Chapter 284 - Chapter 284: Kurtz is Still Alive!

Chapter 284: Kurtz is Still Alive!

She glanced at Flamme's retreating figure, then at Carlo, who was excitedly and carefully protecting the magic books in his arms.

Her intuition told her there was an interesting secret between them.

"Um...Mr. Carlo, right?" Ariel spoke up, stopping Carlo, who was about to leave.

Carlo turned around in confusion, looking at the unfamiliar green-haired female mage in front of him: "I am Carlo. May I ask who you are?"

"My name is Ariel, and I'm a newly arrived Level 2 Mage." Ariel smiled warmly. "I overheard your conversation with Lord Flamme earlier; it seems you two are conducting some fascinating research?"

Carlo immediately grew alert, clutching the book to his chest, and shook his head: "It's nothing, just some personal interests."

It involved Kurtz's discarded drafts, and it was about magic that could extend human lifespan. It was even close to completion, so he dared not reveal it to outsiders.

Ariel was not discouraged. Her sharp gaze swept over the titles of the top few books in Carlo's arms, all of which were about life magic.

A thought struck her, and she tentatively asked, half-jokingly, "Mr. Carlo's research area seems to be related to life magic? Is it the healing aspect of human holy magic? Are you looking to develop new holy magic?"

Carlo pursed his lips, neither admitting nor denying, but Ariel accurately caught the flicker in his eyes.

"It seems not," Ariel smiled, her gaze falling on a somewhat taboo book about how to manipulate the life force within a human body.

A bold idea, one she had seen countless times throughout her long demonic career, came to mind.

She feigned casualness and said in a slightly teasing tone, "Mr. Carlo, you wouldn't happen to be like those magicians in history, researching how to extend human lifespan? Trying to break the lifespan limit of mortals, would you?"

"How did you know—"

Carlo blurted it out almost immediately, but then realized his mistake and quickly covered his mouth, his face showing a look of panic.

However, his reaction completely confirmed Ariel's guess!

Ariel's smile froze instantly.

She had only said it casually, but she was right.

Humanity's pursuit of immortality was truly an age-old desire.

A pang of pity and contempt even rose in her heart, another pathetic fellow who overestimated himself and dared to challenge the laws of life.

Ariel sighed softly. Although demons don't have the so-called emotions that humans have, she was different.

Ariel believed she had a good understanding of many human emotions, and now, seeing yet another pathetic wretch overestimating himself, she felt she should offer some advice.

"Mr. Carlo, if I may be so bold, no human has ever succeeded in this path throughout history. The laws of the world determine the length of life. Forcibly changing it often comes at an unimaginable cost and may even lead to failure in the end."

"I've seen far too many examples of failure." She had intended to advise this naive human mage in the manner of a "senior."

However, Carlo's reaction was completely unexpected.

Carlo, as if insulted, suddenly raised his head, his eyes filled with an unyielding stubbornness: "What do you know! My research is not unfounded; it is a deduction based on Lord Kurtz's draft!"

"Lord Kurtz?" Ariel was taken aback.

"That's right! It's the great god-slayer Lord Kurtz!" Carlo's tone was filled with utmost reverence. "With Lord Kurtz's intelligence and understanding of the nature of magic, he must have explored this field and found a feasible method."

My research follows in the footsteps he left behind.

I believe Lord Kurtz must have invented some kind of magic that extends human lifespan by transferring life force in a specific way.

Carlo's words struck Ariel's mind like a series of thunderbolts: Kurtz had researched immortality magic?!

It's not a simple cure, but rather a transfer of life force to prolong one's own lifespan?!

The color drained from Ariel's face instantly.

All her previous ease and pity vanished at this moment, replaced by a bone-chilling cold and fear. If...if what Carlo said was true, if that Kurtz really possessed some kind of immortality magic, then wouldn't it be possible for him to have lived for thousands of years, existing from the age of mythology to the present?

No wonder! No wonder!

If that was really the case.

Schlacht and Grausam were not killed by Serie but by the god-slayer Kurtz.

Was the reason that fellow Macht went into hiding because of the other party?

Thinking of this, Solitaire clenched her fists inwardly.

That bastard Macht!

He had countless opportunities to tell her that the god-slayer Kurtz was still alive, but he wouldn't tell her anything.

She had even heard about the deaths of Schlacht and Grausam from other demons.

She was wondering how Schlacht, with his precognitive magic, could possibly be killed by Serie.

But if it were Kurtz, it wouldn't be surprising.

Suddenly, she remembered the man with black hair and black eyes, who looked ordinary but was unfathomable, and whose name was the same as the Godslayer.

Could it be that...?

That guy was him?!

Was he the one who once slew gods, stood shoulder to shoulder with the elven saint Serie, and was sung about in countless legends?!

How could she have been wandering around right under his nose? And now she had even gone to his headquarters to participate in a magic exam? And she was even studying the magic he created?

"No..! Impossible...how could it be!!!" Solitaire's voice trembled uncontrollably, her legs went weak, and she almost couldn't stand up.

The thought of facing that terrifying being sent chills down her spine.

From the moment she was born until now, she had always carried the disguise magic on her body and been extremely careful at all times, but she never expected that she would actually meet the legendary godslayer who had killed countless demons and monsters!

Solitaire suddenly regretted taking the magic exam and joining the magic association.

This way, she would leave a record. If the god-slayer saw this record and remembered that he had only met her once...

My brain is shaking!!!

'It's all over, it's all over, it's all over!' Solitaire screamed inwardly, no longer caring about magical research or human knowledge; she had only one thought: run!

Get away from this horrible place! Stay as far away from that god-slayer as possible!

She could no longer care about Carlo, who was looking at her with a puzzled expression. She turned around abruptly and practically scrambled towards the exit.

That panicked and bewildered figure seemed to be being chased by the most terrifying being.

Carlo was left standing there, staring blankly at the second-level mage who had just been talking so eloquently as she fled as if she had seen a ghost.

"Strange fellow." Carlo pushed up his glasses, muttered under his breath, shook his head, and walked towards his research lab with his magic book in his arms.
