Chapter 15 - Almost-Friends

June takes a bite from the roast and swallows it down before answering Blake's question.

"Sure, go ahead and sit down."

Upon hearing June's answer, a bright smile appeared on the legacy's face as he sat down beside him.

A moment later, a server walked up to their table and placed Blake's meal down. It seems that he had ordered a Rotclaw stew with garlic bread. June had to admit, the stew did pass the eye test, as it looked extremely appetizing to the eye.

It has a rich, mahogany-hued broth, simmering with the deep, savoury aroma of slow-roasted forest herbs and dark ale. Although June himself hasn't encountered the Rotclaw yet, he has heard it's a kind of Awakened Monster that lives around the outskirts of Bastion, in the mountainous area that surrounds the rivers leading to the Storm Sea.

"Oh, by the way, what have you been up to, June?"

June glances at Blake for a second before looking back at his meal.

"Just fought a couple of nightmare creatures in the woods, that's all. Broke some bones here and there, so I went to this medic centre."

Blake let out a small chuckle again.

"Oh, I see, I see..."

June takes a small sip from his glass of vodka before turning his head towards the legacy direction.

"Also, how did you... Grow out your hair so fast? I remembered it was shorter a few days ago."

"Oh, this? It's from using a memory I received from the House of Night."

June's eyes widen slightly in awe at what Blake just said.

"Eh? There are memories like that, too? Damn, the Legacy Clans really have a lot of unique memory lying around."

Swallowing a piece of Rotclaw down his throat, Blake let out a small laugh.

"Ah, I guess so? I mean, the House of Night is one of the three major Legacy Clans after all."

"Seriously, I'm not sure if I should be jealous or impressed at the variety of unique memories the Legacy Clan have lying around."

Blake then glanced at June with a tint of curiosity in the depths of his eyes.

"Doesn't the government grant their soldiers memories as well?"

June let out a small sigh before replying to the Awakened next to him.

"They do, however, compared to a Legacy Clan, the government does not tend to hand them out very easily. It's mainly because the Legacy Clan has more access to memories, due to them being stationed in the Dream Realm, while the Government is in the Waking World."

June then paused for a moment, as he put another piece of the roasted leg into his mouth, before continuing.

"So, in the end, only the people who are really high up in the rankings get the unique and powerful memories. The rest of us grunts have to get them by ourselves through killing Nightmare Creatures."

"Oh? Then did your grandfather, Master Vandal, receive anything from the government? He was a high-ranking member of the military, right?"

Corsair paused for a moment. There was a sudden sense of dejection, crawling on his back, at the mention of his late grandfather.

"Yes, Gramps did receive a few things from the government. Though most of it came from his own valiant efforts, through slaying countless Nightmare Creatures over the years."

Blake took a sip from his can of soda before asking June again in a curious tone.

"Did he give you a memory or two as presents?"

June let out a slight sigh as the image of [Sleeping Malice] appeared in his mind.

"Yes, he did, but only one, though, and it was just a straightforward combat memory as well."

A giggle came from the pale man's mouth as he dipped his untouched garlic bread, soaking it in the steaming hot stew.

"Oh, I have a quick question to ask, if you don't mind of course."

June paused for a second as he placed down his glass of Vodka Martini.

"What are you doing here, in Bastion specifically, and getting injured too? I thought you would head back to the Citadel of the House of Night immediately, after returning from the Waking World."

With a carefree demeanour, Blake placed the garlic bread down and started to laugh. Though... It he wasn't laughing because of something funny, June could tell that there seemed to be something else, hidden beneath his laughter.

"Oh, that? There's nothing much really, I just like to travel all over the place. I just happened to run into a couple of... unfriendly people, and got injured in a fight, that's all."

The navy-blue haired legacy continued to giggle before slapping June's shoulder.

"You know how some people are... Extremely mean for no reason, that's what!"

After a second, Blake finally stops giggling and gazes outside of the window. A frown could be seen on his sharp face.

"But, yeah... I've been travelling all over the Dream Realms a lot lately. Though I'm planning to return back to Night Garden in a few days or so from now."

With that, Blake picked up his bowl, now nearly empty, and drank the rest of the broth. Letting out a breath of satisfaction, he turned his head over to June's direction, with a bright smile on his face.

"Well then, I'll be taking my leave now, since I have a few things to do. See you someday, June!"

With a wave, the legacy stood up from his seat and walked over to the exit. June gave a silent wave in return, his teeth still grinding the chimera's leg in his mouth.

'Huh? Since when did we suddenly become friends? Oh well, I guess it would be beneficial to have some kind of connection with someone from the three great Legacy Clans.'

June thought to himself, before washing down the last piece of roasted meat, down his throat.

Looking up, he let out a deep breath and stood up from his chair as well. There was still much to think about, but there's also a lot to do as well.

Letting out a yawn while covering his mouth, he begins to walk over to the direction of the building entrance.

Why did Worf's body break down, mid-way during the fight? What was with his unnatural strength?

And why are the Pandavar clan now monitoring the smuggling of 'Shard Dust?'

There was a lot of questions in his mind since last night battle against the Pandavar executive. Although June himself has heard about the drug before and what it does, he never really understands the specifics behind it.

Though if there's anyone who would know about it better than he does, it would be his grandfather.

Stepping outside the door, he took a deep breath and took in the humid air of Bastion, before looking up at the sky.

'Ah, I suppose it's time to head back to NQSC.'
