Alderon's POV
By the time I entered the throne room, every seat was already filled.
Silks whispered. Jewelry glinted. Murmurs of nobles layered the air in quiet anticipation. At the head of the vast hall sat my father upon the high throne, regal and unmoving, my mother beside him in all her composed elegance.
Every eye turned as I walked in.
I moved with the grace expected of a crown prince, my steps measured, my expression calm though my thoughts were anything but. I bowed to my parents and took my seat beside my father, the weight of duty settling once more upon my shoulders.
Then the side doors opened.
Maria.
She walked in beside Seraphine, holding little Liam's hand.
For a moment, the world stilled.
I forgot the nobles. Forgot the banners. Forgot the crown on my own head.
She looked… unreal.
