Rest
After stamping the contract the next day,
I called my manager to tell him about the movie role.
[Oh….]
"You don't seem too surprised?"
I thought I should let him know, but his reaction was kind of lukewarm.
I expected him to be more surprised, but it was just so-so.
[No, I mean, I always figured you had the looks to be on TV. What's more surprising is that you know actor Moon Chang-sik.]
"Ah, I just happened to meet him."
[You call that a coincidence? Anyway, I'll make sure to watch the movie when it's out. You don't have too many scenes, right?]
"Right, since it's a minor role, I'll probably only need to show up once or twice."
Personally, I think once will be enough. It's not like I'll be in multiple shots.
Still, should I practice acting at home a bit more? They said I was fine as is, but it's a real movie, not some school play. It feels like good manners to at least learn the basics.
[Good. Honestly, we also need to start finalizing the concert songs for the end of the year and set up rehearsal plans.]
"Ah."
Come to think of it, singing isn't just about learning the dance moves. I'll need proper practice.
And the concert won't just last ten or twenty minutes—it'll go for over an hour at least, so that's a lot of songs to memorize.
[It won't be as many songs as you think. There'll be a few group parts, plus each of you will have at least one solo part in rotation.]
Still, that sounds like quite a lot… but since the manager says it's not too much, I just let it slide.
[The important thing is picking the songs. And remember, Murasaki Tenshi is appearing as a guest. You'll have to decide what song you're performing with them.]
"Oh, me?"
[Well, you should discuss it with them, right? It's better you choose something you're comfortable with rather than us assigning it. Same goes for the group songs—talk it over with the others.]
Hmm… so the two official songs for the Celestial Project are mandatory, and the rest we can pick ourselves?
I'm not confident with this kind of thing. Wouldn't it be easier if the company just chose?
[There's still time, so think carefully.]
"Alright, understood."
[Oh, and don't forget you'll be dancing too, so keep that in mind.]
"Yeah…."
The call ended with me just getting more homework, and I flopped down on the bed.
Why does it feel like I have so much to do?
Feels like just yesterday I had time to spare.
"Ugh, whatever!"
Come to think of it, I've been out and about a lot lately, doing all kinds of things.
And yet, I still have so much left to do… whatever, who cares.
Since I've got nothing scheduled today, I'll just spend the whole day messing around.
No streaming either! That's tomorrow-Miro's problem!
I lay in bed, rolling around while staring at my phone.
Caught up on some novels I'd fallen behind on, snacked a bit, played with Boksil when he barged into my room.
I sprawled around like that for hours, determined to waste the day until I was sick of it.
And I really did get sick of it.
Now what?
I swore I'd dedicate the whole day to rest, but now I feel stuck….
As I lay there thinking, I remembered the art account I'd abandoned.
Come to think of it, some time has passed—maybe I can go back now?
I immediately got up and went into the soundproof booth.
I could've just checked on my phone, but since I was reopening something I'd left behind, I felt like I should use the PC.
Whirrr—
Well, it doesn't take long to boot up anyway.
In about five seconds the computer was on, and when I logged into Bluebird, I was met with an insane pile of notifications.
Opening them felt like opening Pandora's box, and sure enough… total chaos.
People came in to insult me, and others came in to insult those people. A complete mess.
The good thing was that the storm had died down a lot around Chuseok, and now it was barely a flicker.
Time really was the answer, huh? Not even a month later and it's already fading.
Guess the "firepower" wasn't much. Maybe it's safe to upload drawings again?
Once you get a taste of those reactions, you want to keep having them.
Streaming is one thing, but people also enjoy my drawings when I post them, so I was itching to upload again anyway.
So I posted one I'd drawn earlier and closed Bluebird.
I'll check the reactions tomorrow.
After finishing with the account, I went out to the living room.
There, Madam Jang and Boksil—who I'd played with earlier and sent out—were watching TV together. When Madam Jang saw me, she clicked her tongue.
"Just when I thought you were finally going out more, you hole yourself up in your room all day. Go exercise!"
Ugh, nagging. I covered my ears with both hands and sat down on the sofa, and she gave me a look like she couldn't believe me.
"Geez, why did I give birth to a nuisance like you."
"Where are you gonna find such a pretty nuisance, though?"
"You're as shameless as the president himself."
"What."
"Anyway, you're free next week, right?"
"Next week? When?"
"Saturday."
Next Saturday, huh… Dance lessons are on weekdays, and I haven't gotten a set notice yet for the movie shoot, so I guess I'm free.
"Pretty much?"
"Then keep your schedule open."
