Chapter 20 - Rooms Assigned

One by one, everyone received their Amis—all of them, but me, as there was a reason behind this.

Renji followed through the 'ritual,' receiving what many people gagged at…

'The Cursed Bow.'

A bow, as Clad exclaimed, it's a bow that shoots arrows of darkness, or cursed energy, draining vitality, or corrupting the target.

However, with this said, the bow feeds on hatred, anger, and fear. But the longer the user wields it, the more it corrupts their mind and personality.

Emilia, however, received something more angelic, something that was perfectly intertwined with her personality. A white feather.

At first, it seems weak; however, it has the power to use wind and light. It's very lightweight, simple, and soft. Perfect for Emilia.

"Now!" Clad screamed, "As we are now finished with the obtainment of everyone's Amis, we'll assign rooms!"

Everyone began whispering, some hoping they were with certain others, others not hoping.

"Okay," Clad continued, "As you turn to your right," he pointed in the left direction from his perspective, "You'll see three tall buildings, each one with red roofs!"

Oh, I see, so kind of like apartments back on earth, but it is slightly less modern and much lower to the floor, with grey brick around it and a simple red roof at the very top.

"Each one holds seventy-five rooms! The higher you are, the more steps you must walk down towards the center…" Clad paused, "So you can attend what's right behind me, the academy!"

"How will you be assigning us rooms?" Someone screamed in the crowd.

Clad began scratching his hair in awkwardness.

"Okay, so," Clad replied to the Cleaner's question, "Everything is assigned at random. We've already used a wheel of fortune for every name. Everyone will have their own individual room, twenty-five rooms on each floor." He paused, "In total, each one has three floors high. Now, stand here as we call your name and room number. You'll be called one by one."

C finished explaining the details, as one question was brought about amongst the crowd by this woman.

"How do we know which building to go to?!" the Woman beside me yelled towards the main stage.

C grimaced, like he awaited this exact question, "Oh, about that." He paused, "Whom who's wise will know where they must be. That's for me to know, and you to find out is what I basically said. Well, now." He opened his arms wide, "You'll have a timer in your room! When that timer reaches zero, everyone must be at the academy! Until then, enjoy!"

Everyone in the crowd whispered in anger, confusion, and disturbance.

"You're telling me I have to go through three buildings!?"

Someone in the crowd yelled in anger.

"Just tell us the building we are assigned to!"

And so, they each continued, their arguments built off one another.

"Shut up!" Clad yelled, angrily, first time I saw him with that disturbed expression, "Is this the lasting expression you give? I'll give you all a hint…" He paused, taking a deep breath, "Connect yourselves with your Amis."

Everyone went silent in the crowd.

"He's right!" The man who awakened with a Psyche yelled, "Let's all do this! So we can improve!"

I forgot his name. I believe it started with Drace. The first one to be called towards the stage to obtain an Amis. But something seemed off; it was like he was trying to manipulate us into trusting in his words.

That Grimace he's making strikes a nerve in my gut. One that I want to perish.

Everyone listened to him and began waiting to get called up for their room number while tightly clinging to their Amis.

"Everyone!" Someone further in the crowd screamed, "Try closing your eyes and thinking of your personality while clinging onto your Amis! It's working for me, when I opened my eyes, it began pointing towards the building I must attend!"

Everyone began trying it one by one, including Emilia and Renji, but me, as I couldn't expose my Joyburst is the one thing connected to my own core.

"Oh yeah, he's right! It's pointing strangely at the middle building for me!" Someone else in the crowd screamed.

"Yeah! Same here! But it's pointing to the third building on the right for me!" Someone else seconded.

As each and every person attained the knowledge of which building they are in prior to receiving their room number, Clad grinned, calling up the first name. "Lucas Skrat! Come on up!"

And one by one, they began calling every person, including me, even though, from their knowledge of me, I don't have an Amis. With this being said, they gave everyone an access card, to access their room. They proclaimed that one tap on the doorknob is all it'll take to access your room. You can only access your room and nothing else using it. Thus, it's very limited.

Renji and Emilia were split into two separate buildings when we spoke to one another just before they left towards their rooms, but I, on the other hand, I'm in room seventy-five! So many stairs I must walk down now. How tiresome. Anyway, since I don't have an Amis, I guess it's time to search for the building that holds where I live.

A while later…

"Finally!" I screamed, lying on my bed.

Since I'm in this building, that means Emilia and Renji, and I are separated. So, we'll only be able to see one another during the academy. Going to be lonely without them.

My room was empty, simply a bed and a closet beside it, no balcony, only windows. And a clock, that held the timer at 12:39:57.' And it keeps on going down, second by second. Ahh, so I guess this is what Clad meant: once it reaches zero, I should be down at the academy.

However, I wasn't aware that this world has advancements in technology like that; they might just be more advanced than I assumed.

Well, since the sun is now setting, I guess it would be better for me to get my good night's rest.

But the fun is just starting. I can't wait to see what this place has to offer, and to learn more about what's next.

The new people I'll meet, the new wonders I'll see, I hope it will be exciting.

And exciting it will be.

Time for the academy arc… to begin!
