Chapter 71 - Little Spider, a Hero in the Making

"We meet again, Peter Parker."

Anton waved to the Spider-Man on the side of the road. "Get in the car. I need to talk to you."

"Uh!"

Peter hesitated for a moment, then got into the passenger seat.

Whoosh!

The car started and merged into traffic.

For some reason, Peter felt inexplicably nervous after sitting in the passenger seat.

This feeling wasn't unfamiliar; he'd felt the same way when he'd met Batman.

A glance at Batman made him feel as if he'd been seen through, his arms prickling with goosebumps.

He recalled Anton sitting in the driver's seat earlier, rolling down the window and inviting him into the car, the look in his eyes and the smile on his lips...

Peter's mind sparked, and his eyes suddenly widened as he understood something.

He turned abruptly, staring at Anton's profile, and the more he looked, the more certain he became of his inner guess.

Neither of them spoke, and they remained silent the whole way.

Soon.

Anton parked the car about two hundred meters from Peter's neighborhood.

He deliberately kept a distance, so that Peter's elders, Uncle Ben or Aunt May, wouldn't see him getting out of the sports car... avoiding any unnecessary misunderstandings.

"Peter, do you know why I came to see you today?"

Finally, Anton broke the silence, tilting his head to look at Peter.

"Mr. Jameson, I assume it's not about Spider-Man photos, is it?"

Peter scratched his head, extremely nervous and somewhat at a loss.

"Just call me Anton." Anton chuckled. "Speaking of which, you're already quite famous at our newspaper, lucky kid."

Peter was curious. "What do you mean?"

"Spider-Man only lets you take his pictures!"

Anton's casual answer instantly sent a chill down Peter's spine; the man beside him had seen through his identity.

"I'm here today representing Batman."

Seeing Peter tense up instantly, Anton said softly, "Peter, you don't need to be nervous. I think this isn't a bad thing for you."

"Batman!"

The simple words of comfort relaxed Peter considerably. He spoke with a hint of excitement, eager to know more, "Does Batman need my help? I'm absolutely at his service!"

"Batman hasn't run into any unsolvable problems, at least not yet."

Anton said, "The reason I'm here is because Batman intends to assemble a team of superheroes, called the Justice League, and they're recruiting members. I think you'd be a good fit. What do you think, Spider-Man?"

"Of course!"

Peter answered resolutely, then paused, suddenly looking at Anton.

Damn, I misspoke!

He looked up and saw Anton's amused expression, and he suddenly deflated.

Peter dejectedly said, "Alright, I'm Spider-Man. You guys really did find out my identity a long time ago."

"Since you're interested in joining the Justice League, the Daily Bugle's doors are always open to you. It can be a temporary base for the Justice League," Anton nodded. "Or, you can also seek help from the Daily Bugle when you need it."

"Understood!"

Peter nodded. Seeing that Anton was about to leave, he hesitated and said, "Can I still sell photos to the Daily Bugle?"

Anton was amused, "Of course you can. The Daily Bugle always welcomes you."

"Thank you! I won't let you down!"

Peter nodded excitedly, then got out of the car and left.

Getting invited by Batman meant he had earned the approval of his idol.

This gave Peter even more enthusiasm for his voluntary work as a superhero.

He stood there waving at Anton until the car disappeared from view at the end of the road.

Even though Anton never revealed his true identity from start to finish, Peter knew in his heart what to think.

After all, Anton and Batman had connections long ago.

Peter wasn't an idiot.

On the contrary, he was among the smartest people in the Marvel world, having become an intern at Osborn Industries in high school, participated in Curt Connors' limb regeneration experiments, and even cracked the Lizard's genetic secrets.

Anton remembered that in a certain comic book version, Peter Parker even founded Parker Industries, with business all over the world, a loser's counterattack against the rich and handsome.

Although in this version, Doctor Octopus replaced Spider-Man's soul, and it was actually Doctor Octopus who founded Parker Industries, this mind still contained a part of Peter Parker. Not to mention that at the last moment, facing Green Goblin Osborn, Doctor Octopus ultimately returned the body to Spider-Man, allowing Peter Parker's soul to return to his own body, and naturally, he got Parker Industries through a stroke of luck.

From this story, one could also see a little bit of Peter Parker's intelligence.

Although the person more worth mentioning seemed to have become Doctor Octopus after his power-up.

Also, fortunately, in this version of the story, Peter Parker and Mary Jane broke up, otherwise…

Thoughts swirled, and Anton drove towards Hell's Kitchen.

Peter was just a young man who had just become a superhero, belonging to the nurturing type. He couldn't be pushed too hard and needed to be allowed to develop his own personality.

In short, Anton had reason to believe that no matter how Peter Parker grew, he wouldn't be disappointed.

Therefore, Anton didn't directly confront Spider-Man, choosing a more subtle and conciliatory approach, similar to Iron Man in the previous life's movie universe, to nurture Spider-Man.

When Spider-Man needed help, he'd naturally think of Batman and the Daily Bugle.

Deepening the connection would come naturally then.

For now, it was just about expressing intent. When the Justice League officially formed, Spider-Man would feel a greater sense of belonging.

However, for the person he was about to meet, none of that effort was necessary, nor was there any need for a lot of talk.

Directness was the best approach with Daredevil.

Daredevil, having grown up through so much, was different from Peter, who, despite his misfortunes, remained innocent and romantic at heart. Daredevil was strong in every way, especially his heart.

Besides, Batman and Daredevil had already collaborated well during the Kingpin incident.

When it came to building a superhero team and the birth of the Justice League, Daredevil would certainly see the benefits.

Speaking of which, Anton remembered that in the Marvel comics, Captain America had repeatedly invited Daredevil to join the Avengers, but Daredevil always refused. Of course, after the Civil War, Daredevil did join the New Avengers, led by Luke Cage.

Therefore, as long as it was someone he knew inviting him, Daredevil wouldn't be able to refuse his friend.

Anyway, in the current Hell's Kitchen, with Kingpin gone and the High Table taking over, Matt Murdock had lost most of his challenges. Joining the Justice League, which was currently being formed, wouldn't make him feel bored.

Boom!

The engine roared as a flashy sports car drove into the chaotic Hell's Kitchen, attracting the attention of many with ill intentions.

Then, Anton got out of the car.

Several people looked at each other and approached.

Three minutes later.

These bruised and battered individuals surrounded the sports car, wearing obsequious smiles as they watched over it for Anton.

Anton, meanwhile, turned into an alley and knocked on Matt's door.