"What for?"
"Your dad's birthday is Saturday. Let's go out for dinner as a family."
Oh, right—Manager Kim's birthday is around the corner.
Didn't I promise him something last birthday?
Ah, that's right, I said we'd go to Japan.
Japan, huh….
That gave me an idea.
"Then instead of just dinner, let's take a quick trip to Japan."
"Japan? Why?"
"I have stuff to do there anyway, and we should take an overseas trip."
"Hmm, I think your dad would like that."
"Yeah, you two can go on a date while I meet up with an acquaintance."
"Acquaintance? You have a friend in Japan?"
"Yeah."
I do know one person.
They invited me over before, so this would be a good chance to go.
Where did they live again… Osaka? Tokyo?
I'll have to ask again since I don't remember.
"…Is it a guy?"
"Oh, please. Don't even dream."
A boyfriend, huh. Would I ever even get one?
Too bad for Madam Jang and Manager Kim—they might never get to see their cute grandkids.
"Ha, I didn't expect much anyway."
"What's that supposed to mean? Then why'd you even ask?"
"I had to make sure."
With that, Madam Jang gave me a long look before swinging her hand and smacking me on the back.
Smack!
"Argh! Why'd you hit me?"
"Unbelievable! I went through all that trouble to give birth to you healthy, and you just hole up at home!"
"And weren't you the one who told me to come back home?"
"Who told you to quit school?"
"I'm earning money, aren't I?"
"Ugh, forget it!"
She thumped her chest as if her insides were about to burst. But so what?
I'm still only twenty-one. Of course, I doubt I'll change much even after a few years, but still—it means I'm at a young and promising age.
Like… a time when any possibility could still open up.
Even I can't imagine what I'll be like ten years from now.
Will I still be streaming then?
By then I might have millions of subscribers.
Or maybe the VTuber market will have completely collapsed and I'll be unemployed.
Well, that's something only time will tell.
For now, I escaped from Madam Jang, who was on the verge of exploding, and went back to my room.
When I checked my phone, the Celestial Project group chat was buzzing with noise, probably because the manager had passed along all the updates.
Everyone was debating which songs to perform.
Hmm… I need to decide too.
I guess I should at least prepare five candidates?
As for the song with Tenshi, we'll set a separate time to discuss that.
Songs, huh… The first thing that comes to mind is the very first cover I uploaded during my audition days.
It's kind of symbolic, so I think people would like it, but… it might feel a little stale.
Then maybe I should switch things up completely and go with a Korean song? Funny thought, but since all the songs mentioned in the group chat so far are Japanese, steering toward K-pop might not be a bad idea.
The problem is, I don't know much about that side of things.
Roa seems to know, though, so maybe I should ask for a recommendation?
While I was sitting on the bed mulling over song choices, my phone rang.
Who could it be? A Celestial Project member?
Maybe they're calling to ask about my song choice?
But when I checked the screen, the name was someone else entirely.
[Moon Chang-sik]
Why is he calling?
Has the filming schedule already been set? I remember him saying he'd consult properly with the scriptwriter first.
Well, whatever it is, I'll find out if I answer.
"Hello?"
[Ah, this is Moon Chang-sik. Is this Ms. Soo-hyun?]
"Yes, that's me."
[Are you available to talk right now?]
"Yes."
[Well, I needed to pass something along. The director thought it would be better if I explained it directly.]
Hmm… maybe it's because he's an actor, but I can sense the politeness even over the phone.
It must come from having to talk with big shots pretty often.
"What is it? Please, speak comfortably."
[Ah, thank you. Actually, I showed the scriptwriter the video you filmed the other day.]
The video… that must mean the test shoot. Showing that makes me feel a bit embarrassed.
Did I even act well?
Well, even if it wasn't great, hopefully it didn't look awkward.
"I see. So, what did they say?"
[Well, the scriptwriter tweaked the script a little. Would you like to take a look?]
They changed the script?
I mean, that's fair.
They did say when I signed the contract that revisions could happen.
"If you send it over, I'll read it."
[Alright. It's not that long, so please read it right away.]
Not long? That's a relief. With a small sigh, I opened the revised script Moon Chang-sik sent me by text and started reading.
The beginning wasn't much different from the original.
And then… hmm.
Wait, am I reading this right?
I read through the script again.
And then one more time, from start to finish. Only then did I realize I hadn't misunderstood.
So basically…
[Well? The character has more volume now, don't you think it's good…?]
"I'm not doing this!"
[Pardon?]
"I absolutely refuse!"
What the hell is this….
