Chapter 503: Kill with One Sword
The moment Mugetsu entered the space inside the paradise box, endless darkness swallowed him whole.
Even so, Mugetsu possessed too many perception abilities. In absolute blackness, he could still sense the shape of the space, and it was far larger than the box's real size. The interior was severely inconsistent with its exterior.
He was not surprised. This was almost certainly the handiwork of the Sage of Six Paths.
That man had created a moon to seal Kaguya. Making a special box was hardly a stretch.
Mugetsu walked forward at a steady pace, carefully feeling out the sealing structure embedded in the space itself. Studying it from the inside felt completely different than observing it from the outside.
Then a slightly hoarse voice echoed from all directions.
"Human, do you desire endless life and infinite power? As long as you offer enough chakra, I can fulfill all your desires."
"Fulfill all desires?" Mugetsu asked calmly. "Can you help me revive the Sage of Six Paths?"
For a moment, Mugetsu felt the darkness around him faintly tint red, as if the space itself had reacted.
After a while, the hoarse voice spoke again.
"Of course. As long as there is enough chakra, any wish can be granted."
"Alright." Mugetsu nodded, still serious. "Then my wish is for me to have the ability to grant wishes."
Silence.
The thing inside the box went quiet again.
It had to admit that after being sealed for so many years, this was the first time it had encountered someone like this.
If it had not already realized it could not forcibly control Mugetsu, it would not have wasted its breath trying to lure him.
"To collect chakra, you must have enough chakra to gain the opportunity to make a wish," it emphasized, as if correcting him. "You can inject the chakra in your body into the box first. You possess a considerable amount of chakra yourself."
"I see," Mugetsu replied.
He raised his hand and threw a Flying Thunder God kunai in a certain direction.
The creature sensed the incoming kunai and was startled. How could Mugetsu pinpoint its location in a space with no light at all? Was it coincidence?
It swung a sharp claw, intending to swat the kunai away.
Whoosh.
In the next instant, Mugetsu activated the Flying Thunder God Technique and appeared right in front of the claw. His fist drove forward in an Exploding Fist, coated in Armament Haki.
Boom!
The claw, harder than steel, shattered under the impact. Intense pain ripped through it, and it sucked in a harsh breath.
Mugetsu's single punch shook its confidence.
Was this really the strength and defense a human should have?
You were the monster.
It forced its internal power to surge, rapidly regenerating, then opened its gaping maw and fired a chakra ray straight at Mugetsu.
Originally, it had planned to trick Mugetsu into wasting chakra first, then strike when he weakened.
Mugetsu did not fall for any of it.
Whoosh.
Mugetsu flashed again, appearing directly in front of it, and slammed another heavy punch into its body, sending it crashing into the ground.
The first time his fist connected, Mugetsu had already left a Flying Thunder God mark on its body.
Now he drew out Enma, fed chakra into the blade, coated it in Armament Haki, switched from Rock Breathing to Thunder Breathing, and moved like lightning.
The moment it struggled to rise, six slashes fell.
Its two legs, two feet, and wings were severed in an instant.
"Who are you?" it demanded, unable to hold back.
It knew anyone who could leave a mark inside the paradise box was not ordinary, but it had not expected Mugetsu to be this overwhelming.
Not merely strong.
Strange.
It could not understand how Mugetsu could see in an environment with no light, because this was supposed to be its advantage.
Even worse, Mugetsu showed no fear at all in this confined darkness, rendering its natural abilities completely useless.
With Space Time ninjutsu on top of that, it was almost defenseless.
Mugetsu did not bother answering. He shook his head, sounding genuinely disappointed.
"I thought this was something the Sage of Six Paths created. But now it seems it isn't. Too weak."
Its true body was far weaker than he had imagined, not even as strong as a tailed beast. Mugetsu had been prepared to leave at any moment, but he was the one dominating every exchange.
The creature stiffened, even as its newly regenerated body twitched.
"If that bastard Hagoromo hadn't sealed me for thousands of years, I could have swallowed a little thing like you in one bite!" it roared, falling into a frenzy as it rushed Mugetsu again.
But every attack was seen through.
Mugetsu's blade flashed, and its limbs were severed again, clean and ruthless.
