The rain kept hitting the glass in heavy sheets. The city lights below looked blurred and distant. Kayla stayed quiet for a long time, fingers worrying at the cuff of the hoodie. Her expression was complicated, grateful, conflicted and tired.
Finally she gave a small shrug, eyes still on the rain.
"I don't know… I… I really don't know."
"Just think about it." I smiled, then leaned back on the sunbed. "You're always welcome here."
"Woah, woah, don't lie down." Tessa said. "You're coming with us tonight."
"What?"
"I called Penelope." She explained. "She and I are going to Stingy Ladies. I told her you'd come too."
"We have work tomorrow. It's ten, Tessa. I'm going to sleep in an hour."
"How old are you, five?" She scoffed. "Get up!"
"Ugh…"
"Anything come from the Jack business, by the way?" She asked. "I came here to ask that but fucking forgot with all the drama."
"Nah. Jack couldn't make the online meeting today. Carrie told me it'll happen tomorrow."
