The next morning, Felix jolted awake in the garden's rocking chair. His neck ached, and his clothes were damp with dew. He'd barely slept.
He sneezed. Achoo.
His gaze landed on the cake still sitting on the table, untouched. He frowned.
Adrian still hadn't come back.
He stared at his phone, thumb hovering over Adrian's contact.
Just as he was about to hit "call," a knock came from the side gate.
Felix ran to the gate and swung it open. "Adr–"
It wasn't Adrian. Granny Betty's son was outside, cradling a basket of fruits in his arms.
"Hey," the man said, a little breathless. "I was looking for Adrian."
"He's…"
"This is for him. I just wanted to thank him. He took Mom to the hospital yesterday after she fainted."
"I hope Granny Betty is okay."
"She is. Just a low sugar level, Mom forgot to eat breakfast before running around town again."
Felix chuckled. "I'll make sure to invite her in for a meal whenever I see her."
