Chapter 89 - The Zola Algorithm

Jasper tried to argue his way out, but the moment Han Yu uttered the name of that algorithm, the slight twitch in his eyes didn't escape Captain America's sharp gaze.

There was no doubt about it—he knew exactly what Han Yu was talking about.

Steve let out a long breath. Things were clear now. Jasper really was a Hydra spy. The strained calm on his face said it all.

"What's going on? I don't get any of this anymore."

Natasha finally couldn't hold it in. To her, Han Yu's behavior had become more and more confusing—first stalling with nonsense, then suddenly fighting, and now asking about something called the Zola Algorithm, which she'd never even heard of.

Han Yu didn't bother answering her yet. He knew that as the conversation went on, she'd naturally piece things together. No need to explain everything twice.

Facing this stubborn man who refused to cooperate, Han Yu didn't waste words. He simply raised his foot and stomped—this time, right on Jasper's arm.

There was a crunch. His arm was literally flattened.

Yes, flattened—in the most literal sense.

And Han Yu didn't stop there. He lifted his foot again and brought it down hard, this time on Jasper's ankle.

A crisp, horrifying sound of bone snapping echoed through the room. The sudden shattering pain was so intense that Jasper couldn't even scream. His mouth opened wide in agony, but not a single sound came out—pain had gone beyond what his body could bear.

"That's enough! If he passes out, we won't get anything out of him!" Captain America stepped forward, stopping Han Yu's next move—Han Yu already had his foot raised again.

"It's fine. I can heal him."

Han Yu brushed Steve aside, then stomped again—once, twice—until all four of Jasper's limbs were crushed into useless pulp.

When he even raised his foot for a fifth target, Steve finally couldn't take it anymore and grabbed him, stopping him by force.

Looking at the bloody mess Jasper had become, Han Yu exhaled slowly. He had never once shown mercy to his enemies. To him, killing quickly was mercy.

Han Yu raised a hand, and a glowing green light enveloped Jasper. In just moments, his shattered limbs knit back together, completely healed.

"Now then," Han Yu said casually, sitting back on the counter and crossing one leg over the other, "ready to talk?"

"I'll talk! I'll tell you everything!"

Jasper was drenched in sweat and blood. Han Yu hadn't bothered changing his clothes after healing him, so he was still covered in gore—looking utterly miserable.

"The Zola Algorithm… it's a program. It selects targets for the Insight Project—people who might threaten Hydra. It identifies them… and eliminates them."

By now, Jasper was utterly terrified of Han Yu. The man's decisiveness in killing—and his ability to heal someone after mutilating them—was far more frightening than death itself. Jasper might be Hydra, but he was still just a regular human; he couldn't endure that kind of pain.

"The Insight Project? That's S.H.I.E.L.D.'s current flagship operation! How the hell did it become Hydra's?"

Natasha was the most shocked of all. She hadn't expected Jasper to be a Hydra agent, nor that the Insight helicarriers S.H.I.E.L.D. was building with such effort would end up becoming Hydra's tools of mass murder.

"Well," Han Yu said with a faint smile, "you got what you wanted. Now it's time to give me what I want."

At that, Steve sighed deeply and took out a secure phone. He dialed a number and said solemnly,"Fury, it's me. Han Yu was right—Hydra has infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D."

Both Natasha and Jasper froze. Natasha in disbelief… Jasper in shock that Steve actually knew.

All these years, Natasha thought she knew who she was lying for. Now, it turned out she'd been the one deceived all along.

"Is that… really true?" she asked quietly.

"It's true."

Han Yu answered before Steve could. In the original course of events, Natasha would've gone to retrieve the data from the Lemurian Star, but since Fury and the others had visited Han Yu's convenience store beforehand and learned the truth, Fury never assigned her that mission.

Jasper's expression twisted in disbelief. He'd thought Steve only knew that Hydra still existed somewhere in the world—but not that they had already wormed their way into S.H.I.E.L.D. itself. How could they have found that out?

After the Red Skull's defeat seventy years ago, Hydra had gone underground—so low-key that the world believed them long gone. In truth, they'd burrowed deep inside S.H.I.E.L.D., manipulating it from within.

All these years, their moves had gone unnoticed—because they were S.H.I.E.L.D.'s moves.

The voice on the other end of the phone was silent for a while before replying,"I understand. Thank you, both of you. Tell Han Yu—he'll get what he asked for. From now on, he can access S.H.I.E.L.D.'s internal network using his own name."

Steve hung up and turned to Han Yu. "You heard him. You can log into the S.H.I.E.L.D. intranet anytime, under your own name."

"It was him!"

At that, Jasper turned toward Han Yu, glaring at him with venomous hatred. It was because of him that Steve had found out.

"What are you looking at? Still think I didn't hit you hard enough earlier?"

Jasper seemed to forget who had just mutilated him minutes ago. His hateful glare barely lasted two seconds before a hand filled his vision—and the next instant, he was sent flying into the wall.

Steve didn't intervene this time. He simply stood back and watched. He too had little mercy left for Hydra. On the battlefield, mercy to the enemy was cruelty to yourself and your comrades.

"Do we keep him alive?" Han Yu asked calmly.

"No. Hydra scum—none of them deserve to live," Steve said coldly, all traces of his usual gentleness gone.

As soon as he spoke, a flash of icy light flickered before their eyes. In the next heartbeat, Jasper's body began freezing solid from his feet upward.

"W–Wait—don't—!"

He never finished the plea. In seconds, he was a lifeless ice sculpture.

Han Yu tapped the frozen statue lightly with the back of his blade.

Crack.

The sculpture shattered apart, collapsing into countless icy shards that scattered across the floor—no longer human, just frozen dust.

Steve and Natasha both fell silent, their hearts heavy. A day ago, Jasper had been their colleague. Now, he was their enemy.

"It's done. Let's head back."

Han Yu, however, looked completely calm. To him, Jasper was nothing more than an insignificant ant—someone who could never make even the smallest ripple in his life.

But just as he stepped through the doorway, a mechanical voice suddenly echoed in his mind. His eyes widened in surprise.
