Godfrey lifted his hand and their chants increased.
'If someone told me I'd be here today, I would never have believed it. Being praised by people and being hated by them produce two different feelings. Their hate made me depend on myself, but their love makes me want to depend on them. Like I'm not my own person anymore but carried by thousands. I never would have thought about this, but… being hated was the best thing that ever happened to me.'
Godfrey's eyes flickered.
'Because if these people leave me today, I'll still remain who I am. And that's because I found myself when they all looked at a false picture.'
He retrieved his knights, leaving only Mountain, Solstice, and Tempest. They were knights; forcing them to stand here for a prolonged period of time would be degrading to their duty.
At least Mountain, Solstice, and Tempest could stay as 'guards.'
