Azrael's muscles tensed, every nerve screaming as he anticipated the hare's next landing.
He could feel the subtle pressure of gravity warping around him, ready to respond the instant the hare made a mistake.
The white streak arced high above the icy floor, and for a heartbeat, time seemed to slow. Azrael's eyes narrowed, tracking the motion like a predator locking onto its prey.
"Now," he muttered under his breath, and a flick of his fingers shifted the gravity subtly beneath the hare's path.
The creature landed, but not where it had intended.
The subtle pull of Azrael's control tugged at its trajectory, forcing it to skid slightly, claws scraping across snow.
Frost sprayed into the air.
The hare squeaked half in frustration, half in delight, and leapt again, pivoting sharply.
But Azrael anticipated it this time. His gravity control pulsed outward, forming a subtle net of invisible force that bent its path just enough.
It was still fast, still teasing, but for the first time, it was predictable.
Olivia mirrored his movements, stepping with calculated precision, eyes tracking the hare as she read its next jump. "Left! It's going to land left!"
Azrael mirrored her call, adjusting the pull just in time. The hare landed awkwardly, claws sliding against the ice, and for a fleeting moment, Azrael saw an opening.
He lunged.
The gravity beneath him rippled outward, propelling him faster, his momentum magnified by the subtle force around him.
The hare twisted midair, but Azrael's hand shot forward, fingertips grazing its fur.
But the rabbit was a second faster as it propelled itself into the air the second it felt his hands grazing its fur.
Strangely this time, once in the air, the rabbit didn't start to fall like all the other times.
This time it kicked off once again, but unlike before when it kicked off of the snow, this time its legs pushed the very air itself like it was freezing it for half a second to pivot off of it.
Seeing this, Azreal was dumbfounded.
The very same rabbit he was trying to catch, the one he was trying to eat to satisfy his gawking hunger and craving for real meat, just kicked the air like it was the floor. To ascend even higher in the air.
Did that mean the little fur ball was simply playing with them all this time, because why only now did it see the need to do that if it could all along.
Looking ahead he saw the rabbit stopped running as it turned around to look at them and he could swear he saw it slightly shaking with glee as if it was amused by their pointless attempts to catch it.
"Okey am tried of this that rabbit is dieing now" he said his voice leased with annoyance and irritation
Slowly he began Walking over to Olivia, once there reached for and he picked up his spear that was embedded in the snow.
He aimed it at the annoying little thing that was apparently mocking him and threw it
The spear streaked through the air until it was only a couple inches away from the rabbit then it started to fall
Just like before the annoying little thing tried to jump out of the way all while still laughing at them
But Azrael was already Prepared for it to jump so right as it was ascending into the air he used gravity control to pull the spear up
Lining it up perfectly with the still suspended bunny that was in the air mid jump and with a flick of his finger he shot the deep black spear straight up at it.
But the rabbit in the last second saw the spear coming so not being able to run it kicked off of the air again leaving behind a thin blue crystalline step that deflected the spear as it broke.
Azrael's eyes widened in disbelief as the rabbit used the little ice step to deflect his spear mid air.
Olivia standing next to him giggling couldn't help but ask "wow that thing is as smart as it is annoying… you need any help because it looks like it's giving you quite a bit of trouble Az?"
"No I'll get the little bastard, no matter how fast or smart it is" he said all while quickly twisting his fingers using gravity to control the spear to try again
With a sudden flick, the spear shot forward, cutting a line through the freezing air. Snow erupted beneath it, kicked up by the force of its gravity-manipulated launch, scattering in a chaotic spray. The weapon spun faster, adjusting mid-flight, threading the rabbit's erratic arcs with uncanny precision.
The little white blur darted, but Azrael's spear twisted, danced, and lunged again, slicing through the suspended snow like a storm made of steel.
But even so the rabbit was just as fast if not faster ducking, jumping, leaping and sliding through the snow and the air as if e only thing that held it back was the joy it felt seeing its hunters not being able to catch it
But eventually it made a mistake, all caused by its own foolishness, instead of focusing on its two hunters, it was too busy dodging and weaving the spear, almost like it was playing with it, that it didn't notice when the two hunters disappeared
And lunged from behind.
Grabbing the annoying thing by the neck Azreal looked back at Olivia with a smile on his face and said " see I told you I'd catch the little bastard"
"Yeah I never doubted you for a minute" she replied rolling her eyes
Looking back at the rabbit in his hands as he was getting ready to kill it he saw the rabbits eyes had gone from chilling deep blue to a terrifying crimson red
Before it opened its tiny mouth that was filled with sharp tiny little teeth that looked like they could tear through iron. And let out a high pitched screech
"KREEEEEE!"
Just as Azrael snapped it's neck in his hand
"Well that can't be good right?" He said while slowly turning around to face Olivia but as his eyes scanned over her they were pulled towards the snow behind her where he saw tens no hundreds of crimson red eyes poking out of the snow looking at him
Without wasting a second he threw the rabbit's body into the air as he controlled his spear to Pierce it mid air And follow him.
while he ran grabbed Olivia through her on his back and started running to the previous floor without looking back as he finally heard
"SSSSHHHHHHHREE!!!!"
