Chapter 69: Permissions and the Hidden Crisis

After obtaining the( "Diary") and reading the entries for a week, the girls' permissions had already been upgraded to Level 2. This provided them with several essential modules, such as the messaging function and the ability to manifest the interface in more convenient, discreet forms.

Most of the girls, despite never needing to use it yet, highly praised the Crisis Warning function. They were now eager to know when they could reach Level 3 and what new powers that would unlock.

For someone like Kaguya Shinomiya, a corporate heiress with vast resources, the warning function was a useful tool to test. But for Yotsuya Miko, who dealt with grotesque spirits on a daily basis, this function was a literal lifeline.

Miko had learned to use the System to disguise her presence, but as the Mysterious Person (Renji) had noted in his entries, many spirits could mimic humans perfectly. They looked ordinary until they confirmed someone was looking at them; only then would they reveal their true, horrific forms and attack.

Because of this, Miko frequently triggered the Crisis Warning. After half a month of testing, she had successfully mapped the System's warnings to the power levels of spirits.

The Hierarchy of Curses

According to the knowledge Miko gathered, Grade 3 and 4 spirits are low-level. Healthy humans with strong life energy can often resist or even disperse them simply by proximity. These spirits usually avoid Exorcists or people with special constitutions, preferring easier targets. Miko received daily warnings for these, but the System didn't deduct points—it deemed her safe as long as she didn't provoke them.

Grade 2 spirits, however, are intermediate. Their mere presence can erode a human's mental state. They follow the "Notice Rule," but they excel at driving humans toward suicide or mental breakdowns through constant psychological pressure. Dealing with these required significant effort even for veteran Exorcists. When Miko encountered these, the System issued continuous alerts and automatically deducted points to provide her with immediate survival solutions.

The higher-level threats were even more terrifying. Miko had only triggered a High-Grade warning once, and she hadn't even seen the entity.

While out with her friend Yurikawa Hana, Hana had been followed by a Grade 2 spirit. Miko tried to lead her to a nearby mountain shrine to seek a blessing. But as she used her phone to navigate toward the "Three Fox Valley Shrine," the System screamed a warning: Do not go to this location. It immediately recommended a different, remote shrine instead.

Miko nearly dropped her phone in terror. When she tried to look up the "Three Fox Valley Shrine" again, the address and all information about it had vanished from her navigation history. It was as if it never existed.

She rushed Hana onto a train and traveled an hour to the small, suburban shrine the System had recommended. Though the place looked deserted, the spirit following Hana fled the moment they crossed the gate, seemingly terrified of the ground itself.

Miko shared this experience in the chat group, warning the others about the "Three Fox Valley Shrine" and praising the effectiveness of the suburban one. This led to a surge of visitors to the small shrine, though its caretaker—a woman who seemed to dislike people—was far from welcoming.

When Kaguya visited with Ai Hayasaka and a team of bodyguards, the caretaker gave Kaguya a simple divination out of respect for her wealth before driving them away. "People covered by other 'Big Shots' shouldn't come to my small shrine," the woman had said.

Whether the "Big Shot" she referred to was the deity behind the System or Renji himself remained a mystery. Regardless, the girls were now certain the woman was a genuine Exorcist. However, because she followed the purest form of Shinto, her powers were mostly tied to her own territory, making her less helpful for their mobile lives.

As for the "Three Fox Valley Shrine," mentioning the name caused even a veteran like Takeda Misae (the teacher who knew the inner world) to show genuine shock. It was a place that had claimed the lives of professionals in the past.

Chapter 132: New System Functions Unlocked

Miko realized that the shrine incident was likely a death trap she would have fallen into in her "original" story. She wasn't curious enough to investigate further; she was happy to let professionals handle it while she focused on accumulating points to control her Yin-Yang Eyes.

Because she had initially feared the System, she was ten days behind the other girls in point accumulation. Even her Ripple Breathing was still in its infancy, barely effective against spirits.

Meanwhile, the chat group was buzzing with a new entry: the story of a doctor reincarnated as the son of the idol Hoshino Ai. The plot was becoming increasingly "abstract." The protagonist, Aqua, had chosen a path of self-destruction to frame a man named Kamiki Hikaru.

Renji's commentary was biting: "Aqua's plan to kill himself is flawless; the police are completely fooled."

Most of the girls fell silent, realizing the "flawless plan" was actually full of holes. Only Ai, who only had an elementary school education, didn't understand the silence. She still viewed the Mysterious Person as her "Number One Fan."

Kaguya and the others worried that if Renji were a man, he could lead Ai into his "camp" with a single finger. Kaguya took it upon herself to protect her "junior," explaining to Ai the forensic flaws in Aqua's plan—how fingerprints and stab angles would easily prove suicide over murder.

As Kaguya closed her interface, a notification popped up. One Month Anniversary Reached. Permission Level 3 Unlocked.

New functions appeared:

Map Function: A 100-meter radius radar allowing her to observe her surroundings in real-time.

Commission Interface: Randomly refreshed tasks that provided massive point rewards.

Kaguya scanned her map and saw an A+ Rank Commission nearby. The requester was listed as Shitamachi Kamubo. The task: Uncover the truth of the Three Fox Valley Shrine.

A crimson warning appeared below it: You do not meet the minimum requirements. Please cherish your life.

Kaguya decisively ignored it. Even with her improved physique and Ripple training, she was at most a Grade 4 combatant in the inner world.

"Extraordinary power is determined by innate talent," she sighed. She thought of the 17-year-old genius who had recently rocked the Jujutsu world—Okkotsu Yuta. He had been promoted to Special Grade instantly because of a powerful spirit, lost his power, and then regained Special Grade status through his own merit in mere months.

In the world of the supernatural, decades of family effort often couldn't compare to a single gifted individual. Kaguya wondered where Renji stood in that hierarchy.

The girls have reached Level 3. Would you like to see Renji's reaction to the System's one-month update, or should we follow Miko as she tests the new Map function?