"You said you were sealed by the Sage of Six Paths," Mugetsu continued calmly, probing while he fought. "What proof do you have? For example, were there other beings like you that were sealed as well?"
It seemed slow, whether from being sealed too long or simply by nature.
"Moryo," it answered proudly, "Hagoromo couldn't kill us. He could only seal us."
Mugetsu swung his blade in a backhanded arc and chopped off its head.
Even headless, the body still twitched and tried to move.
Mugetsu admitted one thing.
Its vitality was indeed absurd.
Unlike Hidan, who needed to manually reattach himself, this thing would automatically regenerate over time.
"Fire Release: Fire Dragon Flame Bullet!"
Mugetsu exhaled a sea of scorching flames, burning part of its body into black ash. He watched closely, testing how it would recover.
After a short time, it simply grew a new body.
"I heard Moryo was sealed by a priestess," Mugetsu said flatly. "That doesn't prove the one who sealed you was the Sage of Six Paths."
Perhaps it had been pushed into a complete rage. It did not answer his logic. It only attacked again and again until it finally realized it could not touch Mugetsu at all.
Then, as if forcing sincerity into its voice, it spoke once more.
"Humans have limits. Even if you are as strong as Hagoromo, you won't live long. If you are willing to break my seal, I can truly grant you eternal life."
It was not lying.
The only wish it could truly fulfill was longevity.
Those it assimilated did not gain its full vitality, but their lifespan would not be short, as long as they were not killed.
"You can go to sleep now and achieve your wish in a dream," Mugetsu replied coldly.
If he truly wanted a longer life, the best method was continuing to develop his golden finger. The second choice was cooperating with Orochimaru.
It would never be this inhuman monster.
After that, it began to give up. Mugetsu also realized that after so many years sealed, its memory was mostly fragmented. There was no valuable information left to extract.
So Mugetsu shifted focus and studied the sealing technique itself.
Even if the seal was not the same as the Yang Seal he was developing, it was still a technique personally performed by the Sage of Six Paths. By comparing principles, he could still refine his own sealing level.
"Paradise box, please help me recover from my injuries…"
At that moment, Yokogawa's anxious voice entered the paradise box from outside.
The creature did not intend to help Yokogawa. It also did not truly have the ability to support him. However, it sensed a shinobi with decent chakra standing near the entrance.
It tried to pull Drag into the box.
Two slashes landed.
Its body was cut into three pieces, and the attempt was interrupted.
It glared at Mugetsu with hatred. Even Hagoromo had never humiliated it like this.
Mugetsu did not even look at it.
This thing was pure waste, nothing but harmful trash. Keeping it in the world served no purpose.
Once Mugetsu felt he had learned enough from the sealing structure, he activated the Flying Thunder God Technique and left the paradise box.
Whoosh.
Swish.
Mugetsu appeared above Yokogawa and swung Enma without hesitation, severing the arm Yokogawa was using to hold Drag.
The sudden pain made Yokogawa instinctively turn his head.
The moment he saw Mugetsu's face, terror flooded his expression.
They had only exchanged two moves before, but Mugetsu's strength had been absolute. If Mugetsu's punch had not injured him earlier, he would never have been dragged into such a desperate fight with Kakashi and the others.
"Box! Why did you let Raging Sun Mugetsu out?" Yokogawa pleaded toward the paradise box. "Quickly confine him inside!"
Inside the box, the creature sneered.
Confine him inside, so he could cut it again?
This puppet truly knew how to dream.
It ignored Yokogawa. This resurrection had already become a failure. With Mugetsu present, Yokogawa could not stir anything.
Mugetsu did not waste words.
He grabbed Yokogawa and threw him straight into the main urban area of the Hidden Grass Village.
The residents saw the terrifying monster and scattered in panic.
Mugetsu tightened his grip on Enma, poured a massive amount of Lightning Release chakra into his body, and unleashed a true No Thought Strike.
Boom!
Crack!
Purple lightning shot into the sky.
In the next moment, a gigantic purple lightning slash swallowed Yokogawa whole.
Under Mugetsu's slash, Yokogawa turned into black ash instantly. The strike did not even lose momentum, carving into the ground and leaving a scorched trench more than thirty meters long.
