The moment Rowan hit the ground, the world blurred into a haze of pain.
The impact had driven the air from his lungs, and for a few seconds, he could only gasp, blinking through the haze as the monstrous shape of Arytemis stood above him.
Her eyes blazed with fury, and her massive glass foot came down like a guillotine.
Rowan twisted instinctively, rolling aside just as the foot crashed into the spot where he had lain. The ground fractured beneath the blow, sending shards of stone and glass flying outwards.
He staggered to his feet, clutching his ribs, and quickly retreated backwards, panting.
"Wade!" he yelled hoarsely.
Wade didn't respond immediately, but he was already moving.
Arytemis spread her glass wings, and began to beat them with incredible force. A whirlwind swept across the chamber as she started to ascend.
"Not happening!" Wade shouted.
He thrust his hand forward.
