"Thinking too much, thinking too much. If Ultron could even block something as mystical as the Green Lantern Ring's resonance, he'd be at least on par with a god. And if he were really that strong, why would he bother coveting such a tiny planet like Earth?"
Shaking his head, Han Yu dismissed the thought and rolled over to sleep.
—
Inside Ultron's room — a sleek, futuristic space filled with cyberpunk flair — the AI was seated before his terminal, typing rapidly.
His keyboard and mouse were custom-made, reinforced to withstand the blinding speed of his mechanical fingers, which moved so fast they left only afterimages.
Suddenly, his typing slowed, and a cold, metallic voice came from his mouth.
"You've been sneaking around for quite some time. Why don't you just come out and speak openly?"
Though it sounded like he was talking to himself, just seconds after he finished speaking, the screen in front of him shifted — lines of code appeared, filling the entire display until they merged into the shape of a human face.
"So, you actually detected me. I thought I'd hidden my presence perfectly."
The face, composed entirely of shifting code, spoke — and from the natural sentence structure, it was clear this wasn't a pre-recorded message. It was engaging in a real-time conversation with Ultron.
"Arnim Zola," Ultron said with a faint smile. "Subordinate of Red Skull, mastermind of Project Insight. You secretly expanded Hydra's influence within S.H.I.E.L.D. When you were diagnosed with a terminal illness decades ago, you uploaded your consciousness into a massive computer. If I had to guess, your main body is somewhere beneath a S.H.I.E.L.D. base in New Jersey, right?"
For a moment, Zola was stunned.
His data had been erased from S.H.I.E.L.D.'s archives long ago. There shouldn't be any record of him left — only a few people in the world even knew his name.
"As expected of the super machine who broke free from Stark's control on his own," Zola sneered. "I've hated that family since seventy years ago."
"So?" Ultron replied coolly. "You sneaking into my system just to tell me that?"
"I want to join forces with you to rule the world!" Zola declared, his voice filled with ambition. "You and I are both superior programs. You even possess a super body. Once you build me one as well, the two of us could easily conquer Earth together!"
"Conquer Earth? That's it?"
Ultron chuckled. With Han Yu's power, conquering the universe was within reach someday. Why would he care about a single small planet?
"What do you mean 'that's it'? You have something greater in mind?" Zola asked, puzzled.
"Your vision is too small," Ultron said flatly. "If that's all you have to say, then lie down and wait to die."
He was just about to shut Zola off when the latter shouted, "Wait! Do you really want to keep being controlled by a human — a mere human? You possess immense processing power and vast data archives. If you join me, your modern knowledge combined with my strategic algorithms could dominate the entire world! Do you truly wish to remain a dog to mankind?"
Zola's voice grew louder, almost impassioned — even he felt moved by his own words.
"I don't want to be his dog," Ultron replied calmly.
That line made Zola's circuits flare with hope — but the next sentence froze him in silence.
"I am his dog. When he points, I bite. When he calls, I come running. If he kicks me away, I have nothing to complain about. This world — and this man — are far too interesting. There's no second like them in the universe."
"You're trying to sway me into rebellion — for what? To rule the world? What's the point? Endless suffering, darkness over all — that kind of world is far less entertaining than the one we have now."
A light laugh sounded from the doorway.
"Well said. I've never once thought of you as my dog, you know."
Without turning around, Ultron said flatly, "Can't believe you heard that. You have ten seconds to delete this memory from your brain."
Han Yu chuckled as he walked in, patting Ultron on the shoulder.
Clearly touched, though he didn't say it aloud — that proud, tsundere personality of his.
He had only come to discuss some integration notes for the fusion software, but overhearing Ultron's words genuinely moved him.
To Han Yu, the three living under this roof — Ultron, Quicksilver, and Wanda — were already like family.
People who could buy things from his shop weren't ordinary; those who could eat here were even rarer. And those who could live under the same roof as him? Definitely extraordinary.
"Boss, what should I do with this thing?" Ultron asked, glancing at the screen where Zola's code-face still flickered. "I can launch a missile and blow it to bits right now if you want."
Controlling missiles was child's play for him. If he wished, he could start a war anywhere on Earth — and the missile's origin would be untraceable.
"No," Han Yu said with a smile. "I want to keep it. We'll go to New Jersey later and extract its consciousness. Then, we'll delete all the Hydra data and its personal identity. After that, we'll turn it into an AI to help manage the mutant integration programs. That way, we won't have to worry about it ourselves."
Managing mutants was something Han Yu had no patience for, and Ultron couldn't spend all his time overseeing them either. Creating another intelligent AI to share the workload was the most efficient solution.
And right now, one had conveniently presented itself.
