After days of preparation, the outcome finally came to a head in today's first competition. Early in the morning, Leylin left the Mage Tower with Frank, having previously instructed Frank not to speak publicly.
Now was not the time to reveal the success of his mentor's intelligent construct research.
As Leylin left the Mage Tower, his mentor shared his experience from previous competitions.
After Leylin fully memorized them, his mentor let him go with confidence. Grand Magister Belo'vir believed his student could handle this competition perfectly, requiring no further guidance from him.
Thus, Leylin attended the conference bearing the high hopes of the two great magisters.
Leylin, usually calm and composed, was now a little nervous. He shrugged his shoulders, took a deep breath, and muttered, "I can't embarrass my two mentors."
Compared to Leylin 's state, Frank seemed excited. His eyes flickered rapidly. This was the first time he had accompanied his creator for such an extended period.
Frank wasn't a talkative person, so he followed Leylin 's silence.
Less than half an hour later, Leylin arrived at the Construct Competition's venue, Falconwing Square in western part of Silvermoon City. (Located in the Ruins of Silvermoon City in the game map.)
Several magisters and their constructs were already waiting in the square. Leylin weaved through several elven magisters to find his competition venue.
Falconwing Square was spacious enough, with twenty available competition areas, allowing for twenty teams to compete simultaneously. Leylin's event number was later in the schedule, so he and Frank had found a place to rest beforehand.
Based on the competition experience his teacher had provided him, Leylin hadn't fully utilized the new magic runes his teacher had pre-installed for Frank. Although Frank possessed intelligence and the power to activate spells unmatched by other constructs, Leylin didn't want to expose all of Frank's abilities right away.
Showing off too much would surely draw too much attention, and Leylin needed to prepare if he wanted to win. Simply showing off his strength and acting like a fool wasn't his style.
Therefore, Leylin had pre-made several new magic runes. These limited Frank's movements, preventing him from fully utilizing his magical attack and speed advantages.
According to Leylin, he simply wanted Frank to appear slightly stronger than the average arcane construct. After replacing Frank's runes, Leylin waited for the competition to begin.
Frank sensed the changes within his body and looked unhappy. His purple eyes flickered slowly, as if to ask, "Why are you making me weaker?"
Due to an agreement, Frank remained silent, as he wanted to come play with Leylin again tomorrow. Even though he really wanted to ask why put sudden limitations.
Leylin stood outside the competition venue, watching the match, when he stumbled upon two familiar figures: the spell breaker Elna and Julia.
"Julia, Elna, hello" Leylin waved to the two beautiful female elves.
Frank followed Leylin's voice and saw his eyes, which had been flickering slowly, brighten. The flickering movement, like a revolving lantern, fully confirmed Frank's identity as a male creature.
Elna spotted Leylin and tilted her head to look at Julia. The two elves exchanged glances.
"Long time no see, Leylin." Julia hadn't seen Leylin for over a month, and she was delighted to see him again. Elna followed Julia over without saying a word.
Her and Julia's presence today proved what Leylin had said the other day: indeed, they were good friends, close confidants.
"Indeed, it's been a long time since we last met. Are you here for the Construct Competition as well?" Leylin asked.
Julia took Elna's hand and said, "Don't tease me. I'm not as impressive as you. I'm here as a spectator. Elna is the one of the security officers here, and I'm here to accompany her on her duties. You know, maintaining law and order is much more boring than watching a competition." Julia said with a smile.
That was true, and Leylin could understand it. Repeating the same thing for so long, with no one talking, was indeed boring. He had been living this way of life within the mage tower.
"Elna, are you that unhappy to see me?" Leylin said, looking at the silent spell breaker.
Elna shook her head. "You know why? Seeing you with Julia today always feels awkward." Thinking back to that day, Elna still felt a little embarrassed. After all, she had lied to Leylin, and to a very shrewd magister at that.
"Don't worry about it. Come and see my arcane construct. His name is Frank, and he's a fine fellow." Leylin introduced him to the two elven mages.
Elna was very interested in arcane constructs. After all, she had come across many of them in Silvermoon City. Like spell breakers, these arcane constructs also performed law and order in Silvermoon City.
Elna stroked Frank's body and exclaimed in amazement, "This construct looks very different. It looks more impressive than any arcane construct I've ever seen."
This compliment completely sank into Frank's mind. His eyes gleamed with a cocky glint, and he even shook his shoulders. He looked like a reserved and coquettish fellow.
After a brief conversation, the Construct competition officially began, and Leylin bid farewell to the two female elven mages. Leylin had more important matters to attend to.
Retrieving a small, bound notebook from his magical bag, Leylin, with a pencil, observing the other arcane constructs and analyzing the actual data of the constructs battling on the field.
The clashing of steel was piercing, but Leylin remained unfazed. His gaze was intensely focused, even more so than that of the other contestants.
The quality of the arcane constructs varied greatly, but Leylin had already identified two with considerable strength from the statistical data.
One of these constructs bore the emblem of the Magisters on its chest, while the other was a construct of the Silvermoon Council.
The competition passed quickly, and amidst the cheers and excitement, Leylin diligently searched for an arcane construct that could threaten him and Frank before his turn.
Finally, it was Leylin's turn. Leylin put away his notebook and stood outside the arena. He patted Frank's shoulder, just like his mentor would remind him.
Frank's eyes gleamed with confidence. Unlike Leylin's cautiousness, Frank understood that all the arcane constructs present were garbage!