All around, the villagers stared at Mugetsu like they were staring at a god, mouths hanging open.
Some thought they were dreaming and rubbed their eyes hard.
The scene did not change.
Only then did they accept it was real.
"That's a Konoha headband," someone muttered, voice shaking. As villagers of a ninja village, they knew at least that much.
"Why would a Konoha ninja kill a monster inside the Hidden Grass Village?" others whispered, confused.
On a day that should have been normal, a disgusting monster had appeared.
It had been killed quickly, but not by a shinobi of the Hidden Grass Village.
It had been killed by a Konoha shinobi from the neighboring great land.
"Still need more practice," Kakashi said quietly.
Seeing Mugetsu's No Thought Strike with his own eyes again made Kakashi's desire to train surge.
Compared to Mugetsu's slash, his own was not worthy of being called No Thought Strike. The gap in power was too large.
If he truly mastered it, Yokogawa would not have survived earlier. Yokogawa's defense was not strong. Even Drag's Fire Release could injure him, let alone a real No Thought Strike.
"Damn it, why does Fire Release feel so useless?" Obito stared at Mugetsu, bathed in lightning, envy burning in his chest.
The more he thought about it, the more it stung.
He could not remember seeing a Fire Release technique above B rank. The strongest he had seen was still only B rank.
Even Mugetsu, someone who could do anything, did not seem to have any S rank Fire Release ninjutsu.
Guy had Eight Gates and Golden Skyline.
Kakashi had Lightning Release and the terrifying No Thought Strike.
Obito suddenly felt he and Shisui were at a disadvantage just because of chakra nature.
Fire Release felt useless. No terrifying skills. No overwhelming signature move.
"Should I start learning other nature transformations?" Shisui began thinking seriously.
With his talent, learning Lightning Release chakra nature transformation should not be slow.
"The Raging Sun of this era is already this strong," Drag said inwardly, feeling his scalp go cold. "Then what kind of monsters are the Konoha Sannin, and the Third Hokage…"
Even if a small village was lucky enough to produce someone like Hanzo, the foundation of the Five Great Ninja Villages could crush ordinary villages with sheer depth.
The gap was too large.
"In overall strength, Captain Mugetsu is probably even above Minato," Suzaku concluded after comparing the two.
He had performed missions with Minato and understood his power. Minato slaughtered ordinary shinobi like cutting grass, but he could not unleash a slash like Mugetsu's, nor did he have ninjutsu that could reach similar destructive output.
Compared to Mugetsu, Minato was too specialized.
"If the Second Hokage knew there was such an outstanding junior in later generations, he would probably be very pleased," Kosuke thought as he watched Mugetsu's Flying Thunder God movement and sword strikes.
Kosuke had seen many geniuses across his career.
Compared to Mugetsu, they all looked dim.
He had seen shinobi stronger than Mugetsu.
But he had never seen anyone stronger than Mugetsu at Mugetsu's age.
After Mugetsu killed Yokogawa, the paradise box changed.
The wide open mouth of its mask rapidly closed. The box sealed itself again, returning to silence.
Sensing the change, Mugetsu flashed and appeared in front of the paradise box.
"So it isolates space when not activated?" Mugetsu frowned slightly.
At this moment, he could not use Flying Thunder God to enter the interior as freely as before.
However, this was different from Naruto's case.
Mugetsu could still sense the Flying Thunder God mark he had left inside the paradise box. With some effort, he felt he might be able to force his way in again.
Of course, he had no reason to waste time on it.
That thing was worthless, and he had already examined the sealing technique inside.
"This thing is too dangerous. It must remain sealed," Mugetsu decided.
He raised his hand and casually added an extra layer of Sealing over the surface of the paradise box.
In his hands, the creature inside felt like a weakling, but that did not mean its true body was harmless. It only seemed weak because Mugetsu happened to counter it perfectly.
If its true body were ever released, its strange abilities could easily cause chaos across several lands.
The Sage of Six Paths' seal primarily acted within the box.
Mugetsu's Sealing isolated its power, so even if someone tried to sacrifice to it again, it would not be able to receive chakra. Without chakra, it could not begin assimilation.
After dealing with the paradise box, Mugetsu turned his attention to the remaining matters involving the Hidden Grass Village and Iwagakure.
