking " now, I finally understand why Januza returned after a thousand years."

Renji stiffened. His hand paused on Lily's head. "…

I think I do too it because of this war

Takeda stepped fully into the room. The air seemed to constrict around him, suffused with the aura of someone who carried centuries of insight and power.

"For a long , I've asked myself," Takeda continued, "why he would return. Why reincarnate into a human vessel. Why not consume it immediately, as he could? If what the forbidden books said was true why didn't he ?

And now… I understand again thanks to seraphine it means the gods are preparing to wage war again.

And it means he has returned not to dominate, but to protect, to prepare… through you, Renji."

Renji's jaw tightened.

Takeda's cold gaze met his. "Because your will is unbreakable. Anyone else would have shattered under his presence. But not you. At first everytime you used his power at death's door , you always passed out why didn't I think of that ... Even as a hunter a fragment of his power would have erased you but you were able to hold that power without turning to ash you've survived, you've endured…

Hiroto's smirk faltered. "Wait, so the guy who wiped out armies a thousand years ago… wants to protect us and renji is the key, Mr takeda don't you think we should tell the bearu about this they need to know

Takeda's tone was quiet but lethal. "Not protect. Fight.

He fights for humanity because the gods will destroy the world if left unchecked. And now, he's entrusted you to continue that war when the time comes. Only at death's door does he manifest fully." and the bearu?! NO! not yet until renji fully masters januza power if he really adapts and can grow stronger he will eventually challenge the gods

Renji swallowed. His eyes, glowing faintly with residual golden mana, reflected both fear and determination. "…War…" he whispered, almost to himself.

Hiroto's grin returned faintly, but his eyes betrayed unease. "So… we're basically pawns, huh?"

Choji shook his head. "Not pawns more like soldiers , and not just any soldiers. We're the ones who stand before the storm."

Takeda stepped closer to Renji, placing a hand on his shoulder

"A vessel is not just a body renji It is a symbol. A weapon and a shield meaning humanity will need your strength.

Renji's fingers clenched until his knuckles were white. "Then I'll be ready. I'll fight… for them, for Lily, for everyone."

Lily, sensing his resolve, nuzzled closer, giving a small sigh a brief moment of peace in a storm of impending chaos.

Takeda's gaze softened slightly, though the edge remained. "Good. Because this is only the beginning....

The room fell into a contemplative silence.

Outside, Tokyo still burned in memory, though the snow muted the world. Renji thought back to the gates, to Seraphine, to the dragons that had devoured everything in their path.

Hiroto broke the silence. "So what now? We just… train? Sit here and brood over the apocalypse?"

Choji shook his head. "It's more than training. We need strategy. Information. Every gate, every general… we need to know who, what, when.

Otherwise, we'll get slaughtered."

Hiroto sighed." Well that can't be possible because Mr takeda wipped them out in one swoop which he could have done from the very beginning!

Takeda's eyes scanned the horizon. "Correct I underestimated them . But more than that… we need to understand the scale.

If my theory is true then the gods are just testing us. They've returned after a millennium of silence, watching, seeing if humanity is ready. They will not stop until they are satisfied or until we fail."

Renji's heart pounded. "And Januza chose me to carry his will through all this?"

Hiroto leaned back, letting out a long breath. "A thousand years. Damn. I thought I was tired before…"

Renji looked down at Lily, then back at Takeda. "I understand. If this is a war… if the gods are coming… then we need to be ready. All of us. Together."

Takeda nodded " hmmm but humanity will need more than power. We will need coordination, precision, and sacrifices. And you, Renji, are at the center of it.

Renji's eyes glimmered with a mixture of fear and determination. "I understand

Takeda's expression hardened as he recalled the ancient records, the whispers of history, and the legends of Januza. "I always wondered why he allowed his vessel to remain and why he did not consume the body immediately.

The answer is simple preparation. He waits until the final moment, when the vessel is ready to channel his strength without resistance. To enter too early would destroy the human will."

Hiroto's gaze narrowed. "So the guy is basically… strategic as hell?"

Takeda smirked faintly. "More than that. Calculated beyond comprehension if his purpose is to wage war again, and he will do so only when humanity is ready. That is why he chose Renji. That is why he remained patient for a thousand years."

Renji's heart pounded. "A thousand years…

Takeda's voice was cold, unwavering. "Because the time has come. The gods are moving, and the world is on the brink once more. Januza's will must be continued. And you… are that continuation."

Renji took a deep breath, letting Lily's warmth ground him. "Then I accept. I'll

Hiroto smirked, standing and stretching. "Well… I guess I better get used to being second best. Not that I ever really wanted to be first."

Choji shook his head, muttering: "Some humor, even in the apocalypse. Can't break them entirely."

Takeda, finally breaking his stern stance, simply nodded. "Then it begins. You will train. You will plan. You will learn to wield the power entrusted to you. And when the time comes, humanity will have a chance. A sliver of hope. That is all we can ask."

Renji looked out at the cloudy covered mountains, letting the weight of his responsibility settle in. The world had been scarred. Tokyo had been

devastated

Suddenly time seemed to stop

And then a voice broke through the space

Renji Kurogane!!

Renji instantly found himself in a distant void and then the figure slowly appeared from the shadows
